I've watched this video 5 times already an I'm still not convinced which one is best for video on a gimbal. I'm more inclined for the Tamron just because it doesn't have so much distortion and vinieting

So I have the original Tamron 28-75mm G1. Aside from not being a fan of the insane lens flaring in directly sunlight, I was never extremely happy with any of the shots I got with that lens. They were fine and it was definitely a better option than the GMaster price wise, but I felt like it lacked a litlle... magic? I don't know how to articulate that more clearly.

Fair and honest review - much appreciated! I think a lot of people are deciding between these two. Do you need the weather sealing + extra button of the Tamron, or do you prefer the size + extra $100 of the Sigma? Having owned the V1-Tamron since it was released, I never quite liked the size and hand-feel. However I’d love if they updated the 17-28 with the new features!

Sigma is great. except one shortcome, the image quality around minimal focus distance (which you did not test). I do a lot food photography. I notice it immediately the first time I use it for a shoot. It is softer and quite noticable. That is the reason I sold it and bought tamron. But honestly I like everything else better from sigma. Smaller, lighter and zoom ring has better feel.

you referring to the wide or telephoto end? I typically use the wide due to higher magnification ratio, can’t say I’ve used 70mm much for that.

I bought the sigma before knowing random was an option. I love the photo quality and have noticed it’s pretty perfect for street photography and even decent at macro for subjects like flowers and eyes. I will say the tamron seems sharper however I will say if you’re careful or primarily shoot on a tripod the sigma is razor sharp. All your photos will come out sharp but if you want the same level as the tamron you can get it you just have to set up for it I think.

I think that's just the nature of sigma, even the 24-70 had that issue. I think the correction is to turn down the responsiveness and the locking of the AF, and then it'll behave better.

I'm using a7c and want a compact size lens. So I'm going to buy a sigma. But I'm worried about the anti-spinning part. I'm going to take pictures in clubs and mountains. How about comparing the anti-spinning part to Tamron? And would you still recommend a sigma?

@@오뜨-h9x on the first question, I'm confused of the "anti spinning", but overall, I can recommend the sigma, a fantastic lens, still have it, dont use it as often because of so many other lenses I have, but the sigma is solid. The holster I have is custom made, I made it myself using kydex, which is commonly used in the gun industry. You can research about kydex diy stuff, and it's quite simple and works very well. That said, I do use a slightly different hoster style setup these days, but it's still a holster 😁

Sigma was worried because I heard that sealing is weaker than Tamron. I need protection from liquid and dust because I'm thinking of shooting photos and documentaries at techno clubs and mountains. @@savnac I strictly used it at 2.8, if you are just uploading your photos online the sharpness is perfectly fine at 70mm , I got some very beautiful sharp portraits from it even at 70 so its just fine. If you are like printing these photos and stuff then thats a tad more questionable but its a fantastic lense, ill gladly trade off that tiny bit of sharpness at 70mm for the tiny lightweight body, its lovely to carry around

pretty much all my sharpness tests are with the A7iii, most people use a 24mp camera of some sort, appeals to most. moving on, I will be moving tests to 33mp to match the A7iv. 70-200ii, tamron 70-180, 35-150 comparisons will probably start next month? trying to finish up A7iv content before moving back to lens comparisons, still have a few outstanding
