It`s strange that I have this lens in my collection and it`s nowhere near as inferior as you describe. If anyone is on a budget and wants a good telephoto, go and buy it. It`s a great piece of kit. No telephoto lens is as good as a prime (fixed focal length) lens, so don`t expect it to be.

@@mebindevasia3055 I actually saw two of 'em, one with Nikon F mount, another with Canon EF mount. either way, you'll need to still spend 20-30 bucks on an adapter depending on various mounts you find, or maybe even cheaper

I use this lens on sony A58, which has bild in stabilization. I bought it for as little as 40 bucks and I think the image quality is really good. when I saw this video I didnt expect much from this lens, but I was kindly surprised when I saw the results. for that amount of money you get a really good lens.

For me, its a great lens. it cost almost nothing, compared to anything thats out there in the 70-300 range. its true that its not a good lens for high quality pictures, but it does however make for a great learning tool. At least, for me. The awkward handing is also just something you need to get used too, but the fact that its dirt cheap says it all all. Go for it if you are looking for a fun dirt cheap lens, leave it if you want crispy clean high quality images.

I bought this lens back in 2010 as part of a kit with my EOS 50D and I've always hated it and rarely use it. In the last week I have been giving it a second chance, deciding to use it to photography garden birds. After having it set up on a tripod directed out of the window for a week, I don't have any usable bird photos. I think it's time to let it go onto eBay. I have this lens on my Pentax K-1. The mount is metal, not plastic and zoom/focus rings are silky smooth. The lens focuses accurately at all focal lengths and is super-sharp considering it's a budget superzoom. Images are colourful and contrasty. The only issue is purple fringing on high contrast subjects, but this can easily be fixed in PP and it shows up only when shooting certain subjects. I paid only £30, which I think is a bargain for what it does. I have no issues using this as my main telephoto zoom for walk-around photography, I think I must have a good copy!

Tamron 70-300 my review: Cheap lens which handles ok , its not a great lens but for a budget it does its job Tips: when shooting at the tele end try using live live view and magnification to get right focus. The lens is not that good in terms of speed and accurate focus but you will get used to it I tend to use manual focus just to be sure I get it right In terms of response it is slow you will focus way faster in manual, especially in the macro mode Some say they had problems with chromatic aberration I did not notice that but still I have the lens for a day but one thing I can tell you is that at f4 images tend to be a bit soft but if you go to f5.6 or 8 you get sharp photos Hope this is helpful for more questions leave a comment

For 60 quid, it sounds about right. Its cheap and cheerful - that's about all you can say for it. I had a Nikon lens like this, Cost bugger all. Lots of fun but there was no way I could get a really sharp image out of it. Keep it at f8 and you'll be orrite :-)

You have no idea how GRATEFUL I am for your video. I've got the same lens and I am still a beginner when it comes to SLR photography. I tried so many settings and all of my photos look weird as hell and unsharp when I zoom in (the photos even look terrible when I use a tripod). I really thought I was too stupid to photograph with my SLR camera, which is a Canon EOS 600d btw. But now I know the problem could be the lens. Sometimes I get pretty sharp photos but it's nerve-wrecking to get there, for when I shoot like 100 photos I can only use like 5 of them and I have to delete the rest, for they look terrible. I am saving up for a Sigma 100 - 400 mm lens now and when I got this one I will sell this crappy Tamron lens on ebay. I have enough of it -.-

The most important think is the picture quality. For me, this lens is great. If you want to sharper your picture, just using filter sharp on photoshop. And the result even much better.

It doesn't quite work like that - if a lens is soft, then no editing software can replace lost detail, although adding sharpness can seem to help a tiny bit.

I used mine for a few years and was never impressed with it for the exact same reasons Chris is pointing out. Soft, purple edges and unusable at any aperture below f11. Back then on a body which could do ISO1600 in a pinch and with lots of noise, I ended up hating this lens with a vengeance. Got rid of it in 2017 I believe and couldn't even find a buyer until I'd had it up for 6 months or so. What a huge difference with my current Pentax 55-300mm PLM lens, also a budget lens but my, a world of difference!

Apparently Ritz Camera's store Quantaray brand has this lens rebranded for them. The branding printing is different and the zoom ring has different texture, but the focus ring is identically knurled and the macro switch is in the exact same spot, and it looks like it's labeled for engaging the same quirky macro. There's one locally to me for sale for $50. I was considering it as a longer zoom compared to the Tamron 80-210 I already have, but I've managed to get some halfway decent pictures of airplanes and helicopters in flight with the 80-210, this thing looks like it would be worse. I guess if I needed inexpensive macro I'd go for it but so far that hasn't been what I've been interested in.

Agree about everything said, the auto focus is just random, the zoom is awful and sticky and it feels Christmas cracker cheap, which it almost is now. The sharpness was missed out almost entirely, macro was better but still lacking. However, if purple is your favourite colour you are in for a treat. 😁👌

This is the lens I'm looking to replace with the 16-300mm. I need something which covers the 18-300 range and has a much faster and accurate focus. SayHeIsOne if you want a great macro lens for cheap. check out the tokina 100mm 2.8 macro. great for portraits and great for macro. this lens cost 360-400 usd. check out some reviews on the tokina.

You could be doing any one of a thousand things wrong. Ask a friend who's good at photography to come and to help you, and make sure you're doing all the normal things you need to get a sharp image

I had both versions. Old and new. First,if any of this lenses is bad it is the new(er) model with VC. It is solid untill 200 mm and the rest,you can forget about. So you are carrying all that extra bling for nothing. Size doesnt matter in this case,so does not VC. Old lens is optically great really. Colors are beautifull,and sharpness on 300 mm,yes,that is what we all want is superb on my copy. Meeasurable with my friends nikkor 70 300 AFP in some situations. Not AF. Sharpness,bokeh,color rendition,all is great. AF is slow and terrible,but if you know a thing or two about zonal focusing,it is perfectly fine. Modern lenses do sometimes hunt for focus also. So you CANT go wrong with this lens. I would avoid new tamron lenses alltogether. Sigma too. They just to be great in the old days. Today they are expensive,and quality is horrible,wit non existing support. I only use NIKON lenses for a reason. They die hard. And i mean really,really hard. Sigmas and tamrons are inconsistent,and mechanically inferior in any way in my humble 30 year experience. I bought a 18 200 vc tamron,and it was great for first 3 months. New in store,around 200 E. After 3 months,visible loss of contrast,sharpness,and color rendition. Never dropped it,never kicked id anywhere. So all things considered,this old tamron lens is a gem and a steal. Many older sigmas too.... New ? I only buy NIKON,cause i know that is immortall stuff....

I bought this lens second hand for €50,= For that money i cant complain at all, off coarse the cheaply build lens has some problems. But it still pay's me money with every product shot i make. In the macro mode the lens is decently sharp enough for internet webshops. And for that reason i intended to buy it, and it performs reasonably well. Make sure you shoot tethered. For portrait this lens is a little sluggish. altough you can do it. just stay on a tripod. and focus on the eyes then move back to your composition.

Nikon, I had this lens, everything he says in the video is true... if you can get the 70-300 vc version will probably be better. im buying the Nikon 70-200 2.8 this week

Nikon is better by far but at a cost, However you do get better quality build and images, Better overall performer, Tamron's are good bang for buck though and ideal for people on a budget, for what you pay it is decent enough.

Proper use of a tripod will enable you to get sharp pictures with any lens.

If you get the Nikon version it should work. If you're using a DX camera then bear in mind that 28mm is not a very wide angle to be going from. I don't know much about Nikon though
