Leopard greckos do not have to bite to defend themselves instead they have their fat tail as a weapon so your gecko thinks you are food or even thats how he/she expresses love

Every time I went to handle my baby gecko she’d scream so I was worried that I was doing more damage than anything. But once I finally picked her up, she warmed up to me right away and crawled right up to my shoulder! She even lets me pick her up now without so much as a wiggle! Thanks for the video! :)

Under poor circumstances, I received a baby leo as sort of a ‘surprise gift’ (one I was not ready for...) from my nephew a few weeks ago. I have never cared for a reptile before so she is my first. Her name is Sakura and she’s a tremper albino. My nephew got her when she was a few weeks old and only kept her for about a month at most so she’s no older than a couple months old. I’ve had her for about 2-3 weeks now and things are going quite well I think. She eats well and is slowly gaining weight. I didn’t expect to be as excited as I am, but I’ve become quite attached already. I’ve watched so many taming/handling guides and can’t seem to get past the fear of hurting her while trying to tame her. She’s not jumpy when I approach the enclosure or anything like that, but when I go to pick her up or pet her back/tail, she scurries off. Once I do manage to get her onto my hand, she seems to calm down a bit. Am I moving too fast with the taming process? I heard a lot of videos say you should start by placing your hand down in the tank and letting them sort of investigate and eventually they will crawl on. I did this for a few days and she seemed alright but I wasn’t sure if her nervousness was amplified as a result of me not doing that simple bit for enough days or something like that? She’s not quite as flighty as the second little gal you showed in this video, but she’s a little jumpy and she tries to climb the walls and such when she gets extra nervous (which is when I tend to back off and leave her be). Any advice?

Every time I pick him up (I got some additional things for his tank today so I needed him out so I could move stuff) he either throws himself as far as he can, or he runs like crazy. Thanks for this video. It was very helpful. Today was my first day handling my baby, same age, first time owner after lots of research. I certainly spooked hard when I first when in for a scoop and was screamed at. But I took a breather and came back and went for it. I got a few licks, then scooped up just fine and hung out walking my hands for about 5 minutes before I let them go off back under their basking area. We are 2 days with me now, no food eaten yet, but first handle down.

I recently got two baby girl leopard geckos for my birthday and one of them is really shy and is always hiding whenever I am there. I just got my gecko, Echo and was told that he is a terrific eater 😊 I have it set to feed him at dawn and dusk but instead i just fed him as soon as i woke up this morning which was around 8:30 am and he did just fine. I also kept his light on but turned it off at night lol. When i brought him home I also immediately fed him and he did fine too. It was around 2 in the afternoon

Thankfuly my leopard gecko has always been very tame from the beginning. The breeder I got hime from said that he was the calmest one she has every seen. He was my first leopard gecko. I get scared by him so easily. He once spooked and I was 100% more scared than him. I am moving him in to his 50 gallon soon and I am nervous his personality will change. 😅

My baby leopard geckos name is Baxter and he’s a chill little guy and I think I’m just nervous of him feeling me shake so I’ve been trying to get more calm when I cup him up.

My baby geckos name is Hiccup, not sure of the age... my friend said maybe 6 months to a year but its the same size as this one! So I don’t know lol

I just bought my little man 2 days ago. His name is Jodi ! I've been researching and giving him time to adjust. But I think it's time to stay training ! I'm so excited to start bonding with him. I'm stressing trying to make him comfortable and happy.

I am however worried that he's not drinking his water and his tail is pretty small. He eats so that's good, and I know he's still adjusting to his home.

I have just picked up my first ever leopard gecko. Not sure on the gender yet but for now he’s Julian. JuliANNE if he ends up a female!! Haha. I’m so worried to stress him out. We got him on Tuesday (now Thursday). I’ve made a point of putting my hands in his Vivarium, moving some of his substrate, his plants etc and even lifting the hide off - this seemed to encourage him to finally explore his new Vivarium (from one your size into a 3ft one so I’m sure it’s scary for him). But I’m planning on continuing with putting my hands in the tank so he learns my hands are not a threat, and knows the sound of the doors sliding isn’t a bad thing. I might dry and pop him on top of my hand today inside the Vivarium. What do you think? The environment is very calm, not a noisy or stressful house. He also has 3 hides in his Viv too. Should I give it a go scooping him up a couple of times a day in his tank, starting today? He’s quite a big lad for his age the reptile shop said. He was born 3rd August. Shall I go for it and start with the handling in his Viv or is it still a bit soon? Thanks!
