This is why British comedy hits so well. Behind what she's saying is the hint of tragedy (family are dead so she's alone and sad, she's not achieved what she wanted). It's funny how she hates everyone in the home and how brutal she is, but she's so relatable. She's a good person at heart who's had a shit run at life, and we can all relate to that in some way or another be it slightly or entirely.

Completely agree. I’d say it’s a warning in that the quality of a life matters over the quantity. The real tragedy is that there will be many people out there who are either like this or will end up like this. Not really gone anywhere other than a few places, may not have found someone to love etc and are just waiting to die.

Swears like a docker, family bombed out 4 times in the blitz cos they lived near East India Docks, won't hear a word against our forces, she would rather die than let these people come over on their boats.
