I had one back in 1983 cost me $250 Australian the servos and receiver used small balloons over them to water proof them that and a bit of silicone sealer and tie raps downside/problems very heavy, 1100 nicad batery on quick charge took 30 minutes and only got 5 min run time ah good times
@waynesworld16552 жыл бұрын
Yup the run time was brutal. I dug a rc track in the backyard and it didn’t even make a quarter of the track. Too heavy, meanwhile my cousin’s ultra light hornet did a few laps. 😑

Every video I watch on these makes me drool, whether it’s a re issue or an original. SRB is sand rail buggy. While not the best buggy chassis Tamiya made, it’s by far the coolest, and most legitimate to real sand buggies made from actual vw’s .. I’ll likely never get a chance to own one , but a feller can dream right. 😁

I always remember the Super Champ being the most expensive of all the SRBs and one of the most expensive Tamiya cars next to the 3 speeds the likes of the Blazin Blazer and Toyota Hilux
@Bobo56Bear4 жыл бұрын
My Younger brother got one of these 1983 $750 by the time all the parts / batteries, chargers and Tx Rx were bought lol ( kit box was $200? ), i asked for a 12 speed bike $190 in 1983 :) ... Brother knew what he was asking, $750 in 1983 dollars ouch ! (make up for it now though 2020 IFMAR 1/8 scale nitro's etc)

And some racing buggies the turbo ultima was my best car. Got back into the hobby. To me it’s funny ESC come stock now that was a big deal back in the day. But anyway got the WLTOYS 124019 . I call it purple hase not very original but hey I like it. Anyway a bit long I do love Tamiya though....

I got one of the first kits in California in 82 and it took days to assemble it with all the tiny screws! It was on par with Rough Riders that had been modded right out of the box. Once I put a Black motor in it began to shed parts and break fittings and the car slowly evolved to keep it together at the Track. Ditched the rear shock and ran duel shocks, dumped the metal Pan and built a fiber one and saved weight where I could with help from Joe at ProLine......I still have the car but the RC-10 came out and the next leap forward was made and the process repeated!

A guy who worked at a local hobby shop here in the quad cities was a designer or cad guy for Tamiya when these were developed. He said that the engineers and Tamiya brass used to visit Baja and research the buggies and beetles and trucks and took ideas from the real race cars and scaled them down into the models. The shock system was actually used by real Baja racers, however it was nitrogen in the tank and lines vs oil. Similar to modern monster truck shocks, but with 1 big tank for all the shocks. Just like the real race buggies, these were designed and built by a bunch of good ol boys who loved racing
