Agree this is the best looking one :) Always thought the sleeper cab on the Bruiser was a bid strange looking. 57071 is 84386 packaged with radio gear, battery and ESC as a "Complete Kit". 47394 is a second production run after Tamiya changed from the 84xxx to 47xxx numbering for limited production kits (the 911 GT2 and Fighting Buggy also changed from 84 to 47 on subsequent production runs).

It's a stunning piece of model engineering perfection I've had the bruiser and the clone and they are amazing to watch! But (and I'm probably going to upset the fans of this chassis range) it's a rc which is better to look at than to use! It's a bit to bouncy and the body does tend to rattle around a lot dare I say a bit naff when its going over the rough stuff but a beautiful truck sitting on the shelf👍 tamiya do a black bumper set for it strangely and you can buy chrome bumpers but they are quite expensive😯 brilliant video again mate👍

Those 4 old 3 spd were at another level. The use of metal is just eye candies. The 1/14 truck 3 spd is a grade lower and the newest 3spd pick ups just a sea of plastic. The Bruiser is just as nice as the Mounty, except Tamiya mucked up the box art. The bumpers are plastic. Blazer and Hilux bumpers are metal. You can put dual shocks at the rear, at least for the original. The re-release has 2 plugs on the tranny, the original has 3 plugs. You are going to love it for the look, but can't perform like today stuff. Just need a driver and interior door panels to give it even more realism. Enjoy.

The one modification I would really suggest is to relocate the steering servo to the front. Ampro engineering makes an adapter. I put it in my HG P407. Huge difference in driving. I also got rid of a leaf at each corner and took the springs and oil out of the shocks.

Hi Glen, Awesome kit pal. I had the blazer and my mate had the original Toyota. Those two kits you had to build the chassis and the axles, the only thing pre-built was the gearbox. My mate has three channels and could change gear on the move, i only had two channels and had to change gear manually.. They battery's were a big flat square 6v, but I used my sand scorcher 7.2v hump battery's and connected two together... Which gave my blazer just a little more speed. Enjoy pal.

I was just about to mention Matteo but obviously you've already seen his videos. By the way, he had the bumpers chrome plated for his truck. Anyway, I really like these old 3 speed Bruisers. I wanted one back in the mid '80's but I couldn't afford one back then. I currently have three of them at the moment: one box stock (a runner), one outfitted like the Mountaineer (my favorite version and a shelfer) and one still in the box. I'm waiting and hoping for a true 1/10 scale Ford F150 body like the Blackfoot to go on the last one. You really should build your copy to run. They won't run fast even in high gear but are so much fun to drive. Cheers!

another awesome educational video for me thanks mate. love it. only had the blackfoot of the models shown in this. the clod buster was also cool, but always thought it's more for the builders and not for the fun bashers like I was then. too difficult, too expensive when i was a kid. loved all tamiya models, but knew already then, this one would not make me happy... grasshopper was my first, which was then modded, trashed, fixed and trashed again over the years... i even won a few races with my modded grasshopper hehe but then the speedier and better handling cars came out. one of my favourite ones ist hotshot, bigwig, wild willy, frog, grasshopper... now i'm 47y old and i just love watching all things retro and from time to time i buy old models and videogames... just because the new stuff is somehow really dull and boring tbh. looks nice and good quality, but doesn't trigger my retro heart like the older tamiya, kyosho or even marui rc cars.

There is just a small number of really brand-defining models for each RC car maker, be it Tamiya, Kyosho, Marui or newer ones. For Tamiya I'd list the #) *Buggy Champ* *Sand Scorcher*, #) without question: the *Pickup-Bruiser-family*, just because there's practically no other scale car showing off "brute 70ies engineering". I remember building it in '91 ... it was like ... handling a Nikon F4, compared to their competitors: solid heavy metal ... an unmatched feeling, in the workshop and out there in the garden #) *Frog-chassis* (which fits the Frog better than any other body shell it was raped with all over the years), #) the *959/Celica 1/12* ... which, as I understand, evolved into the later street 4x4 chassis (but flopped, because too fragile for their Technigold-speed?) #) *Avante*, for its pure japanese over-engineering (front suspension!!), especially the remake that eliminated the original weaknesses (like cast parts -> milled ones), but NOT the plastic descendants. I also don't really like the changes of the Egress, even if they make it the better, more reliable race car) I'd really like to see the Hilux get some "rolling release" (+upgrade parts), enhancing it to a step by step more realistic function model, like, with torque converter, remote locking differentials, air-dampers, fancy lighting and sound FX, ... Plastic toys like the Grasshopper, Boomerang/*-Shot-series, and many base-plastic-tub-based ones might have gotten Tamiya rich, but IMHO it will stay famous for the list above.

I always wanted one, but for me it has to be the Bruiser, I like the look of that over the stock Hilux on the Mountaineer to be honest. Those High-lift series you talked about use a straight C channel like the tractor trucks and their gearbox is the same as the one in tractor trucks, just with a transfer box fitted to the end to make it 4x4. I had several of those High-lift series as base of custom projects, usually running the those HL axles or TLT axles. TLT axles is 6mm narrower than HL axles and HL axles has a round diff casing on the axlehouse and they have the option of locking the diff. Beside a little longer half shafts, TLT and HL axles use the same stuff on the inside. RC4WD make/made stuff to beef up those axles. Beside the High-lift series and Mountaineer uses both a 3 speed gearbox, every part between them is different when it comes to axles, frame and gearbox. A decade ago I built a custom project using Bruiser frame, HL axles, 4 link up front and leaf springs in the rear. Used small 1.9 tires from RC4WD and it was awesome. I miss that rig.

The mountaineer was always the preferred kit out of the two. Im not a fan of the crew cab I think that’s why bruisers are easier to get hold of. mine needs finishing the chassis done running a 16 turn brushless as they tell you not to change the motor couldn’t decide whether to go bruiser with a roll bar or get the mountaineer stickers
