Not familiar with this presenter because she seemed to be on duty less than Azidawati was. Her voice is very good, though. She may have actually actively modulated her voice lower for the news, so that it gave her more gravitas, as opposed to presenting programme summaries.

Not really into "World Masterpiece Theater", but Astro Ceria once aired Anne of Green Gables in the early 2010s and it mentioned in the promos that Anne aired in Malaysia for the first time. Daddy Long Legs might have been one of the first World Masterpiece Theater titles to air in Malaysia. Anne may had aired later.

I need to check out "World Masterpiece Theatre". AGG was also made into an anime, if I'm not mistaken. They have similaraties - both have heroines that were orphans, although Judy Abbott (in DLL) was really bothered by her orphan status and tried very hard to conceal it. The anime was actually really good, and the Malay voiceover was very well done. I have the entire series taped, but, as you know with YT, tak boleh post langsung kat sini. Sigh....

Checked the internet for a bit, the World Masterpiece Theater version calls it "My Daddy Long Legs". The "title card" simply said Daddy Long Legs.

The audio in the recording is mono, as always, and the hiss noise here seems obvious. It seems that in this recording, the national anthem is included, unlike the other one.

Yes, and yes. One thing about mono recordings on VCRs was the noise (hiss). Mono recording was achieved by a pathetic narrow band on the videotape, so it was really poor quality. Stereo recordings were higher tech, and the stereo signal was embedded with the video info in the helical magnetic signals on the tape, ie it shared the space that the video signals occupied. This of course enabled greater bandwidth.

@TamanSesame, when this video is compared with 21 August (also on Wednesday, starting at 3:47), the difference is that: 1. Contains national anthem (4:07) and TV2 ident with "Saluran Emas" slogan/tagline (5:29). Does not present in the 21 August one, but the former and latter appeared respectively before and after the RTM ident along with the TV2 ident with the RTM logo (again, the earlier abangcantik channel in 2009 had the TV1 version). The national anthem appeared the same as the late 1995 RTM TV2's end of broadcast (closedown) video, while the TV2 logo with Saluran Emas slogan/tagline appeared as a separate video. 2. (5:43) 5:52 The female presenter for programme summary was Norlela, compared to Azidawati on another video that you uploaded. The colour was the same, as it is with the same day of Wednesday (Rabu). 3. 7:05 - 7:06 The programme summary cuts down to the very first programme shown (Daddy Long Legs), almost 10 minutes later and after Quran reading. As @riskidxer already listed the full programme summary, I will compare the programme broadcast on 24 July and 21 August: 1. Singaporean newspaper The New Paper only show programmes that will be broadcast from 12:00 pm onwards as he said, but TV2 programmes would start only at 3:50 pm compared to other channels which started early, including Premiere 12 (later Central and Okto). It was Olympic season at that time, so on TV1 the Selamat Pagi Malaysia and other programmes broadcast between 6:00 am to 12:00 pm were shelved (other words: "booted out" or "pre-empted). It was sponsored by Peter Stuyvesant, and I consider that tobacco advertisements at that time, even when all media no longer allowed to show cigarette packagings (starting January 1995 and continued until its ban during 2002 - 2003) was one of the most advertised categories on television, along with children's products that included food. Even young persons (children and teenagers) were exposed to endless cigarette advertisements during that time. 2. The programmes broadcast on 4:00 to 6:00 pm, were the same on these two days. 6:00 pm Man of Wisdom was broadcast on 21 August, almost a month before it was "Plain Love", but on 3:13 (later at 6:42) the title is in capital letters except the letter P (!!!) pLAIN LOVE. Before the online era including social media such as Facebook and KZbin, television viewers might notice something like this happen no matter the channel they watched. If you compare with TV3 about the Chinese series broadcast, they broadcast at 7:00 pm against TV2's 6:00 pm, but TV3 would not broadcast the-then Jade Drama slot on Fridays until June 1999. It was in that period that TV3 moved it to the broadcast time used by TV2 in 1996 - 1997. While TV2 would broadcast Chinese serial later at 7:00 pm. Another competition emerged at the time, ntv7 competed with TV3 in TVB dramas broadcast during 1999 - 2004, but TV3 stopped broadcasting the slot (which by then had been renamed Pearl Drama) after the end of The Last Breakthrough on 22 March 2007. In November, TVB drama returned to ntv7 at 6:00 pm and 10:45 pm (later 11:00 pm) but ntv7 had to contend with 8TV, as TV3 started to focus more on Malay content, including foreign programmes that targeted at them. 3. 7:00 pm included Berita Mandarin, as opposed to Mighty Max at that broadcast time on 21 August. But at that time TV2's Chinese news was the only one in Malaysian television, and ntv7 would broke this monopoly in 1999. This format changed started with the previous video (1994 introduction of daytime morning broadcast), previously some that included in this video by the same uploader were in larger versions. What I comment excludes that of TV Pendidikan which was shown on TV2 but considered separate channels (transition from TV Pendidikan to TV2).

On the subject of cigarette ads, I remember that by the 90s, outright ads on TV showing the cigarettes was banned. What those companies like salem, Malboro, etc did was to start advertising products like holidays, clothes, etc, with the cigarette company name clearly displayed. Do you know when even this was banned? Was it in the 2000s, as you have mentioned?

You know, you're right about the Chinese news being exclusively on TV2 until 1999, when NTV7 started broadcasting it. I never realised that till now! By 1999, TV3 was already 15 years old, and they STILL did not have a Chinese news bulletin. That is very surprising, and something I never realised till now. Thanks for bringing this up.

Norlela adalah antara team penyampai intisari yang paling bertuah sebab setelah rtm membubarkan team penyampai intisari pada tahun 1999.... Norlela mendapat tawaran diserap masuk team penyampai berita rtm 👌
