great dry sound. has mad punch too. I use a Tama Custom Artwood with Puresound wires, the OEM res head and a Remo Emperor X batter. It took a while, but man did I get it sounding just how I like. not too snappy, I like that sweet boomy type sound you can get from tuning low. Moon gels are key! and a piece of paper towel taped beneath the snare wires in one end. Try it if you have problems with snare buzz!

Does anyone who has this snare or has an extreme knowledge of it know if this would be a good heavy rock/metal/prog snare? I have seen the slp bubinga birch and the big black steel and i know they are good for hard rock/metal/prog but ive been drawn yo this one since ive seen it, i think its because its absolutely beautiful! Thanks

What kit line is this? Anyone know? It sounds and looks great

Hi Lucas. This was a Starclassic Bubinga in Satin Aztec Gold Metallic with Smoked Nickel hardware. I just got a new SC Maple in the Flat Burgundy Metallic and it looks amazing. This kit did sound amazing in person as well. Looking at the comments below.... obviously to make a video you have to mic the drums. These drums sound amazing. It's not studio trickery, believe me. I just did a Sabian shoot with a SC Birch/Bubinga kit. I put on the heads, tuned them, we miked them and they sounded amazing within just a few minutes.

Thanks for the feedback Joe! I have been out of the musical loop for some time (birth of twins 4 years ago!), and am getting back into the game now (thank god :)). I haven't updated my gear in a long time, and I've been doing non-stop research on many drum companies. I have decided that Tama will be my next purchase for Drums/hardware for sure! Unbeleivable design/sound. Now, deciding whether or not to go Starclassic Bubinga, Maple, or B/B is my biggest problem - they all sound so amazing from what I have heard so far. I thought I'd made my choice with the B/B, but I noticed that it was tough to find them with a virgin kick, and I'm not sure how I feel about toms mounted on the kick...what is your opinion on the differences between kick mounted toms as opposed to virgin kick? Also, feel free to advise on which way to go wood wise! By the way, great drumming!

Actually Lucas, my new kit has a kick mount. It really is so much more convenient, and unless you need a really ringy, open, jazzy kick sound, it really makes no difference in terms of bottom end, power, and sound. Most drummers muffle their kick somehow, so I've decided the tom mount doesn't matter. And btw with these new Tama tom mounts, all that pierces the shell is 4 little screws, NOT the tom holder pipe. So there's no big hole in the shell either. I'd say if you like the look and vibe of the virgin kick, go with it, but I wouldn't worry about the bass drum sounding worse because of the mount. You are correct that you'll need to go Bubinga or Maple to get the bass drum without the mount. The three lines are great but I have to say the Maple and Bubinga are my faves. Totally a matter of taste. The Bubingas are fat, thick and powerful across the whole EQ spectrum. The Maples are clear, full, and really versatile. Good luck!

Friendly heads up! The kit in this video is not a "Starclassic Bubinga in Satin Aztec Gold Metallic with Smoked Nickel hardware".

beautiful snare but double mic'd and has lots of EQ on it. Hard to get the good feel of what this snare will really sound like.
