Tamiya Clod Buster - The ULTIMATE RC Monster Truck!

This was a fun one to make. Kind of a play on the OG 80's Tamiya promotional video with a modern Clod, modern cameras and of course, a healthy sprinkle of Poor Boys RC flavoring. Hope it tugs on the nostalgic heart-strings and makes your cinnamon toast crunch milk taste even better as you chug it down.

Surrounded by shelves of totally out of reach Tamiya kits, drooling away as the Tamiya promo VHS played on a loop!! 😅 I can still remember every second of that original Clod promo video dude..... as the red one drove across the sandy landscape, soon joined by the blue one!! 😊 Fast forward to 2025 and Fil drops the remix..... featuring a freshly constructed grey one, with some amazing 3s jumps, and delightful multi camera angle videography!!! Ah, the good old Clod Buster! Out of the box the suspension and especially the steering are not very good, but it's still loads of fun! Upgrades aren't that expensive, unless you go down the route I did and replace the chassis, plus add a few other choice upgrades, and now it runs so well, still not fast but always puts a massive smile on my face. And I race mine against other Tamiya 'big wheel' vehicles at my local off-road track, and everybody loves it! Superb video, love the slow-mo shots and the official Tamiya music and voice over, brilliant!!!!

Ahhhh, 1987. IN nearly 40 years, the only thing that Tamiya has done to the kit, was add the metal reinforcing plates on the chassis. I got mine from Eliminator as well 😊

@@jimmyjohnson6287 I was talking more about the design/engineering aspect of the truck. In regards to the speed controller, mine came with an HW 880 dual motor ESC. The original, I beleive, came with a mechanical one that could handle dual motors.

Excellent, Fil ✌ I wanted to do about something like this with the Hotshot 2 promo video, recreating most of the shots, transitioning from the original to the re-release. Obviously, this at least requires a fine sandy beach (not the most known feature of Switzerland), sometimes two Hotshot 2 together (equal a 3 people crew, in my dream) and one "cut" to show the mechanical speed controller... Let's say that's now a buried project 😅

I was wondering how durable is the Clod Buster. Did any parts break? You can get lots of after market parts to really trick it out. The one you were driving is a limited edition. However, I do not think it is that limited because you can still get it. Tower Hobbies even had a special on the blue kit you were driving. Thoughts?

They're surprisingly durable. Tamiya updated the weak points of the chassis with metal braces and that's all it needed. I run it on 3S, catch big air and it's awesome! 👍🏻
