What if you don't want to? What if your life is better with them at a long distance? I know I could care less at this point in my life to be close to my parents. I prefer to be isolated and alone because no one else understands me except me. My family doesn't understand me and they never have. That's why I have never belonged and there's no point in forcing myself to fit in with a family who doesn't show any love or care for me.

I'm three years late, but man this song moved me. In a month it will have been five years since I found my father when he took his own life. We had a complicated relationship. Still, this is the first time I'm hearing this song and I didn't know how much I needed it. Winter is always kind of a bleak time, especially since that day. Here I am again, thanking Kevin for being the artist that he is and creating such a healing song. We're gonna be okay, guys.

I have a fairly good relationship with my dad, but he still left when I was 2. He's tried hard to stay in my life despite the efforts of my mom. He remarried, had another kid... just a few years ago that stepmom died, and he's been very quiet since. Somehow the lyrics speak to the spirit of my minor daddy issues, and I totally cried like a baby when I listened to this song.

LYRICS: Ever since I was a small boy No one else compared to you, no way I always thought heroes stayed close Whenever troubled times arose I didn't know, ain't always how it goes Every single word you told me I believed without a question, always To save all of us You told us both to trust But now I know you only saved yourself Did you think I'd never know? Never wise-up as I grow? And you could store an ocean in the Holes in any of the explanations that you gave And while you still had time, you had a chance But you decided to take all your sorry's to the grave Did you think I'd never know? Never wise-up as I grow? Did you hope I'd never doubt? Never one day work it out? You were runnin' for cover Doin' like any other Fallen out with a lover You didn't know that I suffered What a thing to discover If there was time to recover One on one with each other Just a boy and a father What I'd give for another Everything that I have I wouldn't need us for long I'd never speak of the time That you left us alone Me and Steve, on our own I wanna tell you about the time Wanna tell you about my life Wanna play you all my songs Learn the words, sing along Wanna tell you about the time I was in Abbey Road Or the time that I had Mick Jagger on the phone I thought of you when he spoke Wanna tell you about that time Wanna tell you about my life Wanna play you all my songs And hear your voice sing along I wanna say it's alright You're just a man after all And I know you had demons I got some of my own I think you passed them along I wanna tell you about the time Wanna tell you about my life Wanna play you all my songs And hear your voice sing along

My dad took his life back in 2008 I was only 14 years old, he bought me my first guitar and taught me the fundamentals, but we never got the chance to actually play when I started writing my own songs and really learning how to play music, he never got a chance to listen to Tame Impala, but I know he would've loved them based on his musical taste. I often thought and wished how we could play songs together again and I could show him the music I listen to now and how it inspired me, and here comes this song. It's funny/amazing how life works and how much music can express and connect human beings together. Music is always my getaway and my therapy, whether I play it or listen to it, I will cherish it always.

The first half feels so flagrantly like anger and catharsis, and all the unexpressed pain. And the second half is almost this abrupt realizing of the need to heal, and forgive, and the rueful longing of a re-do. Just, goddamn Kevin. Ever since I was a small boy No one else compared to you, no way I always thought heroes stayed close Whenever troubled times arose I didn't know, ain't always how it goes Every single word you told me I believed without a question, always To save all of us You told us both to trust But now I know you only saved yourself Did you think I'd never know?

Very sad the comments got deleted. There were some real touching comments about people's own father's and their own regrets and experiences.

Why would anyone delete heartfelt comments? After all we need some positivity and encouragement around us after this horrid year. This comment section would be a great place to share such things
