Bought it today, tried it out on some sprue and it glued just like Tamiya extra thin. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Mike, Yes, they are close enough that I can't tell the difference. I've built my last 3 models with airbrush cleaner. No problems at all. Have a great day. Jeff

Thanks Jeff, I've refilled my glue bottle with the airbrush cleaner now and as you say there is no difference Cheers Mike.

Interesting, have to check the local shop in Toronto next visit. Only thing I get is Tamiya's acrylic thinner. I've never looked for an airbrush cleaner, since I just use lacquer thinner, 1L for $12. Which can also contain the same two chemicals you mentioned. Lacquer thinner will briefly soften polystyrene, so likely could be used as well.

Thanks, I've never tried Lacquer thinners but if I do I'll give a go. The glue and the cleaner only have the 2 ingredients and as I say both in the same quantities. Cheers Mike.

here is my recipe for thin cement, which works exactly like Tamiya.... 50% lacquer thinner + 50% Acetone this will have much less odor than cellulose thinner/ lacquer thinner on its own, and less odor than Tamiya thin cement... the acetone facilitates fast clean evaporation, with some solvent power, the lacquer thinner is the stronger solvent that melts the plastic. enjoy ;O)

Thanks A.A, I've got quite a lot to last for a while but when I run low I'll try your recipe for sure. Cheers Mike.

I've been using it for a few years now, it's exactly the same as extra thin cement

Afternoon Gary, there are a lot of sceptics out there but as you say it's the same stuff. Cheers Mike.

And isn't Airbrush cleaner just thinners ?
@MikesMilitaryModelling10 ай бұрын
Hello John-Lee, air brush cleaner destroys the paint where thinners are normally part of the paint make up. A bit like the difference between white spirit and paint strippers. Hope that helps. Cheers Mike.

@@MikesMilitaryModelling I clean out my airbrush with cellulose
@occamsrayzor10 ай бұрын
I can't believe this sort of nonsense is so prevalent. Here's a test for you - take two dirty paintbrushes, and clean one with Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner, and the other with Tamiya Extra Thin, then set them aside for thirty minutes. The one cleaned with Tamiya Airbrush cleaner will be perfectly clean and ready for use, and the one cleaned with Tamiya Extra Thin will be solid and unusable. If that doesn't convince you, try cleaning your precious airbrush with Tamiya Extra Thin. I'll look forward to hearing your review on that. Just because the ingredients are similar, doesn't make it the same. Two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom makes water. Two hydrogen atoms and two oxygen atoms makes hydrogen peroxide. Which one would you make tea with? It's not the same thing.
@MikesMilitaryModelling10 ай бұрын
Hello, I'm not going to get into a discussion about this as you clearly feel you are right, however the record needs to be set right, the ingredients are exactly the same not similar as you suggest and the only difference is a 1% shift in the volume of of each from 50-50 to 49-51 which means the air brush cleaner will evaporate a little quicker than the cement. I must say I'm very impressed with the LEDs on your Razor Crest. Cheers Mike.

@@MikesMilitaryModelling I just re-read my comment and it comes across as really smug and antagonistic, which was not my intention, so I apologise for that. I'm going to have to do some more experimenting, as I've messed up brushes with this cement, and melted model parts with accidental spatters of the airbrush cleaner in the past. Chemistry is weird. 😄 Thanks for the kind comment about the Razor Crest
