Just found this build video. I also built this kit back in the 70's and a few more since then. I used the price of this kit to judge "deals" with other model kits; it also worked for pricing while stationed in Italy in the 70's. It was 20 Lira or equal to $20 USD for the longest time. Thanks for the memories.

Nice build. I'd echo your comments about researching- I had great difficulty getting my head around the camouflage on a King Tiger- photos from the 1940s are almost all in black and white so aren't that useful, and modern photos are of restored tanks so I didn't want to take them as gospel. Added to that, all the camo schemes seemed to be different, as on early models of the tank it was applied when the tanks reached the troops. In the end I just tried to apply the camo sort of randomly and hopefully not too much like RAF camouflage patterns, which is mostly what I've been painting for the last 50 years! The end result looks ok and as I couldn't find a definitive depiction of it, I don't think anyone can say it's wrong. I hope!

And at the end of the day mate, as long as you are happy with it then it is all good. I'm not big believer in absolutes, who knows what individual crews did to their vehicles based on circumstances, If i was sitting in an autumn forest full of red leaves, i would be looking for red paint pretty damn fast 😆😆😆

One of my favorite kits as a kid. Maybe late 70's early 80's, somewhere in that range. Looks like it's changed a bit from when I had it.
@HalidonDioramas4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I remember buying this at a news agency back in the late 70"s and then going to my grandparents house and starting to build it on their kitchen table with a pair of nail scissors and a nail file 😀 There are a few extras in the box, but it is fundamentally the same overall.
