You can still have another. Just make sure your kids always have a copy of the will. And a stat declaration saying it is the last and final will. In Belgium we still have a Napoleontic legislation concerning inheritances: parents can not exclude their children: they are not allowed to give away let's say everything to an organisation taking care of stray cats, or give everything to one child and nothing to three others. If there are four children, normally they'll get 25 % each. Only recently, the law changed, and give some freedom to a certain extend: parents can decide to give a little bit less or more to some of their children. But still, this is only a limited percentage. Suppose the parents want to give less to son A than they want to give to B,C and D, A still will get more or less 20 % in stead of 25 %. The 5 % less will then be distributed equally between B, C and D. It is not possible to give son A let's say only 5, 10 or 15 %. If parents want to do that, they'll have to take decisions before they die. If they die before 3 years after those settlements, son A still can contest them. I guess each system has its merits and disadvantages. I still have to find out what will happen with my stuff, since I have no brothers anymore, have never been married don't have kids and am of course a bit suspcious about the famous golddigger trap. But in essence, I'll have to make sure to take decisions long before I die, because otherwise, a very large chunk will go to the Treasury Department.... A sad thought, no ?
