Tamiya TT02 Speed Test Challenge Run #1 Brushed 18T

This is my first attempt at a top speed test for the ‪@poorboysrc‬ Tamiya TT01 / TT02 Speed Challenge 2023, many thanks to Fil for laying down the gauntlet again this year. There are now 2 classes in this competition, one for brushless 2 & 3S LiPo cars and the one I'm entering, brushed motors and 7.2v NiMh batteries.
Many thanks to my mate Rob ‪@robbrennanrc‬ for the help and filming of this speed run attempt. Hopefully I can return the favour when he gets his TT02 sorted for this years challenge!
My TT02 spec for this run:
18T Absima Eco Thrust brushed motor
Mtroniks Trident 18 brushed ESC

Hi Addam! Oh yeah, try a brushed run, this was a lot faster than I expected, you might get a surprise, too! It tracks straight as long as you don't touch the steering when it gets going! If you hit the steering it's hard to straighten up again, but I'm sure you have experienced that too! 30+ here we come - hopefully! Cheers dude!

@@MarkBryanRC well, you said your running 22/64 gearing, That's the smallest pinion you can use with the 64 tooth spur, for trying to go all out, get a 29 tooth pinion gear. Use your best NiMh pack (voltmeter helps here) with the most voltage, a few .123 volts per cell adds up. Some packs have, say, 1.128 volts per cell then others could have 1.346 volts per cell, this going back in the day when you could build your own pack with loose cells or buy pre matched race cells. A voltmeter is your friend to find the highest voltage....

Hi there Mark, a great start to the TT-01/TT-02 challenge. 29mph is an amazing result. It’s funny, I too managed to run an RC today and picked up a new subscriber. I was running my Tamiya Scania R620 and some delivery gentlemen were delivering next door, but loved the look of the RC, took some videos themselves and hit the subscribe button too, happy days 😊😊. That 18T motor certainly has some shove. May I suggest looking at the Tamiya plug, the wiring entering the plug looked a little frayed, perhaps replacing / re-soldering might reduce impedance and give an extra 1mph? Excellent run with Rob on the camera too, looking forward to seeing the 15T and Rob’s brushless class. Best wishes to you all 😊😊

That's quite impressive. I think that's awesome. That speed with a brushed motor is pretty good and NiMH battery. I have a Tamiya Super Hot Shot with a Tamiya Super stock RZ motor and using 13 tooth pinion and 2 S lipo battery I get consistent 44-45 km/h or in miles 27 mph. I'm pretty sure it could go faster maybe lightening the car somehow and maybe taking some grease out of the front and rear differentials not that the car and gearboxes are Run in I could remove some excess grease . That's 1 idea. Possibly going for lighter weight wheels and tyres too. Although I'm. using Schumacher wheels with pre glued tires and foams fats on back kind of an off-road tread design but not spiked more of a wavy line tread design and pin spike Schumacher wheels and tyres with foams on front a little narrower. Certainly removing the underside skid plate too. That part is damned useless and heave. Fair enough it protects the main chassis but it doesn't stiffen the chassis at all and it's heavy. Although weight is an issue, a heavy car will eventually get up to the same speed as a lighter car, but handling, acceleration and braking are all improved by having a lighter car. Hiya mate. Oh wow that's a result! Looking at your spec in the comments you haven't gone mad with gearing either so that motor must be quick. I'm just waiting on a 22t pinion and it's getting to the stage where I think it's been lost in the post! I'm also waiting for some nice weather. You know if I have time I'm tempted to get some brushless lipo speeds done and then put a brushed system in so I can be in both contests. Anyway great effort mate. Are you going to try upping the gearing or leave it at that?
