Tampa Street Racing in Ford GT

Street Racing footage from down in Tampa FL, On my way back to the hotel a supra talked me into a pull, which obviously didn't last very long, but did make for a long night. Wasn't expecting to be arrested, which is why I stopped. The Ford GT did not get towed, they allowed my passenger to drive it away. After 4 hours inside Pinellas County prision I posted my own bail and left sorta annoyed and exhausted. Having been pulled over and released for much worse I was surprised at the police reaction, but hell in their book even if I beat the ticket they know they ruined my night. It's not very rare. Ford GTs were pretty common where I lived. Even my dad owned one.

Outside of affluent neighbourhoods I would guess it being quite a rare sight with only just north of 4000 made, and only a handfull have today, 10 years later clocked 20000 miles. It rates quite similarly to cars like the Opel Speedster in europe, and it goes years between each time you sse those. In the US its somewhat rarer than the Lotus Elise, and how many do you see of those in a year?

My favorite type of videos in the car world.......racers v police, with footage from BOTH sides. That ending was fucking classic..... Sure does suck, Rob isn't crazy and wild anymore, so these are most likely relics of the past. Best cop moments will always be my most favorite series.

I live in Tampa FL used to be out there every weekend around this time of the video. Didn't need a pace car they hardly ever went after anyone at that time. All they did was when it got way over crowded they would just send a few marked cars or heli in with lights on to clear the crowds even though people were racing. Also the cop was behind the on ramp no one hardly ever comes that way besides normal traffic if they hanged out with the large group 500+ cars. It was a known route/hangout from 4th street > Gandy bridge > Courtney campbell causeway > Bayside Bride (where this happened) then full circle (besides the dead end streets groups would race on). It was different counties and basically the police would just "push" the crowd to a different city and let the other county police deal with it. Police even use to close down one bridge on Gandy bridge and allow them to drag race and turn the other bridge in to directional 1 lane each bridge while they drag racing would happen. Just bad timing on Robs part. Last I checked 4th street has no parking signs after certain hours but people fish there. Courtney campbell causeway was the biggest issue with large groups miles long so they put up a curb in the center of the road preventing people to easily park without hassle. I go by once in awhile and still see a decent size group at Gandy after 15 years on the weekends. Keep in mind people been racing in that area for 50+ years. Half the police patrolling would tell stories how they used to do it.

You guy realize when this video was shot, the annual Supra meet is in this same area and cops get them plenty of Supra highway action, and at the time of his Video there was maybe 1-2 Ford GT's in the city, they was brand new at the time. If I recall correctly, Rob got out of this ticket because the police evidence was inconclusive, Rob pleaded and got off with a reckless ticket.

Were you racing the Cobra on Gandy bridge? Popular place for the local racers. Used to frequent it when I was a kid. Remember it fondly, had a friend with a 500 hp 347 Stroker Mustang that I drove on it Getting a little too old to do that stuff now, but I still love speed, the roar of the V-8 when you stand on with, the feel of the shifter slam into 2nd gear and the rear end comes loose for a brief moment. you do have to take into consideration that there are only 4 models of the Ford GT 3 of which are made in Britain and all were designed for French Races. Even though Ferrari is Italian.. The french and italians have similar styles. Ford GT is technically an American engineered European car.. i can see his confusion... PS the Henessey Venom is made from a Lotus.

"they look like their racing" You need proof officer just sayin brake lights at the peak of a highway over pass that you cant see over doesn't mean anything, Hell they could be breaking for some fuckin old hags going 40 in a 65 (personal experience). But rob didn't ask the right questions when he got pulled over which helped them prove their suspicion of him racing. Another thing lining up all in a clump of cars does not help you at all especially if their performance cars it screams racing.

This, ladies and gents', is the reason why when (or if) you ever find yourself behind the wheel of a supercar and are caught in the middle of a reckless, freeway act, you don't stop for police... Press that gas pedal down to the floor and wave goodbye... At least that's what I'd do. Just hope you have a decent amount of change laying around in the event that you do end up getting arrested and booked or if you are forced to make an insurance claim upon your priceless, now totaled, supercar.
