Tamiya Tiny 380 motor 3s lipo Speedrun in RWD TT-02 35mph! (almost 60kph)

This was my attempt to see how fast I could get a Tamiya 380 motor powered car to go. I've used this Rwd converted TT-02 for a few different motor classes. I think I could squeeze a little more out of this one. I may have to revisit this idea and see if it'll do 40mph.
For those curious, I am waiting on a few parts for my other builds. I have been repairing mine and my son's small fleet of cars in the meantime. Stay tuned for my FF03 drag car, my Tamiya Group C Speedrun build, and a few more runs with this chassis before I decide to build it into something else...

Thats quick for brushed, surprisingly quick for a 380! I put a Tamiya Sport Tuned 540 that came with my Tamiya TT-02 Motul Autech GT-R into one of my WLToys a979B cars using the stock WLToys esc, and it's been great, but wanted something smaller for better handling. After trying 2030-7200kv (broke motor shaft after a year), and 380 sized 2838-3600 & 4700kv, & a 2845-5900kv Surpass Hobbies BL motors i really want to just go back to brushed with my four WLToys 1/18 a9x9 cars. I will definitely be looking to get some Tamiya 380s. I will be using the 3600kv in a vintage 1/5 Royal RC Honda Motorcycle and the 4700kv in a LC Racing EMB-1. But more to the point I also have been considering using the 3200kv in a rally TT-02 build and the 5900kv in a TT-02 street basher. I really got caught up in the "after-build I'm left with so many spare parts...why not just build another TT-02!" game and ended up with four TT-02s and a fith unbuilt!!!! Remembering the TT-02 came with a 380 motor mount, I've been searching interwebs for TT-02s with 380s... for a while...then your video popped up today! I want to thank you for posting! I'm definitely inspired sir! Thanx for the motivation and proof of concept! Also that's a GOOD looking build you did there, smooth running to.

You're very welcome! I have a few cars I've built that I felt I kinda had to build as I didn't see much info on them anywhere. I admit that some of them are pretty weird to try or don't work super well. That said, this car was built after one of the guys in the fb Tamiya Speedrun group wanted to have a friendly challenge using the smaller motor. ( @Charles Garnier RC ) I had built it at first with the 3s vxl brushless set up from the 1/16 Revo I turned into a Tow Mater crawler. I tried brushed 380 after. I will say that it works best on a 2wd set up. Mostly because trying use the brakes a lot on a 4wd is hard on the motors. I admit that my gearing was skewed towards top speed runs and that was also a big part of the problem. When I tried it in this 2wd converted test bed the motors were able to spin and and slow down much easier. This run won me the friendly competition so I stopped running this combo. I cannot comment on its longevity. I went for a silver can record after this (55.9mph on 4s) and and burnt 2 or 3 of those up. In another video I also went for a brushed motor 2s record (59mph) with this chassis after that. (Going more aerodynamic and ditching the diy foam/tape rear bumper was probably a good call too.) All that to say that 2wd is definitely easier on the motors while being a touch more difficult to control. I look forward to seeing your builds! And for the record I have found some 2860 and 2865 brushless motors that look interesting to try. Maybe that could help?
