I found this lens to have a major focussing flaw.. back focus when shooting moving objects in low light situations. I shoot dance competitions and when the dancers are near the audience the focus finds the audience faces and goes from the dancers. Using lock on tracking wide with sticky 0 and it still jumps on my A9 with v6 update. A firmware update needed for sure!

Thanks! I used a slightly modified version of Cine 4 and a custom LUT. If you’re interested in more samples with the lens, I recently put out another test video out a few days ago.

How about the minimum focus distance. Have you found it to be limiting compared to the 24-70?

I do a lot of product shots and at times, yes the minimum focus distance can be limiting. It’s funny you bring it up, because I was using the 24-70 a lot today and forgot how much closer I could get with it. That said, I often don’t mind too much as I can either adjust the zoom or move the tripod back. It’s most noticeable fully zoomed in, but even bringing it back to 135 helps a lot.

Do you find you miss that extra reach from the 180 or even from your typical 70-200 as it’s 50mm shorter?

For me, I don’t really notice or appreciate the reach from 150-180 as much compared to 70 vs 150. Even when I had the 70-180, I mostly was using it between 85-150, so I don’t miss the extra reach from 150-180.

Did you put the RS2 in super smooth mode? I did (and used the extra lens support) and it works really well!

Haven’t tried it with super zoom or the additional support. I’m always going for quick setup and tear down from a bag, but I might try that to see how much better it can be. It’s not unless I’m at 100+ that I notice the gimbal be a little more susceptible to bumps and faster movement. Overall, it’s been a great setup.

Hey. I have shot several wedding with this combo and it works well. It needs to be tightened very well, but aside from that it works well. If you want a complete video showcasing its performance, watch my latest video showing it on the gimbal at night.

How did you keep the f stop the same ? Mine changes everytime I go from 35 to 150mm automatically

You need to set it to f2.8, and then it will stay at f2.8 throughout. I also shoot all manual in a custom video mode if that somehow helps. Let me know if that works for you.

This is actually 24-105 on crop body, but 2 stops faster ... shoot concert yesterday on 24-105 on S35. It's a go to lens for such events. Now I want this lens with FX3 ;). I wonder what focus breathing it got.

@@diennkguyen Maybe I just sentenced it wrong. I mean It's on full frame as 24-105 on S35 body (which is ~36-160). So having this tamron on FF is amazing for video. Much better than 24-105 on S35, cause you got better low light performance and much shallowed DoF.
