I've been saying that Digimon could be improved a lot by taking some pages from the Tamagotchi playbook, not just connection but even stuff like the Pix and the Uni too. I got called a clown and had someone track down every post I made to harass me over it. So thank you very much for backing me up on this, I really want Digimon v-pets to stop feeling stuck in the 90's.

The interesting thing is that a lot of the problems you have with evolution on the Connection are solved on modern color Tamas. The Uni, for example, has evos based on the types of food you feed. It's also rechargeable like the color versions of the Digimon vpets. I played the Uni a few months ago after having done only Digimon VPets, and I was actually blown away by the number of features it had. Being able to go online to play games, decorate your room/house, and accessorize the pets was amazing. I really wish Digimon adopted some of the huge advances we've seen in Tamas too.

v3 is the first Bandai tamagotchi that came out in my country (90’s and early 2000s were a rough time here) so that’s when I fell in love with vpets! Of course I had to get the remake. Coincidentally Keitai Akai was also my first Japanese tama when I started collecting more seriously so this mashup is perfect. I hope they release a v4/Entama mashup next.

I highly suggest you to try the Tamagotchi Uni instead of the Smart. It's very good and full of content.

just imported one from amazon US to germany, as we still dont have them here available in germany.. I already received it a few days ago but havent turn it on yet 😅I don't feel ready yet as I still have a Digimon X and Tamagotchi Uni running at the moment.. nice vid btw

YEAH! When I got my anniversary Digimon toy a few years ago, I burned through it and kinda just stopped caring. Even at the time, I was kinda jealous of the Tamagotchi camp because their stuff looked more impressive for the modern times. And that still does seem to be the case THOUGH what I really want to an app on my phone to play with Chao from Sonic Adventure. That's probably my ideal.

I am SO happy the v3 came back. It's what I grew up playing and I had a lot of them. But my first one ever was the zebra print shell v3. I'm gonna wait it out and see if they come out with new shells before I buy. If the old zebra print comes back I will be getting it in a heartbeat 😍 lovely review! So happy you fell in love with the V3 all over again

Thank you for this great review! Honestly, the only reasons why I haven't bought a Connection yet is because my favorite character (Maskutchi) isn't available in those devices, and there isn't a shell pattern/color that has screamed loud enough for me to want to buy one. However, since Bandai did confirm they'll release more shells, I'm willing to wait! I've waited on Digimon devices for half a year, what's a few more months for a new Connection shell? XD

Those are only based on v3 and Keitai, no earlier Connections involved, so they didn’t really see the reason to make any shells based on the original 04 Connections I assume

If you enjoyed the connect(I had one of those too when I was young but never found anyone else xD) then try the Uni, it dose one thing I wish digimon would do. Extra download able content, with the uni they've released extra content that you don't have to buy an extra device to get ahold of(Just buy an unlock code). You can only have one extra content pack actice(like Vitals rosters) but it's a nice addition and removes some of the buyers remorse(I got the base model and wish I had waited for the monster uni, low and behold I can get the monster uni content just by buying its code.)

Agreed!! I usually prefer Digimon, but I've been really into Tamagotchi lately as well! So much fun. Between this and the Uni, there's so many hours of fun to be had.

This is really cool. I have a tamagotchi nano and a standard size as well and i enjoy them very much. I also ordered some if the digimon virtual pets too but know that ive seen these, I'm gonna order one of these too.

Man, Bokomon isn't catching strays, he's catching a whole drive-by shooting! XD Im definitely disappointed that modern Digimon vpets dont have nearly the same degree of interactivity as the Tamagochi pets get. Its such a shame.

I mean, would you say the Connect is worth buying if you already have the Uni? The Uni has all the features the next generation of Digimon should have imo.

I would! I don't have a Uni (yet), but from what I know of it and from what friends have shared with me, they are pretty different in terms of raising experience.

Lol there was 8 mins left to the Amazon sale and this was like the 2nd result when I searched tamagotchi connection 2024 here, I'll always trust humulos, all my modern Digimon pets from premium Bandai wouldn't ever have lived had it not been for your website's existence 😆😆 watched the vid on 1.5x speed and pressed that check out button for the twin pair immediately

I had six Tamagotchis growing up, I had a purple one, that was I believe the six gen, and it was the one with the thing on the top... It was SO cute, I'm 32 now, and I'm not into Tamagotchi any more, I'm more into Digimon, and I have the Vital Bracelet BE, and I STILL NEED TO MOD IT!!! and I also have the Digimon Virtual Pet X as well... The thing died on me, and I don't want to start over to take care of it... But none of the less... Tamagotchi is cute, and I will probably get another one, and I want to get the one where you connect it to your iPad... But Alas, they're expensive, and the App you have to pay for, I mean it's free to download, but there are micro transactions you have to do... But the Tamagotchi connect, that one was the pips... I loved it, and I still want one... But they're hard to come by in my country, and I tried ordering one off of Amazon, but they're limited stock, and I always get the bad end of the stick where they're FUCKING SOLD OUT!!! But anyhow, Humu, I'm glad you're making these videos, and keep at it man!!!

I am glad that the v3 has a sense of randomness for evolution rather than the clear cut you have to just neglect your tamagotchi to get certain evolutions like modern versions. It just bugs me lol

So does the modern rereleased connection connect with the older original ones? Also are they going to release a version 1 or 2? Can the connection connect across different versions? Or do you specifically need two version 3's to do connection?

The rerelease can only connect with other rereleases, it is not compatible with older models. Since they started with the V3, I don't expect to see versions 1 and 2 make an appearance, but who knows.

I wish we could have it in France without having to import it. It makes it 10€ more expensive and I don't want to put more than 30€ in a V-Pet if it isn't color or anything. :(

mannnnn, i feel you so hard on the modern tamas not being as appealing. i just... dont like the modern characters. i like how the vintage characters are just Lil Guys. Maskutchi? Nyorotchi? PEAK creature design. Lovlitchi? .....hard pass. (sorry Lovlitchi fans; she's just the perfect example of what i dislike about modern tama designs 🤘😔)

My opinion is the same! Modern tamagotchi characters look like people in a costume. Too humanoid and generic... The old designs had a lot of personality because they were such strange creatures haha

@@bean-eater28 I agree. I'm a girl, but those "doll"-type ones are my least favourite, lol. The DLC and customisation gives you some options, at least. I would like them to add stuff to do with the pets you can attract to your garden.

Please, please, please review some stuff like the Tama Uni, Pix, and Smart (which there are english patches for). Also Punirunes are new color digital pets from Korea that just got english releases at Target and Walmart.

I actually just recently played through the Uni, not sure I'd be the best person to review it lol. Tamagotchi fans in general seem to really like it but man, I just didn't.

@@humulomon That's fair, the devices offer different play styles as you mentioned. They are too expensive to just randomly try, haha. Will you be getting the Monster Hunter collab Digi pets? Do you think they might be good for someone who wants a color Digi Device?

Strange that you say the screen contrast is better than the originals, because I've seen many people complain that the contrast is horrible compared to the 2004 versions. Maybe there is variation in contrast on an individual basis? The two shells you have (bubbles and clear retro) have exactly the same contrast?

There could be, but yeah both of mine have the same contrast and I have no complaints about either. My original connection is much darker, and the p1/p2 Tamagotchi rereleases have always been much too light. There may also be a variance caused if someone has a low battery, hard to say for sure why someone would be seeing different.

I remember the UK got the V2 digimon. I am just wondering Is it worth buying one of these new V3 tamas if I got the OG V2 and V3 connection? and also thanks for the explanation on what is a mental care mistake and what is physical. I never got that downpat.

I would say it's probably not different enough if you already have an original v3. There are more games and characters, but the overall experience will be pretty close.

The style appeals to me personally more than the Uni, which I don't have any experience with. I know many tamagotchi fans really like the Uni though, so it may be worth trying out, but it's a higher price item of course

I very much prefer the very simple designs that Tamagtochi started with for characters, while modern ones introduce many generally humanoid Tamagotchi with big heads, accessories and a large number of colors. The shells are also often less appealing to me, as while I obviously don't think people need to limit themselves to conventional gender norms, I'm someone who still very much prefers darker colors, particularly blues. Even the blue uni still has a ring of pink going on around it, which is not my preference. Then the last thing is just that the gameplay has evolved in a way that I'm just not sure if I'm into, especially with there being so much focus on getting to one of the Adult stages as quickly as possible, while I prefer a longer raising experience with larger variety on all stages.

@@humulomon Yeah, I get what you mean. Tamagotchi really went hard in the girly aspect when it was originally pretty gender neutral. I really will never understand why both tamagotchi and digimon are so focused now on speeding you through the raising process. It seems really counter intuitive to the whole experience.

I bought one of Tamagotchi On devices after I got into v-pets a few years ago. I hated it because how slow it was. Menus upon menus and just w a i t i n g. I never used it again. This looks a lot snappier.

Frontier’s better in sub, imo. Though, ive never seen the dub, i did follow LostinTranslationmon’s podcast that covered each episode, and the dub just sounded tedious.

The dub is definitely worse, but I gave the sub an honest try as an adult, watched the whole thing, and it just wasn't for me lol. As a kid I probably only watched up to shortly after they get Seraphimon's egg before writing it off.
