I was raised in Miami, my dad, grandpa and I used to fish all up and down the Tamiami Trail back in the 1960s, we were in that Cooperstown many times buying plastic worms and shiners, seen a lot of gators and snakes, caught a lot of bass and brim, this film brought back a lot of great memories, thank you so much for putting it on here

@@conniecrawford5231 you failed to mention the dope was walking her little dog right along the edge of a pond with no critical thinking skills such as this is not smart and lacks common sense. The large gator was well known in the pond. The gator went for the dopes dog and she tried to save the dog. She falls a the gator drags her into the water by her leg.

Family has deep history here. Born and raised many of them my father moved there in the early 50s (old Byrd Rd in Miami). Talked about walking in the Glades decades ago when the Glades were way way more extensive and the development non-existent in southern Miami-Dade. Said he’d discovered a random sign of early human explorers (old huts and such) and once found old railroad tracks probably offshoot of Flagler’s line into the Keys. So Loop Road use to be seldom visited. In the early 2000s I’d spend days exploring and see no one. Pretty sure the explosion of the internet, KZbin and social media changed all that. It’s also way more polluted and trashed thanks to all the new visitors.

I've been involved in more than one incident with an alligator on the road over the course of my life so far, or actually one during my life that I remember as a child (though even that occurred after the family I'd been part of until shortly before then came to an end) and the other that I remember was well into this ultimate hell that has replaced my life for about 14 years, only maybe three years ago. Of course, there was another incident four or five years ago when my car broke down and while I was walking along the shoulder of the highway, there was a fairly young maybe five foot long alligator in the ditch right beside me, but several feet down. I remember seeing huge ones basking on the side of a "bridge" which is just basically a glorified culvert with pavement around it in the nearest city with a Best Buy, Sam's Club, etc. back when I worked there around 15 years ago.

Awesome video Jay! Old 41 through the Glades has not changed a whole lot over the years, kind of like taking US 1 down through Key Largo, Islamorada and Marathon on the way to Key west with the old souvenir shops. I have not driven 41 through the Glades in years, most people take the old "Alligator Alley"/ I-75 that runs quite a bit to the north. This was fun to watch, quite nostalgic! Glad to see Dave Shealy's Skunk Ape Museum is still around, I remember going to that place back in the '90s. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane. I grew up in Miami and used to take my dad's Chevy Blazer on the Loop Road all the time (day and night) and since pythons weren't yet a serious problem I would see all sorts of small mammals... racoons, otters, deer and wild boar as well as an incredible variety birds.

Around 2012 my girlfriend and I were driving from Miami to Marco Island to go see Patrice Oneal perform standup. We took US41 and on our way there we had to hit the brakes because a huge Florida Panther was crossing the road. It basically jumped across the entire 2 lanes and ran into some brush. It was incredible and terrifying all at the same time. Be careful and make sure your car is totally fueled up before making that drive. Also, driving back at night there was an insane amount of deer at the edge of the road.

I didn't realize panthers were beige colored. I always pictured a big black cat. I just learned that Florida Panther's are a just species of North American mountain lions, like cougars and pumas? And Florida panthers do look alot like the California Mountain Lions. Mountain lions can be found from Canada to the tip of South America. The greatest range of any mammal in the America's. Sad with such a big range that they are endangered. However, Black Panther's are also known as black coated leopards in Africa and Asia, while America's black panthers are actually black coated jaguars and are found in Central and South America. I think The Carolina Panther's should change the color of their mascot. a Black Panther is misleading because they don't have them there. The Florida Panthers use a beige colored mascot in their logo. Which is a more accurate depiction of a their native panther. Just some fun facts about Panthers that I just learned.

I live 7 miles from the southern part of the Everglades. The real Everglades. Used to be pristine. Back in the 70's my dad had us all over the glades, including an eight day canoe trip, down Buttonwood Canal thru to Whitewater Bay, Shark River, Turner River not necessarily in that order. Park went to crap when the World Heritage people took it over. For shame. Saw things that don't exist today. Now it's over run with python and boa constrictor snakes. Somebody built a resort in the Bahamas right on our Flamingo birds nesting site. They don't exist either . 😐

Hi Jay, I just found your channel, and I just want to tell you that I find it amazing. I just moved to Florida for the second time. 3 months ago, and I haven't seen any alligators in Saint Petersburg as of yet. I went to a park and I saw tiny little babies for them. My friend took me just about 3 weeks ago. I would love to go over where you are with your girlfriend 1 day and see how big they really are. I did go to gatoland about 13 years ago, it was amazing. Nice footage. I will definitely subscribe to your channel. Be safe out there.🦎🦎🦎🦎🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊🐢🐢🐢🐢🐢❤️🤍💙🫶🗽🇺🇸

@@TampaJay 😢. Can you please make a call to Gatorland or Chris from Florida‘s Wildest. Maybe they can pick him up or at least remove the tape. He will starve otherwise. Thanks 🙏

Thank You Tampa Jay for this trip down memory lane. You could do a Value Jet Vlog. It went down not far from where you were at. I believe you passe the Memorial. A tragic story for sure. I love all the Old Florida roadside stops. That was my thing in the day. Thank You for sharing..
