I remember it well, I was getting a car for Xmas and these two arrived in my local store a month or two before Xmas. For me there was no comparison, it had to be the WildOne. I now have a NIB ReRe which will be built on Christmas Day this year in memory of my late father with whom I built the original.

Got myself a job in a sports store as a 13 years old, saved, scrounged, bought a new Fox, plus a technigold and the swaybar hopup from day one. That combo totally trumphed the neighbourhood kids rc cars of the time. Only the 959 could surpass it. No issues whatsoever. A year later sold as a complete runner, with a wee bit less tire thread, on the hunt for faster thrills.

Love all you videos but i admit that this is now my favorite ! Montage, footage and Musical arrangement are great. From the first seconds of run we see immediately that the beautiful Wild one play in higher category than Hoppers. The Fox is my favorite Tamiya 2wd buggy: i dreamed of having one. Remember i read various french magazine reporting various results of national/regional race in this time and the Fox (with slightly improvements) was often among the best. Many thanks for sharing this !

I won races with my fox against other Foxes & and even R/C10's. The wild one scores huge points in the cool factor department, but the rear suspension was / is not as plush as the Fox..in my own opinion. Either way a true Tamiya fan will want to add both to the collection. Two of the best looking and most fun to drive they ever released

As a side note, I still have my best friends Fox from the 80s, it was hardly used compared to mine and i bought it off him in the 90s when his parents were cleaning out his cupboard 😁 Ps, i didn't think the video was too long, i could have watched another 5 mins of them going around the track easily!

Great video! I run both cars and they can easily run more power, I have a sports tuned in the wildone and a stock 540 in the novafox and often run them both on a 3s lipo, a good tip is to weigh them both down on the nose about 20 grams and lower them about 5mm each and they run even better. I just wish the wild one gear box was more stable. It would start to crackle and click due to wearing out of the bevel gears. The amount of packing I had to do in the summer of 87 and 88 was insane to keep that gearbox stable. The motor would get so hot it would sizzle.

Hmm...well. I am not sure to be honest. The rear shock pistons need smaller holes . I don't actually know what (if anything) is available as I have not looked into it. The kit shock pistons could even be solid for all I know. In that case I would mess with a thicker oil. Was running stock vintage Tamiya oil. The Fox is probably faster because of the shocks and It had ball-bearings on all four wheels and 2 in the diff as stock. I had the Wild One and It only had 2 ball-bearings in the diff but later on i added the 20.000 RPM Technigold motor and i won many races with my pals 😅😅 I even managed to outrun the almighty Big Wig in accelleration . @Santor-2 жыл бұрын
The Fox was superior. It came with full ball bearings, wild one did not. At the time, I considered either. After some thinking, decided against the cooler looking wild one, due to our friends constant issues with frog driveshafts, which WO shares. My Fox was powered by a technigold from day 1, never had a single part break on it. Was sold 1-2 years later for good money for the next faster car. When you build it, its surprising the extra quality they put into the Fox. Wild one is much simpler, gives you the opposite impression, more like a glorified hornet in construction.

Please help I have a new nova fox and I also own a vintage fox iamb noticing that I have a horrendous bump steer issue on the nova fox and I cannot tell where it is coming from or why this is happening. The build looks identical to the vintage and I realize there is some bump steer in the old fox but it is nothing like what’s happening on the nova Fox. There is also something odd in the fact that the left side front tire has I guess it’s positive camber when the top of the tire is leaning inward farther than the bottom of the tire. It leans in so much that if you rotate the tire it scrapes on what is now the new sway bar holding mechanism on the top of the upper arm. My uprights look identical to the old ones all of the parts look identical and I’ve even swapped parts between vintage and new and I still get the same results. The vehicle is almost undrivable. I hope I just don’t leave this as a shelf queen I am pretty sad about that fact.
@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC2 жыл бұрын
I don't have a Nova to compare...but having a quick look at the NovaFox manual...it looks a little different from the Fox. Looks like they got rid of that wonky servo saver extension and went with a different design. They want you to set the car up with some toe in to make up for the bump steer that is going to naturally happen due to the faulty 80's tech (relationship between the uprights/control arms/steering tie rod pickup points) that's not so great. My old Fox has very little bump steer when fully compressed...so I would say "maybe" the change in the steering servo saver on the Nova is slightly different? Re check things like servo height and knuckle (upright) ball end mounting points. You can also "unscrew" the upright ball sockets (to pretend a shim is in there) on both sides equally to see if the issue gets worse or better. If its worse then I am not sure how you would fix it without dropping the servo somehow. Try things like moving the mounting point on the upright to inner or outer holes as well (taking time to make sure static toe in is equal when done). This should effect Ackerman more than bump but worth a try. Also...re check the manual and make sure everything is correct. I know it's probably the 1st thing you did...but I have made huge mistakes (see my Turbo Scorpion build) when scrambling to get a car done. I would also suggest joining "Tamiya Club". Those dudes know EVERYTHING about these cars and are super friendly Good luck and let us know how you make out. If any of my buds own a NovaFox and can help Ulises out...please chime in!

@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC Thanks so much. I forgot this is a 1980's buggy. I did everything you stated. you are on the money. That rubber gasket thing was removed and they just use foam sponge tape now to cover the hole. I still have the rubber gasket thing and had one extra so I used it on the new NOVAFOX. I am going to lower the front end with shims in the oil shock and take out this crazy front-end height. Thanks so much.

Unreal little track for the vintage cars! Fox being my fav, ive found 2 piston shocks with 40 weight oil works pretty well. I may have to look at getting a Wild One down the track - was tempted to get the BlockHead, but funds didnt allow. I had my Fox running in Vintage class also.. Have a look one day, when you have a moment! kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKPMZmN7rMR8ask

tamiya makes the best body's but are junk cars just shelf queens 👸
@joedipietro2559 Жыл бұрын
No mate. Tamiya were actually really good 40 + years ago when there was only toy grade ready to run junk from radio shack or expensive $500+ Tamiya and Kyosho and a few others such as the MUGEN Bull Dog and even Losi was new back then plus Team associated and not many others. Compared to nowadays Tamiya is left behind and 40+ year old design technology nothing like modern cars of today running lipo batteries and brushless. Yeh it's true Tamiya were a little fragile but Tamiya is such a large company and lost their focus and direction in RC cars when all the other companies I named with the exception of MUGEN continued to progress.but even then those companies I mentioned were not plastic model companies but solely Radio control car companies. And nowadays Tamiya are left behind but I still love them and they can be improved on too.its just going to be really expensive compared to buying a RTR pre built car from say Traxxas or Armma or kyosho. Don't be so harsh on Tamiya they were great back in the old days

THE FOX IS JUST AN UPGRADE VERSION OF THE HOT SHOT .
@joedipietro2559 Жыл бұрын
What do you mean ? Hotshot is 4WD and Fox is 2WD. I own both of them and the only similarity is the monocoque chassis with an upper part and the radio box which houses the servo and receiver and in the 1980's there were 2 servos one for steering and one for mechanical speed controller. I have a vintage 1986 Fox and 2 new re release Hot Shot and Super Hot Shot which both use electronic speed control/ solid state not mechanical requiring a servo like in the old days. No similarity except the chassis design however even that can be debated due to 4WD versus 2WD.
