I'm never sure why people bring up the X100 series cameras in the context of the RX100 series or the Canon G7X. The X100 series cameras are significantly larger and heavier than these sub compacts. It's just in a different category, in my mind. All that said, absolutely great video!!!

Yeah totally. I think there just aren't many compelling alternatives in the RX100 size/sensor, so that's the next best thing. Ricoh GR is another of course.

As someone who has owned almost every RX100 model, and now has an X100F and an X100vi on pre-order? Sure, the RX100 is smaller, lighter, and more pocketable, and offers fair image quality. However, the X100 series offers noticeable improvements to image quality, is a significantly more fun camera to use, is a significantly better looking camera to the point of almost being a fashion accessory, and is still very carryable as a daily camera - mine never leaves my neckstrap. Sure, it's not truly "pocketable" - but it doesn't need to be, and I'm willing to deal with that for the advantages it brings.

I have a full frame Sony A7 but I use my RX100 v and vii for all my vacation photos. The v is excellent but I broke down and bought the vii for the 200mm equivalent reach. It is very versatile and has the high end Sony sensor from their high end full frame, but having said that, I think the v has a better result in many situations. They are small enough to take both with me and use the same batteries. For an amateur they cost a lot but so does everything one needs/wants for full frame cameras too. At some point I’ll sell my full frame gear, just don’t feel like hauling it around anymore.

I bought the RX100vii instead of another lens because I figured the 24-200 was smarter money spent. As I started to use the RX100 it quickly became apparent to me that I hated lugging around my full frame cameras/lenses. Fearing Sony dropping the line I actually bought a second one that my local store got in. I think it's more than likely the camera pendulum will swing back towards smaller is better....especially for social media purposes. In spite of any limitations the RX line is fantastic. Cheers

Thanks. Lovely video… and a lovely, relaxed, authentic presentation style (which really matters). I had two Rx100s.. one first generation…. and an Rx100 iv (which I bought because this model could connect directly to a certain gimbal … ). I found I was using the Rx100 iv as a backup camera to my Sony A7iii and Panasonic LUMIX GX8. It was particularly useful for wide angle shots. But when the pandemic hit… and the UK economy started to go into free fall, I thought I would take pre-emptive action… and I sold them both. I miss them! I really do. I never took a bad shot with either of them. And I always had one with me. Thanks again for the video. Really well-presented!

I wanted to get into concert photography and was debating between the RX100VA vs. the MkVII. I used to own the VA version, but I tried renting out the MkVII for a concert and was blown away by how good the low light still was! Even at 200mm, f4.5, the shots were pretty good, given the sensor size.

I bought years ago my RX100M3 for around 550 euros (import) when the local retail price was around 850 euros. I find it a quality product for the footage but the camera I find it quite fragile and I am always protecting the camera in transport. So for me not a camera to put in your pocket, I think it won't survive at all! Just came back from vacation. I had with me: iPhone 14 Pro, Canon PowerShot SX70HS Bridge, DJI Pocket 2 and this RX100M3. I used this RX100M3 for 4 pictures ... In other words, there was no need for this camera together with my other equipment. But as a only camera with you you keep the feeling like you are a photographer! But let's be real: I'm more and more impressed what you can do with a mobile and it is always with you and is much easier to handle than a Sony DCS RX100M3 with a steep learning menu structure and a ridiculous way of storing the files you need on the SD card. That is really absurd how Sony did and why? So it was a very good camera in the past years. I think I would buy now a small Canon version. I'm impressed how fast my newly bought (but introduced in 2019 I think) Canon PowerShot SX70HS bridge camera works in handling and focusing as a vacation photographer! Anyway nice video, kept me busy! 😀

As a full frame Nikon z8 shooter, I love my RX100 for travelling. I own the RX100va and the RX100m7. Sometimes I only take the m7, sometimes I take the va or both, depends on the occasion. @rst33079Ай бұрын
The Sony M7 has the advantage that she has an optical zoom lens from 24-200mm and a bigger sensor. It also has the advantages on high speed, shooting, like sports or moving objects. The iPhone has the advantage of a lot of software improvements and AI, that can improve The picture. With the M7 you need more knowledge about photography and you have to learn how to use it properly. the iPhone is created for easy-going and sometimes the iPhone photos are better because of all its computing power. So if you want to go with the M7, you have to invest more time for learning it. And then you will be able to make better pictures..

Managing dynamic range in each complicated lighting situation is crucial skill if you have RX100...

I can run different apps that simulate anything from a disposable camera and a Polaroid up to classic rangefinder and MF cameras. They even have an app now that looks like the top of a Fuji camera with all the mode dials giving you full manual control. It also has all the Fuji film simulations like Classic Chrome, Classic Neg etc...and you can make your own recipes in the app. I also get a 13mm-120mm focal range and I can share anything I want right from my phone. On top of that, I can shoot 4k 60P video in ProRes with excellent IBIS. I can also connect my phone directly to any number of portable printers I have and then shoot and print photos anywhere and give them to people. Wrong a photographer should carry the camera that they happy with, regardless of brand, model etc.

What do you think this camera is 🤪
@Tony-c7z9t4 ай бұрын
@@HarrisonTong the point is you state that every photographer should carry this camera, I'm just stating that you are wrong to say that, I carry the equipment that I am happy with and happy using, but if you want to donate your camera, I would try it, but not necessarily carry it, I might even bin it, perhaps you should have rephrased to something like "the camera that you would always carry", all photographers have different pov's on equipment, your statement indicates that unless they follow your rules, they will never be successful, bit elitist of you. Sit and think about what you are going to say before you say it. But that's just my pov. Maybe different to yours, but equally valid.

@@Tony-c7z9t sorry next time I’ll say “This is the camera you should always carry with you, if you like it, if you can afford it, if it suits your lifestyle, if you have the muscle capability to lift it, if you have enough vision to see the screen” wouldn’t want to be too elitist and assume everything right!!!!

The photos you showed with the little Sony are really good-looking, but I'd like to see a head-to-head comparison with a modern iPhone in a variety of conditions. Maybe do that when the 16 Pro is out at the end of September?

I never liked the usability of Sony cameras. It’s just not user friendly for me compared to other manufacturers like Fuji or Nikon.

@@HarrisonTong I had the a6000 and thought it took good pictures I didn’t enjoy the experience. The UI is off for me. Maybe it has changed.

@@HarrisonTong In my case it's menu options with 100 of options, in the case of this camera, no dials, weird use of the ring for changing settings which can unintentionally change when you don't want them, and lack of image tuning options. Also quick menu is within the menu? there's no button or anything for favorites directly?
