This and the Bruiser are probably the most awesome RC cars ever. As a child I'd stare at these boxes at the hobby shop and dream of owning one. They're quite special.

Epic looking truck Glenn!! Well done. Funnily enough I have that bodyshell on my Axial SCX-10 crawler. I added lights, indicators and everything. Birds nest of wiring and the light controller sits underneath a wooden box in the tray. all controlled by a switch on my TX. There's also a winch that works again controlled from the TX. Yes that body sure is heavy and there's lots of screws holding it together but it looks amazing...especially if the LEDs you install are warm white..That yellowish colour old school halogen bulbs put out. After wiping off the standard mirrors I installed some rubber items from Yeah Racing. I bought a simple action figure in 1/10th scale (Wrestling figurine) and threw on a hoodie that you can get from Ali-express and it looks spot on.

great truck . i am such a tamiya fan. back then and still today i love the artwork on the boxes. my monster beetle was my pride and joy as a kid. ball bearings, bigger motor, electronic speed controller etc. dont get some of the other channels ,who throw their ready to race cars around and they seam to find joy in it, just to destroy them. when you build them for days or weeks their are your little babies.
@user-bd5md5cm2j Жыл бұрын
Thankyou!!! Yes!! These channels just destroying there cars.... I hate it. My first Rx was a grasshopper. Then the bruiser. Loved them. Still do. Bought a new one of each for shelf Queens. Takes me back so fast to jr.high

I built both my and my brother's Bruisers when they were new in the 80s. It was a beast compared to the all plastic Tamiya cars we'd had before. It was SO heavy especially with that huge 6V double wide battery. The controller that you had to use at the time was a 4 channel stick (2 directions on each stick) and they gave you a gate to tape over the throttle stick to help make sure you were catching the right gears in the left-right direction. it was a little clunky and easy to not get it into gear. Now that we have multi-channel trigger/wheel radios with fixed positions like my Noble NB4, selecting a gear is much easier. Great truck!

Super Glue, you need Glue for Plastic Models Glenn like those from Tamiya itself or from Revell , special made for glueing plastic cars, ariplanes etc etc.... when you use spray paint TS series then the Tamiya Plastic model glue does not damages the TS paint

Turned out real nice Glenn. :D One little suggestion, would be to hit the driver figure with a matt varnish, the gloss make it look like he's wearing some latex clothes, and oil in his hair :D Truck looks stunning, nicely done. A fine addition to your collection.

Hi I have always liked this model right from to original Hilux from the 81' Now watching this I have decided to get the Bruiser and convert the body to this. I have done my research on them and I can get all the parts off the Toyota Hi lift. I am 99% sure they will fit.. I hope that when Tamiya have the 50years celebration they make another Mountain rider as I will be ready and waiting.... Great channel I like the way your go into detail with items. Also liked the Kyosho turbo optima build another one to buy. Thank you

I used a kit to adapt the hubs to accept 12mm hex fitting wheels. I used them on my Tamiya Bruiser clone and fitted some 5 piece weighted wheels with some 100mm wall tyres that look super scale. I also dyed the white parts black with Ryt dye and looked great! I also did all the detail in black. Excellent detail Glenn! You can see it here my friend!

I had always wanted to get one of those Tamiya trucks but they were a bit too expensive for me. I'm mostly into RC4WD and have discovered that leaf springs really need the weight to work properly. I would love to get one of these(even if it's the knock-off). Looks awesome Glen!

Mate it looks amazing if you can fix the rattle on the rest of the shell would be great. As it would annoy you if you ran it out on a trail . I think as the transmission is quite good and not noisy that would get on your nerves. Great job looking forward to your next build

I've never been a fan of the huge white bumpers and so I always leave them off. However, seeing yours painted silver, I really like them. My front bumper (under the grill) was supplied in chrome, has Tamiya changed that? Anyway, well done sir!! 🙂

Wow! Your truck looks great. I have a re-release Tamiya Bruiser. It took for ever to finish it. I would like to get Tamiya Mountaineer. It is hard to justify buying one because I already have the Bruiser. However, I bought the fake Bruiser and I planing to make it look the Mountaineer. You can buy either fake or real Tamiya parts to do it. Thoughts?

Size comment at 19:00.. Yeah, bugs me how Tamiya, a plastic model company call both the Blackfoot and this 1/10 when their Hilux body is just a touch smaller than 1/8th and the Blackfoot body is closer to 1/12th scale. Even then, going back to the SRB, the Sand Scorcher is quite 1/10th, measure from the wheelbase of a VW Beetle, but a F150 sold on the same chassis is also 1/10th.
