Any advice on heel toe? Can't seem to get it on my speed Cobras. Can get to about 260 bpm with single strokes but heel toe just doesn't work well for me.
@wulf-35967 жыл бұрын
I have seen another drummer use what I think you refer to as the heel toe method, basically you use your entire foot on the pedal. I have done it, had a set of double pedals from Pearl, and the drummer I got the video from suggested getting an aftermarket driveshaft that was more durable, and also adjustable so if any sloppiness ended up happening, you could tighten it up. Anyway, the driveshaft sloppiness was one of the things that he said could cause not being able to get up to speed you might otherwise have, and also, the springs on your pedals might need to be adjusted some. I forget if it was supposed to be tighter or looser than normal, but play around and try out both, and see what works for you. Using that technique, I was able to get up to beater speeds so quick it sounded almost like it was being a drone. I never tried timing it with a trigger or anything, so IDK the official beats per minute.
@slayer82737 жыл бұрын
But how can you be fast if using the whole foot? Can you post the link of that video?
@furcoat94587 жыл бұрын
Slayer it's the heel toe. Your whole foot is on the pedal but you're not just using your whole doit
@wulf-35967 жыл бұрын
Slayer I got the video on DVD quite a few years back now, but I can try to explain what I remember of it. Instead of normal operation where you just press down with the toes or ball of your foot to move the pedal, you actually pivot your foot on your ankle joint, and can press down on the pedal(s) with your toes AND (alternatively) your heel. The trick is one, to have a foot pedal that is big enough for you to get your entire foot able to work in this way, and two, getting the tension on the springs adjusted to work with this operation. I think I remember hearing you would want the tension to be a little less than it would normally be. There was a method of practice (done apart from the kit) that could help, which was practicing the foot motion while standing, almost dancing in place, tapping down alternately with the toes and heels on both feet. I guess you could even do this just sitting down, "toe tapping" but with the action not just the toes.

I have two questions. Did you swap out the springs to something heavier? Im looking at picking up this pedal, but I did find that I could possibly use heavier springs. Second, these pedals had a bad rap before, would you say that they are worth it? Btw, sick drumming man! I would hope that one day I could reach your speeds and accuracy!

Ciao!

@shanebaker24979 жыл бұрын
Get the rubber or felt ones. I use the rubber ones on my iron cobra 900 power glides and they sound and play amazing. I work at guitar center and it's known that the projector beaters on the speed cobra are not the best. They are designed to be light and quick while still being as loud as possible, but that's more marketing then innovation. The iron cobra beaters are gonna be a little heavier, louder and a little bouncier. You'll be happy if you make the change
