Perfect travel lens is the 28-200mm from Tamron. The 28-300mm only makes sense if you're squeezing in some wildlife and are going to get a lot of sun.

So this is a “South Africa “ lens

Tamron is really good at these lengthy Zoom lenses. I’ve got the Tamron 70-200 F2.8 G2 lens and it is a totally awesome lens. Thirty years ago Tamron was definitely second class but these days their lenses are magnificent and much cheaper than camera brand company’s lenses too. Cheers

Id be curious to hear how it compares from 50-300 to the new Tamron...

I had the old Tamrom 28-300 on my D700 long ago. It was surprisingly good, optically, but AF was slow and noisy back then. Things have changed since then of course :)

How do you compare this lens with the 50-300 that Tamron just launched? Which is better in terms of image quality? Thanks! :)

Glad to see more of these superzoom lenses like this Tamron 28-300 and the Nikon 28-400 on the market. More choices.

what lens did you use for this video

Have you tried it on an ASPC camera? it would be 42-450 on my A6700.
@DaveTCSTV4 ай бұрын
Hi, I haven't tried it on a crop sensor however it will work really well. Crop sensors use the center of the lens, the sweet spot, so the edge to edge sharpness is better than on a full frame.

I am not feeling the need to trade in my Tamron 28-200 for this new offering. Tamron is offering us a lot of choice to find that "perfect" travel zoom!

This one's a stop slower for 1.5 times more zoom.

tamron makes a lot of different zoom lenses, but how many superzooms do they have in their portfolio? thank you for the video, though!

Tamron more than any other manufacturer, they've always being doing superzooms they made a billion for dslr too

Tamron 28-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Tamron 28-300mm F/4-7.1 Tamron 50-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Tamron 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 honorable mention: Tamron 35-150mm F/2-2.8 (kind of a "superzoom" targeting working pros, e.g. wedding photographers, who need speed and bokeh)

I love my Tamron 35-150mm F/2-2.8.

I prefer 28-200 model for the very fast aperture. But this has USB-C connection and seems built a bit more nicely. Hope they do the 28-200 but with 24-mm and same apertures.
@gbm15655 ай бұрын
I remember one tamron optic designer says if they add 24mm to super zoom, it has to double the weight to get similar optic performance as 28-200 f2.8, which make superzoom no sense. There goal is to keep below 600g to meet the requirement.
@richardyuen57865 ай бұрын
When I travel I really need a 24mm on the wide end. 24-200 or 24-300.

If I shoot for fun and contest and maybe gig if there is any, would you guys suggest me to get Zf with 28-400mm f4-8 or A7RV with Tamron 28-300mm f4-7.1?
@gbm15655 ай бұрын
Too be honest they both designed by Tamron , I suspect that they make it to 300 instead of 400 to avoid direct competition.

I'll keep my stop faster 28-200 f2.8-f5.6 and maybe get the 200-600.

I don't get why people get a bee in their bonnet about 7.1 I've used slow lenses on m43 in England in the winter and never had a problem You'll still get subject separation at 300mm and it doesn't have to be a summer's day to use it. Sony full frame cameras can easily handle higher iso and look at the size of it.
@MasticinaAkicta5 ай бұрын
Not as CHONKY as I expected. Seems they kept the size, WIDE that is, relative small. The price of course 4-7.1 So eh. Well you want better, you going to get bigger, heavier, and more expensive. I don't see this as a perfect lens, but I see the use. And yes, it will get you the shot so... win win?
@LeoSavantt5 ай бұрын
Not that good wide open and very dark at the long end. Jack of all trades, master of none?
@MasticinaAkicta5 ай бұрын
Well, they can only do so much for the price they probably put on it. That is the trouble right with lenses that do so much, they become master of none.

Tamron managed to release the same lens they made for DSLRs from 10yrs ago but make it worst. Bravo!

No, the new 28-300 is a brand-new optical formula. Much different from the old DSLR lens. and also much different from the new 28-200 as well. As evident from the lens elements / groups diagrams. Both mirrorless lenses fully exploit the much shorter flange distance (to the sensor) of the mirrorless era, therefore fully exploiting corresponding optical performance benefits unavailable in the DSLR era wide-zoom lenses.
