In this video I take the old Tamiya Calsonic Skyline GT-R off the shelf for a run after I retired it many years ago. Now I miss driving it, so I thought I'd bring it out of retirement for a track run. So I change the electrics to modern electrics and give it a quick test run. Soon I'll take it to an on-road track for a run. Enjoy!
Thanks for watching.

Thanks mate! Tamiya do make some great touring cars, wish I'd have collected more of them from the late 90's early 2000's. Back then I was playing a lot of Gran Turismo on Playstation. Would have been great to have some of the models. 👍

G'day Mick! That's a beautiful looking car mate. Cool to see all the old electronics and the MSC from back in the day. I also use velcro to fix my receivers in my cars, so I can swap them between rigs and save a bit of cash. The Skyline looked like fun sliding on the concrete, hope to see you running it again soon. All the best, mate!

G'day Mark, hope you're doing well mate! Yeah the velco was good for saving $$ when you wanted to run different cars. It's so much easier and cheaper now days with brands like FlySky and their $10 receivers lol. Hoping to get this beast to the track next week, should be fun. Cheers mate! 👍

What a beauty. I like the idea of the foam tires. In the older days we had to brush the rubber tires with some chemical mixtures to get more traction. I think foam is the better solution. Thank for showing these many details Mick👍

Hi there Mick, that is a smart looking Calsonic Skyline, appreciate the vintage, but it would be a shame to shelve it! Looks great out on the concrete drive. It’s a really great looking model indeed. Take care, look forward to the track footage. Best wishes my friend 😉😊😉

G'day John! Thanks mate. I know what you mean but some cars have to end up on the shelf, without bragging I have well over 100 cars now so it's just not possible to drive and maintain them all all the time. Maybe after the track run it might come out again in a few more years. Glad you enjoyed it mate. I'm hoping to get it to the track next week, hopefully it's nice weather. Cheers mate! 👍

Wow nice old rc Mick!!! Beautiful colour blue skid lid too👌. I think I blew a pressure relief valve in my eye balls when you took the body off!, I didn't expect to see the old school MSC, its all in great condition all right... Spotless inside!!👌Had to look twice at the zip tie holding the antenna wire on that's so old it's turned yellow lol, even its box in the background looks in nice shape👍 I remember the old Colt Nitro on road cars you mentioned, from memory they were really light and fast. Can't wait to see it cruising around the track mate. Thanks for sharing your interesting video Mick👍🏆🦘🇦🇺

Thanks mate. Yeah I bought this one brand new back in 2001 and built it. I don't remember ever running it stock so the MSC just stayed in the box until I put it back to standard, which I think was around 2005 - 2008. Yeah it has some yellowing here and there, I call it patina 😂. The Colts were awesome. Mine was only the Colt 10 Mini but was still a beast. Hoping to get some nice footage of this one since I don't plan on driving it again, at least for another 10 or more years anyway. Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it! 👍

@@RCHobbyShed I bet you wish you still had the Colt 10 mini lol. I love seeing the patina like that on RCs, once you replace that cable tie it's gone forever, you put it there 21 years ago!😳. I remember an elderly man and his wife use to travel most of Australia to the hobby shops in their Ford falcon station wagon with the latest rc's and products and he had the Colt electric and nitro's, from memory they were a winner on the track. A great bunch of RC'ers use to meet at the hobby shop car park every Thursday night and prep our cars inside the shop then as soon as the doors closed everyone would use the car park as a race track. Your video brought back great memories Mick, thanks mate👍. In another 10 years you'll reach into the box to do another video and it'll be a sticky blob of plastic 😂Na I shouldn't say that, it's a Tamiya👌. 21 years old and it looks awesome, Nice!. Sorry for the long drawn-out comments mate, I get a bit carried away. Great story and video mate👌🍻

@@outbackrcaustralia4895 Lol I now realize I said "mine WAS a Colt 10 Mini". I should have said IS as I still have it! Although I almost lost it down a drain one time, luckily the body posts stopped it going right in 😂. Haha, when I put it back to standard I might have to leave some clear cable ties out in the sun for a few months to age them.😁 Great story and memories mate! Nothing wrong with a long comment mate, it was great to read the story. Haha yeah, it's only gonna degrade over the years but I'll try to keep it clean. It's one of my favourites. I just wonder if I'll be around to see it's next 21 years lol. Have a great weekend mate! 👍

@@RCHobbyShed You still have it!! 👌Lucky the drain didn't swallow it lol. I might have some Colt spares, if you send me a pic of it without the body I'll see exactly what it's made of and if I've got anything to suit I'll post them to you. Yeh the depleted ozone will most likely age them in a day, Global warming 😳😂 You'll be around mate, only the good die young hehe Thanks mate!, You have a great weekend too mate👍

@@outbackrcaustralia4895 Yeah I still have it, but can't take any pics at the moment because it's packed up in the shed. I think it has everything with it but I need another engine. I put the Force .15 in my Sandmaster MKII. I haven't seen the Force engines around for many years so might have to adapt something else. Lol yeah, those cable ties prolly would go yellow quicker than I thought and given the quality probably isn't what it used to be it might only take 1 hour in the sun 😂. Haha yeah, I reckon I'll be here forever! Cheers mate 👍

Looks pretty nice, the front left axle is a bit bent at 6:13 there might hurt the track times & bearings on that side. If you got any fitting spares I'd swap that out & the tires you can clean with some simple green or equivalent soap + hot water & scrubbing them with a nylon brush or similar too scuff the surface of the tire a bit as you clean them, should help with grip I'd imagine. As for the spur gear it seems the ta04 uses a fairly open standard where spurs from a bunch of manufacturers fits, like trinity,associated,hpi,losi etc. worth bringing along a second car as well maybe that you'd want too try at the track while you are there with a charger for phone,camera & maybe spare battery.
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. Yeah it's had a few hits over the years, so that axle does have a slight bend in it but I'm really not gonna worry too much about it. I'm only taking it out for a bit of fun and to get some video. I have no plans of racing or trying to get great lap times. 👍

Cool, I'll be looking forward to seeing it on the track, we could say the punishment's due, right? I want me a belt driven 4wd at some point, I'm still hoping to find a Durga, but let's see if that ever happens, or maybe an XV-01 or something someday...

Thanks mate. Yeah should look good out there. Haha, I'm not planning it but once never knows! Those Durga's aren't easy to find, but I hear they're a great buggy. The XV-01 is cool, don't know how well they run though as I've not driven mine yet. 😂👍

My dads sister, or I should just say aunt, got one of these back when it was released. My dad was 16 in 01 and I think My aunt was 12-13 ish. My dad still likes rc at like 37 and has taught me all about electronics, painting, soldering, and all you could think of. My older brother got the ta-o4 since my aunt stopped using it and it got bashed super hard in the 2000's. My brother used it a few times but it wasnt worth repair. Nostalgic beat up shelf piece though. We have some old nitros, and buggies and stuff with destroyed bodies sitting on the shelf, but I love looking at them. Left in their last state, cracked and all that. Its a real nostalgic thing. Hard to explain.

That's awesome, great memories! I completely understate it's nostalgic importance of the TA-04 as with the other cars in your collection. It's the same for me with a lot of cars in my collection, they all just bring back so many good memories. Thanks for sharing your story with us mate. 🙂👍
