This is simpler: 5^x+1 + 5^x = 150 Rewrite 150: 5^x+1 + 5^x = 5³ + 5² Exponential rule: x+1+x = 3+2 2x = 4 x = 2 It's easier to have the same base as the ones with the variable exponents

First he divides left side by 5^x, but multiplies so it stays the same Then he simplifies using rules of exponents 5^x / 5^x is just one, for 5^(x+1) / 5^x, when you dividing exponents with same base you subtract the small number on top. x+1 - x equals just 1. Now we add can easily simplify to 5^x = 25, and see that 25 = 5^2, Therefore x = 2

According to the equation, the LHS( left-hand side) of the equation have both addends, 5^(x+1) and 5^x, and the RHS(right-hand side)of the equation has a constant, 150. In the left-hand side of the equation, 5^(x+1) + 5^x can also be written as 5^x*5 + 5^x. According to the distributive property, we can factor out 5^x from the both the addends and we get 5^x(5+1)=150. We can divide 6 from both the sides of the equation and we get 5^x = 25, therefore, the answer is 2.

Seeing it in the first glance, I tried to decompose 150 into an algebraic combination of powers of 5 and the first thing that came to my mind was: 150 = 125 + 25 = 5^3 + 5^2 ----> x=2

I got the same exact answer, x=2 but weirdly, i used a solution of 6/5^-x = 6/5^-2. Idk if this makes sense but this is whay my brain saw during the process 🤣.
