I shoot portraits primarily, and after recently realizing that I was grabbing my Samyang 85mm F1.2 or Sigma 135 F1.8 any time I wanted a super shallow DOF and that any time I reached for my RF 70-200 F2.8L I was shooting between F4 and F8 anyways (studio work with strobes, typically) so I sold the RF 70-200 and replaced it with this Tamron ($300 used). It sounds crazy but I’m every bit as happy with this little Tamron lens as I was with the RF 70-200 F2.8L… This thing is a phenomenal value, a severely underrated option for portraits and events.

Christopher, I want to thank you for helping me choose my new lens, by 2022 this one has somehow been discontinued (can't see why) and I'm so glad I watched the review before, the lens fits my needs perfectly and its image quality is simply amazing, I was impressed by the results and keeping in mind how budget friendly the lens is I really can't ask for more.

Tamron and Sigma stepped up their quality control, these new lenses are very competitive with the ones from the camera manufacturers! I own a Tamron 100-400 and I love it, the AF is fast, it’s built like a tank and yeah, the collar comes separately at an absurd price, but at least it has the possibility unlike the Sigma counterpart. I’ll probably be getting a 24-70 G2, it seems a very good value for the price

mgljimcmgl depends on what you shoot, that's a crop sensor, so you're shooitng 105-315mm. So great focal length for outdoors, even shooting the moon! However you won't use this indoors. But it's A very sharp lens, obviously f4 in full frame would be awesome, it's still a great lens, this is the only lens I kept, I sold my other 2, for if and when I wanted a Z body.
@coltoncyr22834 жыл бұрын
mgljimcmgl no problems, yes for those fast shutter speeds this f4 is more like a f 5.6 on crop sensor, a 2.8 would be more beneficial but much heavier and way more expensive. If it's nice and sunny, this lens will be great, and you can hand hold all day long! If you have strong hands like me, can even shoot one handed lol it's so light

Updating my earlier comment: The lens was good out of box, but I did notice that the autofocus was a bit slow (not really a problem for most situations). With the latest firmware update, however, that's not the case anymore. Autofocus is now as fast as you'd expect from the 70-200 class.

Viewfinder priority is NOT the best way to go for stills photography! What happens is that when selected the "best" possible stabilisation is on when looking through the viewfinder. This could potentially lead to jumps or smears when taking pictures and the stabilisation trying to correct. If you select the other extreme looking through the viewfinder you won't see much stabilisation but the main "best" stabilisation kicks in only when taking a picture to insure the best possible results
@christopherfrost6 жыл бұрын
That wasn't what I found at all. When shooting with both Tamron and Sigma lenses, in my tests they performed considerably better with viewfinder priority image stabilization in the final results - giving sharper images at slower shutter speeds.
