The Tamiya Lunchbox takes on the Tamiya Monster Beetle in our first head to head chassis battle.
Three stages each with three laps on ad hoc stages. The fastest overall time over the three stages.....wins!

Love it mate!! You know I love my ORV's and CWO1's..... both inherently flawed designs, but both soooo much fun to drive! Something so entertaining about racing cars like these. Out of over 30 cars in my possession, these are always my 'go to' runners (got 5 MT ORV's and 3 CWO1's) The lunchbox has virtually no steering, and wheelies and bounces about where ever it chooses.... and the Monster Beetle is heavy, likes to flip, and has some of the worst ever steering slop known to man.... and loves to eat its own diff and spit out drive shafts! But let's face it, we wouldn't have it any other way eh?! 😉 Both vehicles done exceptionally well there bearing all this in mind..... some great driving helped! It was obvious the beetle would win, despite all of its issues it is a very controllable rig off road, with very precise turning ability.... it's buggy chassis origins come through every time! The lunchbox being lighter is generally a tad quicker.... there's a certain art in trying to stop those front wheels from lifting upon acceleration, and hoping that it bounces in the general direction that you want to go! These things looked right at home on the sandy bottom of Dom land, and I bet it was a very enjoyable session to record mate! Class entertainment Mr Dom. 👌 👍 👍 👍

a great comment mate. i got the mip in the mb so haven’t had to many problems but it still sounds rough . the lb is a tank . but they are two of my favourites and this was a lot of fun . might get the blackfoot one day 😊👍thanks for watching mate

@@rc-dom-uk Cool man..... in all honesty the MIP diff is essential if you plan to drive any of the ORV big wheeler family. At first I couldn't justify the cost of the MIP upgrade, as you know, they ain't cheap! But, after going through 3 sets of gears, and two pairs of gearbox plates in less than a year I realised that the MIP was worth every penny. Not had any issues since, I have a superstock bz fitted and thrash the t**s off of it and it takes it all in its stride! But yeah, they still sound a bit ropey! 😂 The blackfoot is gorgeous as is the mud blaster..... these two stay on the shelf though as they are totally mint, and an awful lot of work went into the bodies. I always find it funny- There's so many modern monster truck bashers that are so much better out there now, from many different manufacturers..... but they are of little interest to me. I always return to the trusty ORV and CWO1's. They are both easy to work on, and as they have been around so many years the spare parts are cheap and plentiful! What more can you ask for? Did you ever see my 'mud beetle' short over at 'yoda darkside of Green Hawks RC'? The dirtiest Monster Beetle in the history of you tube!! 😂 That's what their all about, good old fashioned fun! 👍 👍 👍

@theoagrc Oh far from it Craig!! Rewind 35 years.......I had my CWO1, and my two mates both had ORV big wheelers..... Yeah they would be able to turn with ease, and have great control..... but their ORV rigs were always broken down by the end of the session with either hex dog bone issues, or from the diff gears eating themselves up! 😂 My CWO1 just kept going no matter what abuse I threw at it!! 😂 👍 👍 👍

I've got both and love both. The Beetle is a lot more stable, especially with jumps. But, both are great and a lot of fun!

Hard fight for the Lunch Box. It's chassis has no racing history like the ORV. She might have no chance against the Beetle, but she's still my favorite.

Nice race! that independent suspension and oil shocks help the beetle win. But putting the hammer down and doing a wheelie off the line is a win in my books.

Both Tamiya legends. The suspension and steering is night & day better on the MB but the LB is all about entry level fun factor and appeals to pretty much everyone

Another great head-to-head run Dom! I figured the Lunchie would struggle a little with all the rough sand but other than the first race it did very well. I enjoyed it and I am always going to be pulling for the Lunch Box!!

thanks buddy. growing up i was always after the monster beetle . just a bit weird and cool looking . but this was a fun run as i really pushed the LB but you just can’t bargain with that bounce steer .😂still this was good fun to make 😊👍

@AdventureTimeRC Highly recommended fella, it's a really enjoyable build, and very different from what we get today. Tip-- If you plan on driving it regularly I would highly recommend the MIP ball diffs upgrade. The stock diff on these cars is useless, the gearbox plates warp in no time, and the gears start bouncing about and shredding all over the place! The MIP diff totally solves this issue, it will also then take some pretty powerful motors with ease! 👍

That was fun and the LB was surprisingly close to the MB and did look the more fun from these two legendary tamiya monsters! Maybe add a new category Dom obviously going on your own opinion driving them! (The most Fun to drive category) that could give some surprising points away??
