Since I discovered that KZbin also processes low-resolution versions of high-definition videos in very good quality, I combined these two-part 1080p video series, remastered them in one piece 4K, and uploaded them again. I hope it reaches more people this time. If it is a series that you follow while building the same kit, the high resolution version will be more beneficial for you. If you've watched it before, nothing new. Have a great day modelers!

I guess that explains why, when I zoomed in on the cockpit to show my wife the finished 3D decals, everything went out of focus. Stunning model -- improving Tamiya's 1/48 F-14 is no mean feat. Congratulations!

I was an aircraft handler on USS Carl Vinson from 1988-1989. I can't tell you how many times I moved that particular F-14 Tomcat. It was VF-111's "showbird". I was there in Hangar Bay 3... watching when they painted that beautiful aircraft art on both sides. I'd give almost anything to go back to that time and be there once more.

I missed those days, but I was onboard the USS George H. W. Bush and that was the last combat deployment of the EA-6B. VAQ-134 kept those bird spotless and their showbird was beautiful. Seems they were there on your shop as well.

These build videos are unique in that a lot of the others, they do not annotate the brush needle size, psi and mixture ratios. As someone starting out new with this, this is especially helpful, not just to hear from the builder but see. Excellent work!

I can honestly say I think this is my favourite f14 build on KZbin, you got the weathering spot on, almost all the other videos you see guys who’ve spent hundreds and hundreds of hours with an incredible build…only to ruin it with massively over weathering at the end, I know they set out with the best intentions, to make it look realistic, but the end result is the most unrealistic it could be, if they were real some of the planes would burst into an enormous fireball the minute their afterburners were fired up because of the great big pools of oil all over them according to these over weathered models, not to mention they’d never get off the ground coz they look so poorly maintained, in fact the way over the top weathering is a disservice to the men and women who keep these jets in the sky every time they land and need maintenance and repair. Excellent model 😊

just the wings and tail planes. u can mass water soak about 6 at a time then apply in short order then repeat the group soaking ..until complete ....not as tedious as one would think.

A follow-up to a previous comment. I've re-watched this video twice now and you've inspired me to break out of my comfort zone (armor & ships) and tackle my first aircraft. I've ordered this F-14 and the aftermarket bits and I'm going to give it a shot. It will also be my first 'modern' model as I focus on WW1 and WW2 exclusively. Thanks for the push!

This video has inspired me to have a go (get back into) at scale modelling. First model I ever assembled and painted was a P-51 Mustang in the early 80s when I was 6 but since then mainly been doing wargaming miniatures. After some recent issues with work, my wife suggested I find a project to work on. Decided to put my energy and focus into working on a scale model again. Haven't gone with an F14 (yet) but it is my end goal.

WOW!!! I never knew about those cockpit decals until this video! Absolute game-changer for modeling! I was part of a (unfortunately, failed) kickstarter that was for UV ink 2D printed minaiature gaming bases for Warhammer 40K etc, so I was aware of this technology, but never thought of it being applicable to cockpit detailing! This opens up so many options I'd never considered before,

A genuine treat to watch you build model kits, and to hear your explanations of your various innovations. Would you, or any of your viewers, know if Tamiya makes a 1:32nd-scale plastic model kit of the Grumman F-14D Super Tomcat USN Air Superiority Fighter? If not, would you, or any of your viewers, know if an aftermarket company makes a mixed media conversion/detail set that one can apply to this Tamiya kit of the F-14A?

I completely understand ALL of the arguments around 3D printed and painted details, and too me, they just seem... I don´t know. I don´t want to knock them because I am impressed at the detail they provide simply by purchasing them, but for me it seems to move models more into the collectibles hobby. Again, I understand ALL of the arguments related. This is just my feeling.

It still requires assembly and painting -- collectors just buy it completed. Or -- in the vast majority of cases -- the kit collects dust on a shelf awaiting a yard sale.

This was a beautiful build, the cockpit was just amazing, was almost a shame to hide it away in the fuselage. Those 3d printed decals were a great addition to the build, I've not seen anything like that for armor or ships yet. I would certainly use them if they were available - any type of new tech that makes the build more realistic is very welcome. Also. as I'm getting older (62) the eyes & hands are not as good as they used to be, so any help with details is greatly appreciated. I enjoy your build videos, very relaxing, low key, and spectacular work - thank you for sharing!

Of all the kits available, Tamiya is always my first choice. If Tamiya make a kit of the subject I am looking for, that is what I buy, once you build a Tamiya kit, it's hard to build a kit from other makers unless it is Moebius. other kits tend to pale in comparison. The Tomcat is of course one of my Favorite jets but there are so many good ones to choose from now it's hard to make a choice. Currently my favoured genre of kits is Military ground forces, AFVs and support vehicles. But I do get fighter jets once in a while too.
