I was buying broken Tamiya Porsche 959 cars on eBay. I would just combine all the parts so that I could build one car. However, I ended up with enough parts to build 3 cars. This was not my plan. I have all kinds of parts. I was buying these cars about 4 years ago. However, you can not do this today. Broken cars and even the parts are just super hard to get. I do not have an original unbuilt kit. I do wish that I did. I do have two original bodies, I even have original tires and wheels. I do agree, that this car and the Bronco are probably the most wanted Tamiya cars. I used to work at a hobby shop. I just could not afford to get one of these cars, but I really wanted one. I think it is great that I finally found the chance to actually have get this car.

I had a new in box Porsche, was never going to build it, I built it over the covid lockdown period, and I agree with you it’s an epic car, I always wanted it as a kid but could never afford it, so when one came up for sale some years ago I pressed the go button, it was awesome to build as well, even back then the designed it in modular form, classy highly engineered piece of kit.

built this with a buddy of mine sometime in the early 90's. took us a few days, early childhood was amazing with this car, what an amazing machine . I do remember the axel split and the 4wd shaft snapped after a couple of years, but we taped it together. wish i kept it the 959. thinking of building the same with my son today.

I would stand and watch it forever... managed to pick a 959 up about 10 years ago, but a few things are broken and I just cannot find parts. I also had one of these, and loved building it, as at that time, it was like nothing I had ever built before.... As much as I loved this unit, the one draw back, was it was 1/12 scale.. and if it was not on clean pavement, the thing would bounce all over the place, the faster you went, and the more you push it past that threshold, , the higher the risk of rolling it.. The flat slick tires for it, gave it a neat look, but couldn't run those, as it made it even worse to handle... Please do not get me wrong, I miss it, and loved to just look at it... I suppose, stock, out of the box, and a stock motor, matches it just fine for playing around in the street or empty parking lot, but to throw any measure of performance at these units, I wouldn't do it, as it will only disappoint you... I machined a set of 4, aluminum rims for it, and glued a set of foam tires on, and took it to my local indoor carpet race track, and that was fun, but, even the stock motor, was cooking hot, LOL.. I wish I still had that unit.. The cleverness of the front and rear suspension and the shocks was a great education and was the first time I learned about the damper oil foaming up, and volume displacement, when I asked a guy, what the point of the little chunks of tubes on each shock damper was for... As I was distracted with the idea, that the tubes were to fill the shocks with oil through them, yet, the instruction didn't show that you fill them through the tubes... great car, just hard to keep straight and heavier power.. Here is what kills me... I sold mine for $50 bucks, USD... LOL.... OUCH!!!!!!!!!

Use a hole punch to create some circles to repair the body holes. Apply the circles from the inside, use a cotton bud to wedge them in then go with a little glue. Then you can use wet and dry to smooth the outside edge. Had to do a similar repair before and this worked well.
