Tamiya is why I've been model building since the 1970s!😊 I'd go as far as saying Tamiya's higher quality standards led to a 'golden age' of plastic models in the 1980s & on!
@johnberry28774 ай бұрын
Same here. I completely agree. They set the standard for precision.

Nah they made junk model kits too, with low standards JUST like everyone else, they just evolved a bit faster perhaps.

@@Hjerte_Verke And last I noted being a bit faster sets the standard. Tamiya did that and has maintained that lead world wide ever since!

I have built plenty of Tamiya's kits in my time, and that 1/32 Spitfire VII is gorgeous, but they all have been good. The 1/48 military vehicles are great builds between more complicated projects, and the figures (minifigures as my grandson calls them) are exquisite. I build them , and my grandson sets up little dioramas with them. Just waiting for a 1/48 DUKW.

I agree that aircraft kit should include canopy mask and a pilot. Searching for aftermarket items can be frustrating , especially when you do find something , and they are out of stock. Saw yesterday ICM has another 1/48 HE 111 with crew, I hope the crew will be available as a separate kit. Really enjoyed your airfix ju87 unbox. I couldn't find 07114, only 07115 available, hope the canopies are the same, because I bought the B-1 mask. I assume all the B variants are similar same sprue from airfix.

I’m like you, I prefer to build any model in the same way. I worked at JLR and real world manufacturing is done in the same way with sub assemblies and then final assembly.
@barrywilliams2598 күн бұрын
You describe the 1/32 Spitfire as a ‘game changer’ and I agree it’s an amazing kit. But don’t forget two forerunners, the 1/32 Zero and 1/32 F16, these show a significant advance on previous kits and the Spit is a logical development in quality from these. Almost as good as the Spitfire. My only criticism of the Zero is the ‘working’ u/c, I built mine fixed.

The Tomcat was one of the most best modelling experiences I have had. I did not have to worry about fit. I could focus on the finish. Their 48th F-4 Phantom was an even better experience. Better than the Tomcat too.

The 1970s 1/12 car kits have stood the test of time. I built the original Jagermeister Porsche 934 and Ferrari 312T4, have built the rerelease of the 934 from a few years ago in the Vaillant colours (and Tamiya released the spray can cobalt green to go with it), and have the Martini 935 in the cupboard.

I have that Harrier kit. Got it a couple of years ago before read about all the issues with it. I guess I will put the unopened kit in a shadow box and mount it on the wall in the horror museum section. Tamiya is actually "Shake and Make". Nice review of Tamiya overall.
@Weetbix19694 ай бұрын
update the kits occasionally like the M113 still has a petrol engine in it, trim vane is wrong, no rear guard liners and left rear guard is still A0 shape, instructions are wrong for drivers display panel and the tracks are still the original T130 ones (and even wrong shape slightly for that) and have not been used widely since Mid Vietnam war.

Thought provoking Peter👍. Great to get my own thoughts going on why model and Tamiya. What magic can they do more I'm thinking when I hear that they haven't done any magic in recent years. A 1/48 P-40 in similar fashion to the bf-109G-6 would do me, desert air force of course😄 Oh and a closed cab 1/35th GMC truck

I love Tamiya kits but I don't like the way they simplify their smaller aircraft kits, but it does at least make them quick builds unless you want to improve them. I always find it strange that there are some people that say they won't build a Tamiya kit because they are too easy 😂 What because the parts actually fit like they are designed to? Sure I can make bad fitting kits fit with enough time, but that's not what I get enjoyment out of, so the better a kit fits, the better and I can spend that time adding extra detail etc. The Tamiya P-47 is from 2002 not 1994.

Hello Peter, great directors cut on Tamiya. And like you said Tamiya does have some issues. My primary issue is that they keep selling old duddy kits i.e. the Harrier. But on the flip side buying a older kit is great to restoring the mojo after struggling with some modern kits. Some people have commented on the cost of Tamiya kits, sure there is some validity to it. But the newer plane and armor kits are worth the price in terms of no aggravation. However, I have bought a couple of armor kits that I did feel didn't match the price for them specifically the La Clerc, M1, and Type 90 tanks. Still, Tamiya as a company seems to recognize the issues and have addressed them. Ultimately, Tamiya is my goto company and is a great mojo restorer. Now if only they can match the colors of the rattle cans paints to their bottle equivalents. Take care Peter and thank you for your content.

I can't wait for 'Doctor Decal and Mr. Hide,' the story of how one brave modelling analyst channels his Woodward and Bernstein to uncover the greatest modelling scandal in recent history, in which a central European model-making powerhouse attempts to drive its customers nuts by manufacturing dud decals and refusing to own up to the absolute debacle that results.
