@@shadow7037932 perhaps in the states. Overseas? You have so many different companies building RC, it’s dizzying. Weirdly, they build them around Tamiya wheelbases. But as for bodies, NO ONE builds them as good as Tamiya! Yes, Yokomo have much more detailed examples but no one builds them with the same level of detail as Tamiya. FYI, Arrma and Traxxas are both Horizon Hobby products and in the states, Horizon trumps Tamiya. Better support than Tamiya in the US too.

A guy at my local hobby shop said it best, “folks today don’t like building the kits, so Tamiya doesn’t sell like before”. To me that says that RTR’s (in particular the cheap ones) has led to lazy “hobbyists” and I am guessing these are the ones that disrespect Tamiya. I consider myself a “wrencher” and I love Tamiya and always will. Building, upgrading and fixing are all part of the fun.

I love Tamiya and they were the first RC kit for me. However Tamiya is behind the times in comparison to say TLR and even RTRs like ARRMA/Traxxas. For example, Tamiya ESCs don't support 3S and higher LiPO setups. And the polymer that Tamiya uses for the arms on say the TT02B is worse than what Arrma uses in their MEGA and 3S lineup. And you can't blame RTRs when they offer much better value.

Glenn i could write an entire thesis on this subject but i obviously won't! lol! I agree 110% with all your sentiments about Tamiya and their models/names of models etc! For any 10 year old kid getting his first "proper" rc car for Christmas, he couldn't care less what the name of the car is!!?? All he's interested in is this amazingly beautiful and fast rc car he's just received thats gonna give him memories he will cherish for the rest of his life!! Glenn i remember i would often just sit down with my rc cars and simply drool over how they looked!! The beautiful silver can motor, the bright vibrant colours, the cool wheels, the awesome Radio Controller, etc etc etc!! Building them was/is amazing and exciting, saving up pocket money and making those mega exciting trips to the model shop for a new faster motor, or a new bodyshell, or whatever!! Drooling over Tamiya RC catalogues, racing my car with my mates cars, the fun just never ends Glenn!! I think these people who criticise Tamiya are missing the point entirely of what the whole Tamiya experience is meant to be...fun and special memories!! Wes, Liverpool, UK

I agree, this is a HOOONDRED percent Tamiya. ;) I was indifferent when it was announced but this chassis has really grown on me. I fully feel it does deserve the Avante name as the Avante was the first over engineered racer from Tamiya and this chassis is the next logical evolution of that. Haters can suck it and I'll fight them over it. I love the chances they took with this. I love the oddball look too. I love those unnecessary fenders, so cool! It's also grown on me. Originally, I had no plan of buying one, but it is DEF going to be added to my collection, but sadly not for a another 6 months or so. I hope Tamiya keep taking chances like this (which they will because they always do). Long live Tamiya!!!!

Very well said Glenn. Haters gonna hate! To me Tamiya got a lot right here, new chassis, characterful styling, full bearings, better quality plastics and hex bolts. Looks are very subjective but I quite like the way it looks, there's significant room for improvement with the wheels, wing and colour scheme (hopefully MCI will be quick to do replica decals so we can try different colours). Apparently the designer was also not happy about the fluorescent wheels and I believe from looking at the unboxing videos they've actually changed them to a more standard yellow? The battery can be fitted across the car so I hope lifting the steering will only be needed if you want the optimal weight distribution.

That should be a huge sign that good things are to come. People complained that they use the same chassis over and over and throw a new body on it and rename it. This is what happened to the Frog. It was a new chassis and design and look what happened following that buggy. Without the Frog the 80’s would not have had the icons that came out. It really makes me laugh when some people try to suggest that calling this car Avante somehow violates the Avante name and that the name is sacred. These people really need to get a grip and stop taking it so seriously. Tamiya is all about having fun in your own back yard or local park or empty car park rather than serious competitive racing, that’s not to say they can’t be competitive it’s just not Tamiyas main priority, in fact Tamiya are predominantly a model making company before RC even!!! Who else gives you the fun, quirky diverse models that Tamiya give you? Then, there’s the fun of building the kit and the iconic Tamiya box art, instructions, quality, fit and finish you get and finally the satisfaction of running the model you built from scratch, it’s just an awesome experience all the way through!!! Everything you said in this video was “Cock on” to quote your own good self and I love your videos and this channel.

the problem with tamiya at this price point is , in my opinion and experience , who is going to buy the td4 and take it to the track next to AE , losi ,schumacher etc ? so if it is not really aimed at club racers , and for less money you can get an arrma 4x4 mega or even blx v3 for the street or just park running on 2s which are tougher , better handling , easier to work on for beginners and faster and cheaper to repair for the experienced rc'er , it starts to become clear that Tamiya (in this instance) have aimed this kit squarely at those who love tamiya and the insane hop up market . if the super avanti was £100 for the kit it could be competitive but its way too much . there is nothing wrong with this for tamiya fans and collectors but i dont personally feel the middle aged market for tamiya will be around for ever and by the time tamiya try to catch up they may be too many laps down , and no one will be left to care about reissues of sand scorchers and wild ones . do us a favour and add up the money you have in the car and hop ups once done and do a simple comparison with what off the shelf arrma , losi , aasociated et all ' can be had for the same money , just as a new comer to the hobby might be doing when perusing all the videos on youtube and all the cars available on the web. you could even get ,lets say an arrma typhon 3s v3 blx ,take both cars out on 2s and do an 'honest comparison' from an rc driver perspective rather than a middle aged tamiya fan perspective and i think/hope you might just start to understand the "haters" , they dont hate , they just want Tamiya to actually be number 1 for rc around the world again or at least try to stay on the lead lap. i love my tamiyas , but when i want to really 'drive' an rc car , tamiya is no longer my first choice and hasn't been for some time. a massive company that has let its RC department slide into a rather niche corner . sad from my point of view, but as you said ,,tamiya know what they are doing .

Tamiya's main target audience is in Japan, and when it comes to powered and R.C. models, the younger crowd. For example mini 4WD is very successful there. Many of their newer designs seem to come from mini 4WD. Personally it's not for me as they look to cartoony and toy-like, which can be seen in the many entry level buggies, comical series and mini 4WD. Their re-re series is really a generous line to please us as it plays on nostalgia (and really my hat's off to Tamiya for letting me have a chance to re-live some warm memories!), but it's not their primary market, and it's not in fashion to the younger crowd I don't think. Tamiya knows what they are doing though, times change and they adapt.

For me, Its a unique looking car, the look reminds me of my Nichimo Luminous 4WD, which is also a special car. The body and wing comes unpainted - so you can create your own colour scheme for it. And when the spare parts will be as long available, as for example, for the DF-01 cars and the Clodbuster, then we are save to play with this Super Avante a very long time.

If you want to race, buy a racing car, if you want to just smash an RC car/truck, buy a RTR. However, if you enjoy building the car as much as running it, or you enjoy the varied chassis’s and being able to buy cars/trucks from the 80’s and 90’s then Tamiya might be for you. I just want the hobby to be healthy with affordable choices for everyone. I want Tamiya to do well, the racing companies to do well, and the RTR companies to do well. IMHO there’s room for all three.

Once again well said Glen. What really gets me is that some people are always so ready to just troll and rudely criticize other people’s interests or hobbies, and all from behind the cowardly stance of a keyboard! If you don’t get what Tamiya are about then go and find something that satisfies your wants from another brand or even another hobby, because you don’t understand the Tamiya brand. Tamiya have always been and continue to be about engineering, if you enjoy the mechanics of building something with your own hands you’ll get this, and the reward their kits provide the builder. I personally got into making scale models as a kid growing up in the 80’s, there were lots of plastic model kits available from various European manufacturers in the UK during this time and I cut my teeth making replicas of the aircraft my Grandfather flew in the Battle of Britain and the rest of WW2. As I got more proficient at building and painting I found Tamiya, and to me their kits were next level, the quality was far better than anything else at the time that I’d built before and their kits were just a real joy to experience from start to finish. This started from the moment you purposely walked into a model shop, the allure of the always stunning box art to the sheer scale and depth of model kits that seemed to cover every possible interest! Personally this is when the natural progression into their RC kits happened, they enhanced the model building experience with the introduction of electronics and then ultimately interaction with your creation! If something grabs your attention and then fulfills your desire to create and build and then ultimately enjoy that personally effort you have invested so much time into then Tamiya as a brand has exactly what you’re looking for! Don’t we all deserve just a little bit more joy and escapism in our lives rather than being a miserable hating troll behind a keyboard in a dark room! Don’t stand on the sidelines, come and enjoy the party, it’s really very special!

Then, fast forward to 2021 and imagine the release of the Avante. The hordes would be in an uproar as well. Not everyone will be happy all the time. We all know humans. But, realize that because of Tamiya, we can have thousands of static and RC models that suite each and everyone's fancy. It is like the 1:1 car world, you do not criticize someone else's build/car. That is what they love and that is what matters to them. The Super Avante will be the same for many - a car that easily checks the "want" box of life. But looking back now as an adult they were just ignorant fools that should have been ignored, but peer pressure mattered then! Its just unfortunate that some of these people have not matured to see their folly & passed it on to the next generation. You Sir, have made an excellent rational & mature analysis of this type of behaviour! A really cool looking car 👍, but I agree with the wheel color and the removal of the springs to get to the battery. I would probably leave the battery in the car so that the front springs don't pop off after a while. Some aluminium colored rims would look great on this car, the wheel fenders, and windows to the front springs are very cool 👌. I must say , I would rather have a totally new name for this car, because I think it has it's own look and personality ,it's cool 😃👍👍.

I get that some people (especially nowadays) just wanna buy an RC car charge a battery and “Send IT” as high or as fast as possible until something breaks that’s fine, then you have your hardcore racers that look at a kit like the TD04 and just see all the plastic turn their nose up in favor of a dedicated race buggy like Xray or Team Associated etc made from Carbon fiber and Aluminum. I hate that some people don’t see there’s room for all in this hobby. Personally is a Super Avante on my want list unfortunately no I kinda want to build one to build one but it’s not aesthetically pleasing to me as a shelf queen and just to weird as a fun driver (really not liking the battery setup) but that’s JMO everyone’s free to disagree I’m currently building a TA05R because I just wanted it 🤷‍♂️ when I’m done I’ll probably race it for a bit and park it on a shelf in favor of one of my more hardcore Touring Cars

I just bought a Tamiya Eleglitter Glenn its pure tamiya! Anyway yeah my opinion is... Pros are its TAMIYA!!!! love the design, love the looks, love the boxart, the name is ok...well actually l think the name TD4 would of been awesome and call the chassis something different! Comes ballraced, tamiya going old school again!! Right the cons....PRICE! and the fact for the cost of the kit it comes with no motor! It would of been cool to have a special GT motor with the decal! Great vid Glenn😉

The TD4 for me personally is everything Tamiya does best, cool character cars! The wheels are a bit of mis-step and needed to be their own unique design to tie the whole design together. I would have loved for them to be a nod to the Cam Loc design. I'm a massive Avante fan and although it isn't the prettiest design I really want one.

I totally agree, Tamiya is a unique manufacturer with unique cars. They are not for everyone but that is ok. They understand there place in the market and aren’t going to change who they are and what they do just to gain market share. There are plenty of other manufacturers out there to keep everyone smiling. To each their own.

I wouldn't class that as a rant buddy,I found it very interesting. I must admit I'm not a fan of the body and wing but the chassis looks cool imo, maybe it could of been called something else but it doesn't bother me that much, can't wait to see what your going to do with yours when it arrives 🔥👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Thanks Glenn for the great insight, covering various perspectives which is extremely useful. The price is a big factor (to hold back) for me. I mean, if we look at the Fire Dragon’s price. Well, there’s a big difference in price and there’s no carbon fiber (rear carbon shock towers, etc) or CNC parts (gold shocks, metal knuckles, etc) in the Super Avante to ‘substantiate’ it. :)

I agree with some parts about the super avante. The color of the rims is my biggest catch. But I think Tamiya mog has scored right against me and my preferences anyway, In an earlier video from you, we were asked what we wanted from Tamiya. I think that super avante ticks off all the boxes about what many wanted to see. A brand new buggy in classic Tamiya style. We race lunatics have to wait for super egress 😉🤩

I totally agree with what you said about the haters and it’s your channel and you should be able to say what you want. As for the battery I would just charge it in the car.I think I would paint the spoiler but I do love the colour scheme. As for the wheels once you get some mud on them they will look great lol

I'll tell everyone right now who and what Tamyia is all about , Tamyia is about making happiness and fantasy, In the beginning of the 70's there was Heathkit and team Accociated which were awesome but , The coast of these rc cars was out of reach for the average kid, In 76 Tamyia the model company dove in and brought us the Porsche 939 . Now the not rich kids like me could have an rc car too, The first radio control car I ever saw ,was of course the Hornet, I instantly fell in love with it, 40 years later I've had everything thing rc tanks/boats/trucks/cars/motorcycle/helicopters/planes/everything! But even today my favorite rc of all times is the humble little Hornet ,, It was my first love and will be until the end of my time here on this rock .

I totally agree with you Glenn on this. I think if someone is argumentative on your facebook group and tries to upset and bully other people then they should be kicked off the page for good. We don't need people like that theres no need for it. As far as this new Avante goes Im warming to it :)

Spot on for me. Tamiya is awesome and haters should do one :) You can't beat the magic and uniqueness of a Tamiya. I race Xray, Schumacher and Awesomatix cars as well as collect/bash Tamiyas. Both types of model have their place and I enjoy both sides of the hobby. Everyone should be free to enjoy whatever they want, it's no-one else's business. I agree with your issues with the Super Avante and thought exactly the same about the name already being over used on unworthy cars before this one. Personally I think this chassis looks cool and different. I Wouldn't go for box art but I'm sure I may place a cheeky order after seeing your build video as you are a great bad influence lol 😆

It was a similar thing with Star Wars, people who it was important to lost all perspective that it was a series of movies made for 12yo boys (later trilogy excepted), not for middle-aged men re-living their childhood. The same goes for Tamiya, they are toy cars not nostalgia machines.

Absolutely love tamiya, for same reasons you have stated..i dont buys these cars expecting them to be the top performers, it is the total experience, otherwise i wouldnt have any of the re-release cars...me the build is what does it, more pride in building it and then first run rather then RTR..

Hi Glen, I love everything about it, the colour, the body shell, the wheels, and especially the inboard shocks, F1 anyone, eh eh eh lol 😂 , even the mudguards , it looks like it really handles very well in the air for controlling it with the transmitter, it can really fly through the air with the greatest of ease, for anyone who can remember the movie that quote comes from. Niiiiiiiiiiice video Glen. 😎👍👍👍🇬🇧

What Tamiya means to me is the feeling of i did that. Nothing better then building any of these kits seeing it run and having that feeling i did that. My first Tamiya was the 1987 ClodBuster. Only negative on the Super Avante is the rims. I hope that is a hop-up for this car. I would love to see what the man who deigned this car his choice of rims were. I understand if it is true the rims and color were not his choice.

Hey Glenn, I love that Tamiya keep producing new items. I can’t believe it’s coming up on 40 years since I bought my first Tamiya RC car, and just this week I picked up my latest, an M07. This new car isn’t for me though. It’s never going to compete as a top line racer, and won’t be strong enough to be a good basher, so it wouldn’t have a place in my collection. Happy for those who love it though 👍🏻

I'd have to agree with you on some of the things you said in the video. People are entitled to their opinion, but putting someone down by calling them 'sheep or 'fanboys/fangirls' is it a bit too much, that's getting too personal. As for the car, I agree that the wheel colour isn't the best, especially if (like me) you're not likely to go full on box art ;) I wasn't too keen on the battery compartment and the way that you change the battery, but it'll be interesting to see how it works over time, and I'm sure someone will mod it to make it better. The more I see of the Super Avante the more I've grown to like it, I hated it at first, and I'll be clear that I don't care if they use the Avante name or call it the Super Sausage, I don't care so long as it's good, which it looks like it will be. The only thing that really puts me off about the TD4 is the price, it's too much for my liking, but I might still get one at a later date anyway. Damn you Tamiya!! I'd also agree with you with your comments on what Tamiya is about, they're not about racing, speed runs or whatever, they're about fun, interesting and often weird ideas, but that's what makes them Tamiya for me. Great video, really enjoyed it, and I gave it a 'thumbs up', obviously ;)

Hi Glenn, the tamiya KZbin channel had a live at 7am UK time and had several cars including two versions of the super avante in the studio and on the track!!, The biggest problem I have with the super avante like you is the battery tamiya have had several cars where you put the battery in and out from underneath (both off and on road) I think that's what they should of done. Also in the UK we have a huge problem getting parts for models and actual kit's to build!!!!!, I know the world is in the wood chipper at the moment but I think more time making current models and more spare parts for past and present car's would help RCing more than new releases. Steve. UK.

Then some, Asian guys came to the park with one of these and just blew my mind on how fast it seemed and the handling it displayed. Would love to have an OG Avanti one day… 🤙🤙

Why I follow Glenn and TamiyaLegends you ask? That’s because when he makes a rant video, he rants about all the ridiculous unnecessary ranting being thrown at a brand new untested model. Because when/if he has critique, he presents it in a well thought out and respectful way. Like an adult. But mainly of course I follow because of the cool cars and the undeniable love for the material that’s being conveyed in every single video Great work as always! I for one really like the look of the new model (though I agree about the wheels), and I can’t wait to get my hands on one!

According to the Tamiya USA stream you can use a shorty pack so you don’t have to unbolt it all and there are plastic parts to mount the battery sideways.

I personally like the way the car looks. I was a lil on the fence at first but definitely respected what they were doing. Some people don't like the fenders but to be honest with you I like them they remind me of a Lotus 7 or Caterham kit car. I got a feeling this has the potential to be quite a track weapon the cantilever suspension was bred from race cars.
