In this video, we take you through the process of getting the little TT02 ready for its first run out. We'll show you how we prepared the car and share some tips and tricks we learned along the way. We also noticed some things to be aware of, so you can avoid any potential issues when building your own TT02.
It's worth noting that this build was made up of all used parts. We want to reassure our viewers that purchasing second-hand parts can be a great way to save money, as long as you check that everything is in good working order and the deal is right.
We want to say a massive thanks to our viewers for their support and encouragement. We hope you enjoy watching this video as much as we enjoyed making it. So sit back, relax, and let's see if our Tamiya TT02 First Run was an epic success or a total flop!
Really hope that your Enjoying the content guys , Sure does mean a lot that you coming along for the ride .
If you can why not hit the Subscribe button , Bang the notification bell and like the video its a massive help for a smaller channel like mine to get noticed in this big old world of KZbin :)

I've got 2 tt02 kits. The Porsche 911 '73 rsr and the 2018 mustang gt4. Both beautiful kits. As far as upgrades go, many are not needed for these kits. The Tamiya kit parts are very good. Many of the off-brand "upgrades" are garbage. All you need for great tt02 is: ball bearings, oil shocks and toss or glue the stock servo saver. The aluminum drive shaft is nice but not critical. The biggest problem with tt02 cars running on pavement or roads outdoors is ride height and the springs in the shocks being way too stiff. If running outdoors on imperfect surfaces, always build the kit with the high ride height option in the manual. The aftermarket bling blue steering assembly is often worse than stock for slop. Most of the slop and failure to re-center steering is the servo saver not the linkage. I've eliminated the stock servo saver on both my kits and the steering is perfect now with no other mods. (use a shorter arm so the servo has more leverage against the steering rack and re-centers properly.) Also, virtually all of the oil shocks I've tried have the same problem. The springs are way too stiff. The yeah racing kit is the worst. It comes with 5 sets of springs and all are fit for a car that probably weights twice as much. This produces tons of wheel hop on pavement and makes the suspension useless. I ground the inside of my springs down with a dremel until they were soft enough to allow the suspension and the oil dampers to work. The difference is amazing. The car sticks like glue to the road and doesn't hop at all. I softened mine until the suspension took about a half second or so to raise up from being fully compressed by hand. This allows the oil and rebound to actually work. It seems virtually all kits and aftermarket shocks come way too stiff. I video recorded my car from the side going full speed over pavement and then watched it back in slow motion and could see the suspension doing basically nothing. After modding the springs you can really see the suspension soaking up the bumps and the car just sails along. These are very fun kits and the price by today's standards is excellent. The hobbywing 1080 crawler esc is magic in these things also with a ton of programming options. For smooth steering, expo is your friend. About 50-55% is nice if your radio does it. Well, that's my knowledge dump on tt02. Hope someone finds it useful to make theirs run good. cheers.

@@ChriswithaCrc My pleasure. I've been messing with rc and real cars since the mid eighties. great hobbies but rc is definitely cheaper and cleaner.

Excellent info. I found that the steering EPA had to come right down even with the D15 under the driveshaft removed. There’s a lump of plastic on the front knuckles that basically just means the servo saver starts opening once the steering reaches a certain point. EPA set just inside that- steering recentres. Had endless problems with grip and fishtailing so I think throttle expo too so it doesn’t break traction from a standstill. MR

I had to learn my lesson with chinesium junk too. They make really cheap parts that look very nice, but just don’t hold up. As for running it brushed, there’s nothing wrong with that. Many big KZbinrs have unlimited funds to buy the best of everything, but you’re building to a budget like most of us watching. I quite enjoyed this video, as it shows the struggles we all face getting a new car running with what we have. Keep the good content coming!

Love this comment honestly , it was exactly the feedback I was looking for , grazias senior ! Yeah Chinese metal products flooded the market , and although they look great , the tolerance and function is really bad , made the car handle like a pig in a sports car ! . I'm glad the homegrown aspect has shined through with the video as I'm a hobbyist that is recording my hobby , and we all don't have buckets of money to throw at something , this car and most of my cars are built on budget . If it allows it great , if not adapt and overcome hey . And to be quite honest with you it's come out great and I got to feel how the car should have felt ..... Because it wasn't over powered I had a good idea something was up ! . Anyways thanks once again for all your help again . Stay safe buddy Chris 😎🤙🚀🤘

Great video, the old gear heads used to say "chrome won't get you home, but black will always bring you back". Kind of the same thing with aftermarket car parts. The car was running nice there in the end.

Hey there Peter , Yeah thought the colour was a good compromise I liked the black and white so grey it was . Good news on the TT02 mate I think you'll enjoy it . Make sure any upgrades are from a reputable model shop and not cheap and nasty eBay and Amazon stuff. Sure has made me learn quickly . Hope you have had a great break as well and the family is well . hi chris already spoken to my local model shop wheelspin models about it and they will steer me in the right direction and i am also thinking about gettinbg another radio system as i am not overly impressed with the dumbo rc again wheelspin showed me one today that i really like its 120 quid but its a 6 channel with 2 recivers in the box. got the hpi firestorm up and running fitted the new carb and all good apart from tuning the carb to optimum power etc. peter

There's nothing wrong with trial and error. I think that parking lot is a good place to test cars. In my experience some upgrades can result in making expensive or hard to get parts the weakest link. I prefer to have the cheapest easy to replace parts to be the weakest link in the chain. I don't like parting with what little money I earn. Good job again but I might go brushless 3s capable. I seem to get smoother power delivery with hobby wing. Take care.

Hey there 👋, Thanks once again for watching , yeah it was a learning curve on the start for sure . But as I've said I've raced tamiya before and felt well this can't be right . Glad I followed my gut feeling and went back to stock with it . Yeah parts on the tamiyas can fool you if you dont research I think . I'm more than happy with the brushed set up in it seems to move well for the money . Great little budget friendly set up with a decent punch . I was nice to find that middle ground between stock and upgrades . Thanks once again Stay safe Chris 🤙😎🚀
