@@phongpit Thank you :) There are no stupid questions. I'm an engineer, too :) This motor was just a random motor I picked out of my box of unused motors. Not every motor will get to 29k, but if you clean out the insides using this method, it will certainly be a lot faster than 18k-20k :)

Hi! I just bought my first tamiya and saw this video on making the motor faster! I have a question, can you care to explain what is the science behind this? Or is there any videos/article explanations on why this works? Because I saw some people turn the motor forward, then backwards even with different voltages etc, seems very arbitrary or is there really science behind it 🤔? Thank you! Love your Tamiya contents!

thank you, a really nice share! i've heard about water break-in, but i never tried it myself, always doing it dry. i'm really curious on how the brushes look after the process! a stock motor that runs up to 29k is ridiculously fast! on a 3.5:1 ratio, how fast does it run?
@claredin
@claredin Жыл бұрын
It all depends on the car and all the components in it (how well-assembled they are, how straight the wheel shafts are). Box stock cars usually run at 18km/hr to 24km/hr. I've had cars run at 28km/hr with a 28k motor. Check out my red car called Phoenix in my videos. Also check out my page claredin.com in the "cars" section for lots more MIni 4WD tips.

This is incredible! I do have one question, why the carb cleaner in the beginning ? is it safe on the motor brushes?
@claredin
@claredin Жыл бұрын
The carb cleaner (and the electronics cleaner) will remove all the guck and dirt inside the motor. I got the tip on the carb cleaner from a pro racer, so, yes, that should be fine on the motor brushes. My addition to cleaning was to clean again with electronics cleaner to really give it an extra clean. Water tiuning will wash away all the guck and dirt that was loosened up. Right after water cleaning is when a motor's is most vulnerable, so proper oiling, as shown, is vital.

I didn’t realize you can tune mini 4wd motors! Used to have these way back. Now guess I’m hooked again and just bought couple new models and subscribed to your channel! Now I’m curious about tuning and hoping you can help? What tools do you usually use? In this video I think I saw g force tuner, voodoo and ganapati oil. You also mentioned carb cleaner and electronics cleaner - any preferred brand for those? And how do you use those (sorry I’m a newbie on these). Is that all that is generally needed? 29k but 3.0volts. Whats the rpm in 1.5v?
@claredin
@claredin 4 ай бұрын
Don't worry so much about exact numbers at X volts. Measure and compare the speed of different cars on the Tamiya speed checker. Place any car on the roller wheels closest to the LCD readout and measure the speed of the car. Now compare that to another car. Most cars are 24km/h if they are pretty fast. A few can be 25 or 26. Maybe one car in 1,000 can be 27 or 28. One of my cars was 28. I've even seen one car that was 29. That's how you should compare cars. But remember, speed isn't a guarantee to win races, but you can't "teach" speed. :)

@@chuckpg31 Ah, I know what you mean. That's the battery pack I'm using. The voltage is generally lower on it than the G-Force. I have questions though, this is really a beast almost like a hyper dash in a sense but does this only happen during break-in? How about its speed when has load and on the track also batteries easily dies down if rechargeable types it easily becomes 2.4v after a few laps. I wonder how much speed it can retain when that happens cuz I don't have these things I would love to test it and I think it will benefit all of us. 😁 Thanks
@claredin
@claredin Жыл бұрын
Hi antonioiii, over time, motors lose RPM due to soot that builds up inside the motor. If you have too much soot inside, you will need to clean the motor again, but I don't recommend water-tuning it again, only oiling it to wash out the soot. (There is a lot of information that I cannot say in just a reply or two, so someday I will teach a complete class on all of this.) In the US, we only use alkalines with our box stock races, so I have little experience with rechargeables with box stock cars. I would say that the speed of a car definitely degrades when batteries are at 2.4V. Alkalines are definitely preferable for a sustainable charge of 3.0V or above, but they do add a lot of weight to a car, so that's certainly a factor.
