I live in Tampere and worked for years for a company that had offices in the Finlayson area. About 20 years ago, many of the buildings there underwent a total renovation because the city wanted to attract IT companies there. They installed super-fast internet connections and built everything that modern companies need, such as elevators, security systems, sprinklers, ventilation systems, absolutely everything. They also had to remove asbestos, which meant that they had to tear down and rebuilt quite a lot of the insides of the buildings. The red-brick facades of the buildings were kept as they historically were, as were some of the spaces that are open to the general public. But the indoor spaces that are used by IT companies are totally modern, with linoleum floors and glass partitions and such. In some points of the video you can see the logos of the companies that now work there, for example the Fujitsu logo is visible at 8:30. The Finlayson area is nowadays filled with high-tech companies, but you wouldn't know it just by looking at it from the outside. The renovation was done so well that they have managed to hide most of the modern stuff so that you don't see it unless you are looking for it.

Nice video. You definitely have a calming voice and the video is well informed. I'll be there next week for a couple days. This will conclude my Nordic tour all 5. I would love to become a professional traveler not sure how to do it. Travel is my passion along with music. I eventually may use this channel for travel videos but I'm not great at editing so I just speak about music and movies. Oh and I always wanted to live in Switzerland myself because I love the Alps lol can't afford to though. I do have some Swiss heritage. Cheers and happy travels. I'm a little bummed the amusement park won't be open. lol I probably will check out the tower with the revolving restaurant as well.

Thank you 😊 I hope you will enjoy your trip to Tampere! I love Finland and am always delighted to be there! Switzerland is a fantastic place. It is extremely expensive though, that is very true. 😅 where else have you been in Nordic countries, which impressed you the most? I really liked Stockholm 🥰 Swiss heritage that is interesting, from what part of Switzerland if I may ask? Hiking here is truly stunning especially Appenzell region that is my favourite.
@retro_wanderluster99622 жыл бұрын
@@ATWKate thanks I'll try it'll probably rain all 3 cities Stockholm Helsinki and Tampere has rain in the forecast has had rain for past 2 weeks lol. I am going with a group don't really like that as I prefer solo traveling. This will be my first time in Stockholm although I've been to Gothenburg and Malmo already. I've been to Stavanger and Oslo in Norway Reykjavik in Iceland and Copenhagen Denmark as well. I really like the Nordics because hockey and hard rock and metal I like haha. I'm not exactly sure which region, I'd have to ask my cousin she studies family history. I do know like Norway Switzerland is very expensive number 1 in the world. I'd love to hike there. I did Preikestolen in Norway sat right on the edge and signed up for a couple more but they were cancelled due to rain as in Norway their hikes can be very dangerous as the Norwegian government refused to put safety rails in to protect the natural beauty of the landscape. I feel happier in Europe than I do in the States like it's my true home haha. I just can't seem to find a way to stay there longer-term one month was my longest excursion.

While the city of Tampere only has a population of little less than 250k, the surrounding urban area has a population of 350k, which is only 100k less than the capital city Tallinn of our neighboring Estonia. Tampere region is the most developing area of Finland and has seen the most growth during the past decade or two. It is definitely a nice smaller city with lots of beautiful parks and even the longest esplanade in all Nordic countries. With its tall Näsinneula observation tower and Särkänniemi amusement park, Tampere makes itself the best family vacation destination in all of Finland (if you’re traveling in the summer, that is).
