For me, this is the pinicle in Tamiya. People argue that the Avante is, but for me its the Egress. This is only one of 2 cars that i will buy, build & keep as an ornament. Glenn, I know you were once on a mission to collect the first 100 Tamiya buggies and had a collection of envy but had to part for your reasons which I had a similar story but mine was collecting the iconic buggies from 1983-1989 and what I had lost I have finally got back which most of them I was able to retrieve the ones I actually sold in my 20’s and regretted it and won’t do that again lol so my question is all these builds and restros that you feature are these yours that you are slowly regaining what you’ve lost or you build for subscribers and you return? I hope it would like to see you capture back some of what you’ve lost. Thanks for making my boring days off not so boring

Glenn that Egress has come out beautiful. I know I'm 3 years late but that's not so important. I have an Egress Black edition I brought last year and haven't built yet. I would love to but then again I don't want to disturb the packaging , maybe I should have brought 2 . I also only 2 weeks ago got an Avante black edition still new in box . I gotta build one of them or look to by a second of one and build that. Dilemmas dilemmas👌🤣 I'm not greedy it's our hobby. It's just my family don't understand this hobby and my fondness for Tamiya RC cars. Love your work Glenn you are a master craftsman.

@@TAMIYALegends Glen u getta Axial ESC and u put that ESC to the test as I did.. I saw a axial u-tube Vidd of a 4x4 Axial truck with there waterproof Axial ESC in it..and they drove into a frozen iced over pond, and it dropped through the frozen ice and it stayed underwater for several minutes and it was driven underwater from one side of the pond and outta of the water and then it went back through and under the ice again. I can't tell u how Long it was under the frozen ice but it was a hell of a long time Glen.. !!!! I was talking to a guy at my local hobbytown usa about this Vidd and he said yep bulletproof ESC %100 plus they warranty there products to. He also said that what it does in extreme cold Temp's is the same thing it can do in extreme heat conditions to. The ESC can take extreme heat and not skip a beat. And THATS why they run $50-$60 us dollars. But the way I see it is I won't have to Ever worry about buying another ESC.. I just wish Axial made esc's for my RC airplanes. Maybe someday ...Hahaha... Really enjoyed this video Glenn. The Egress is my favourite and the best spec re-release Tamiya do... I understand why you lowered your suspension but I would like to go on record and show my disapproval, you can go too far (looks aren’t everything)... I prefer to use thick shock oil on the driveshafts it gets into the joint by capillary action but when running it throws the dirt from the surface, oil can be easily reapplied each running session the grease tends to hold onto the grit and dirt and requires a strip down build to clean and re-grease... I have shimmed the wheel axels with 0.5-0.6 mm shims it removes all the play from the wheels (you need a minimal play so the bearing don’t over heat and produce drag... ‘Thank for the mention Glenn’ I’m using the 10:5 turn brushless I have found the diffs will slip excessively on standard set up, I have found it’s better to just gently tighten it until the diff spring is fully compressed It still allow a slight slip on initial acceleration only, allowing it to behave like a slipper clutch but not so much slip it’s going to burn itself out... the original front shock mounts you are using "requires" those spacer plates you mentioned, they are to stop the torque motion of the bracket from cutting through the plastic lower arms! you could easily make some steel oblongs the dimensions of the hole in the lower arm the same thickness of the brackets fitted (I made some from thin FRP). (You might get away with leaving them out if you’re only car park bashing)... I have to say this obsession with the blue ball link nostalgia is driving me mad! they are rubbish plastic and have too much play if you intend to use your egress you need to stick the much better upgraded dark grey ball links (again looks aren’t everything) Once again it was a pleasure stopping by you are the LEGEND 👍

Thanks Neil, a lot of food for thought there my friend 😊 I think I’ll give it it’s first run as it is now, then work back through all the items you’ve mentioned as I try to make improvements as I go. I have to say the only real thing I’m concerned about is the diffs you mentioned. I really don’t want to burn them out with them slipping too much 😞. As the car stands now I made them slightly tighter than the manual suggested, so I’m really hoping that works, I don’t have a great record with ball diffs 😞 As always I really appreciated your feedback, more so on this car as I know it has a special place in your heart 🤩👊🏻

@@TAMIYALegends I'm glad you found it the same. Thought it was just me, I checked everything over and over. Everything is tight, seems to be a tiny bit of play in each each steering component so adds up to quite a bit of play overall. I thought about upgrading mine but I guess it's not worth it for the little use it will get... I'll just run it in a wide open space so I can't hit anything with the sloppy steering. 😂🤣

Fantastic video Glenn, I too am really enjoying the longer run-time of the Saturday clips. A quick comment about adjusting the ride height: I've found that it's usually best done with all the electrics and the battery installed, since adding those will no doubt lower the car a bit further due to weight. awesome build. Did you do the superglue round the carbon edges? Just wondered if it made a difference.

I really enjoy your enthusiasm for the Tamiya kits. In this video you mentioned the Super Clod Buster and it's blue ball ends. Is it the same shade of blue as the original Egress ?

Love the Saturday long build videos. I’d like to see more of the intricate parts put together too rather than off camera. And the installation of the radio gear. I like the start to finish format. Maybe do some body shells as well?

Glenn, I started using Lucas grease instead of the ceramic stuff due to gear melting with hot motor setups in my clodbuster and hotshot. What's your stance here?
@TAMIYALegends4 жыл бұрын
Oh I don’t have one tbh lol, I’ve only ever used the kit grease 🤷🏼♂️ Be interested to know if you got better results with it?

This is amazingly similar to the vanquish I had. Suspension motor plate and gearboxes look the same except the vanquish had planetary gear diffs on the axles and ball centre diff. Obviously the vanquish didn’t have carbon but all the screws look like they are in the same position. I still have mine I should see if I can get a new rear suspension mount:)

Great video Glen! Enjoying the channel. I still have the original from ‘89 which also included a full set of titanium screws!! One question for you, the re re includes a new front body mount built into the shock tower. Is that one used? How does the original mount not get in the way?

I figured in an $800+ kit this would have better looking plastics. I have in the past been really curious how this car was to build. So thanks for sharing this.

@krowe33 that's so wild. The same thing happened with the Kyosho Mid when it came out. They were trading for $1,000!! Now they're $375 and plentiful lol.

2:12 yeah i could not find any so i had to make some, it looked ridiculous without those bits, it was normal height at the back and without those parts it sat super low at the front, no idea what tamiya was thinking leaving those bits out

From what I’ve read it’s an upgrade to the original 🤷🏼♂️. Apparently those B8 & 9 parts were prone to breaking 😞 Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻

Just watching this again. You talk about fitting TRF big bores, did you put the big bore shocks on it yet?
@TAMIYALegends4 жыл бұрын
martin harrell Yes I did buddy it can be done with a little messing around. Firstly they made the car sit too high, so I fitted internal spacers to bring the ride height down. I also had to changed the shock bottoms to standard ones to take the ball connectors on the Egress as the standard aeration shocks use a different one
@duncanmcgregor79464 жыл бұрын

I am building my shelf queen 2 out of three that are must haves for my collection. I bought the nib original egress 89 at ebay for some cash. Then I am hoping my nib top force evolution from 92 comes today or monday. I need to fortify my house now=) The third car is the big one, the 501x, just built one with trf big bores=) Its perfect.

Great video, I've been trying to find the BF8 and 9 parts for ages. I've got some carbon replacements from Fibrelyte. In that thread the guy covers the mod to the suspension you mentioned. I think the balls may have popped off without it. On the thread someone asked if people would be interested in reproduction metal parts, is that something you could ask in one of the videos? The video was by Nolan J Philpott. And it was someone called Dave Cox asking if people would be interested in repro bf8/9 parts
