When the water cannot be lowered The homes must be built higher. Homes built at ground level will inevitably be flooded.

Had Tampa/St Pete taken a direct hit at high tide, damage would have been catastrophic. There is very little public awareness of these risks as documented by a doubling in home values in coastal FL since Covid. Fl should enact state legislation to require elevation and flood risk disclosures for all property sales in Florida. Zillow should enable buyers to set minimum elevation in search terms. People buy one story ramblers at 3' of elevation and expect the government to pump the water out?
@andresinsurriaga1082Ай бұрын
I'll tell those people how the water got in: Florida is a swamp, surrounded by an ocean, which was experiencing heavy rain, so the water was coming in from every direction, underneath, from above, and sideways. Best solution: leave Florida.

Moratorium on building is the answer. There is no place for water to percolate
@kentuckybowl-o-sticksАй бұрын
BINGO. As I just said above: Endless uncontrolled immigration = millions of new residences = nowhere for the water to go A moratorium on building with an open border is an impossibility. Climate change alarmists who are also in favor of uncontrolled immigration (i.e., most democrat voters) are idiots.

@bardnightingaleАй бұрын
Wait, I don't think people understand what the pump stations do. No matter where you live, if the water exceeds how much the drains can hold, you will still get water in your house. 2021, 70% of the basements in A city in WI flooded because we had 4 inches drop in an hour. (Which is NOTHING compared to what you guys got. This city would drown in a tropical storm. ). The houses that weren't affected were higher than the water level. The sheer amount of clean up Tampa has to do is literally catastrophic. I am so sorry for the damage you all received.
@starxlr7863Ай бұрын
People, there is nothing you can do against the ocean and the water surging onto land. You built where you were not supposed to all up and down the coastline. Only developers and city councils are to blame and should be held accountable for destroying what made this state and area beautiful. Pinellas county use to be one of the most beautiful anywhere until mass development started happening in the 80s and 90s and again over the least 10 years. It's a shame but it's reality. Do not rebuild again as its going to happen again!
