Hmm, as you said, a good walking trail truck. Or a shelf queen. Still, its always fun trying new stuff to find out what works and what dont. This is all what RC is, Try things out, add new stuff, run the shit out of it, take it back to stock kit form, lol.

I’m so glad to read this, Bob. As this is exactly how I feel. I couldn’t have said it better. This is exactly what it is. Thank you for summing it up so short and good. Best to you mate.

Ouyeah, Unimog! That's gonna be cool! It's always really nice to follow along with your projects, so well documented. Thanks to Mark's comment, I now also realised you put quite a lot of info in the description box, it's a good read!

Thanks my mate! Yeah, if I have something on my mind I always write it down in the description box. If I have nothing on my mind I often put the specifications or similar there. I think Mark is the only one that reads it 😅🙂

Very interesting, Mikael. The new components look to be of excellent quality. I read your description with interest. It just shows how careful we need to be when selecting parts to upgrade our kits. Whether the car will perform better is debatable, but it looks good! As you said, a fun project to do, and that's what this hobby is all about. Looking forward to the new body! Take care, mate. 🙂👍

Thank you, Mark! Glad that at least one read it 😅 Thank you. Yeah, and I doubt I can do anything to the shocks, without buying, since it’s the springs that seem hard. But yes, this is more for the project itself, for fun and for the look, other than performance. Fun is the name of the game 🙂 Take care, my friend.

Hello Mikael. Well at least the shocks look good, but as you said not really the right ones for this little chassis. As for the steering rods hitting the chassis. I don't think I will be in any hurry to get one of those chassis kits I'm afraid. On the plus side, love the Unimog body and can't wait to see what you do with it. Great stuff mate and all the best.

Hi Rob! He he, yeah, my thoughts exactly. At least they look good 😅 I did improve the performance now by mounting them differently but they are still too hard. So runs like a stock Cc-01 still. And yes, steering rods hitting the chassis and limiting travel is definitely not my cup of tea either. Just hope people interesting in this chassis can see this video and decide for themselves. I’m still happy though. But then again, this was send to me for review, so I have no money in it. Unimog finished now. Up tomorrow. Didn’t have time to make up a driver, but still, she won’t be running around naked anymore 😅🙂 All the best, Rob. Thank you for watching and the comment, my friend.

Cool, your CC-01 gets more and more to a real crawler💪. Maybe you need the Yeah Racing conversion kit to prevemt the pivot points on your trailing arms from bending😉
@NordicRC3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, more metal but so doubt it will ever be a crawler. But a nice trail truck for a walk in the forest 🙂 Ahh, the metal lower shock mounts for the rear axle are available as a single upgrade too. Might need new links too though. Thinking GPM Racing. Quite cheap.

I watched this video with interest and had my opinion about what I'd seen. Then I read your conclusions in the description and they are the same as my thoughts. Unfortunately sometimes a design can be difficult to improve, no matter how much you try. Tamiya CC-01 barrel springs 54666 could be better than different shocks. You get two soft, two medium and two hard springs in a set so you can fine tune your chassis. You won't get more articulation, especially at the front because of the design, but you may get a softer ride. Two of my CC-01 chassis came with the metal upgrade rear links and brackets already installed and they perform very well, but I know some people like to leave it stock. They prefer the flexibility of the plastic. I can understand that, because although metal stiffens things up, as you know, it can move the stress points and cause breakages in other places. It all depends how much more money you want to spend on it I guess. This is an intriguing project Mikael. One I will watch, but won't buy. I may get the CC-02 in the future, but the jury is still out on that decision 🙂👍

Hi Derek! Yeah, this is just a fun project. Before assembly I actually thought the direct steering and the possibility of 90 mm shocks would make a great improvement, but so far it still is as stiff and quirky as a stock CC-01 😅 Softer shocks than the ones I used would be better though, but still, the front servo mount doesn’t really work on this kit. And yeah, to keep the looks of the stock CC-01 chassis, I think the Tamiya CC-01 alloy shock upgrade, with an extra hole in the piston and the barrel springs ... maybe even with the rear shock extension, is the best choice. Still a CC-01 but works better than the stock shocks at least. I remember Matteo doing several interesting videos and tests with it. Uhh, yes, I was very close to buying the four link upgrade and metal rear shock mount ... but decided to spend my money and time elsewhere in the end. Just completed a body. Doesn’t really fit but at least I can have fun running it gently now. And yeah, a fun project, now that it was send to me for review, but I think a CC-02 is a much better choice. Still waiting for Tamiya to release it with another body, a Toyota preferably, then I might feel the temptation 🙂 Thanks a lot for the interesting comment my friend. Hope you are well and enjoying the sun. Sun over here at least after a month of rain ☔️ 🙂

Hi Mal. Yeah, front seems good, although travel is limited by the steering links. Faulty design. But it’s all good fun 🙂

They are actually just as hard as the new ones. But yeah, as the chassis and set up is now, I was very disappointed to see that the new shocks didn't provide much more travel.

Hello my friend. I got sick and tired of those rear bendy lower links for the same issues you have in this video. I sumply bought some 4 link mounts on ebay and made my own links. And those 4 link mounts have a whole lot of mounting holes for your dampers so you can fine tune your adjustments. I shall see if I can find the same as I used, think those were from GPM, but not totally sure. Edit: Those were from HSP and has part number CC030M Aluminum Rear Damper Shock Mount
@NordicRC3 жыл бұрын
Hello my friend! Yeah, definitely need some CC-01 rear axle shock mounts for these shocks. I’ve been looking at the GPM Racing items for quite some time now. But pausing a little so I do not end up with a too expensive project (got other projects at the same time right now). Hoped I could run it with just the new shocks and a new body I bought for it, and then save some money for other projects. I bet this one will be turned back to stock some day anyway, after I’ve had some fun with it. But thanks for the recommendations. Still thinking about it 🙂
