This lens, new to me, is just amazing. It is mad sharp at 300mm...and the image stabilisation is the best Ive ever used......I have, in the last 2 years had Sigma 150-500, 70-300 Canon IS, and a lovely Canon Mk 1100-400 L...Sold them all as they didnt quite hold everything together...I can tell that this lens is a keeper. I love it!

@@acerider2899 do you stop down for sharp images because for me wide open its fairly blurry so I have to stop down to 5.6 and shoot from 400-800 iso to get decent images. however when I get out to 300mm its a hit or mis on image quality. I use a canon 6D.

Just bought and tested that lens following your recommendations and it is absolutely brilliant. Hard to imagine i ever could do without. One slight issue for videomakers is the stabilizer which is rock solid but skips every few seconds to reset. Not an issue for photography but only to be used on a tripod for video work. Still, truly awesome lens for the price.

I have used this on both my 7100, and my 750 (Nikon). After the normal calibration on both cameras, this lens is superb, with the emphasis on SUPERB! The VC (vibration control/compensation) is beyond anything on the market.I use it for events (low light and ample, without flash, portraits, wildlife, street photography, and landscapes. Tamron has set the benchmark for all other makers. Tamron should be in your bag.

@@NIMAGEProduction Yeah but the lens itself is 10 Year old ! If you want to buy one better go with the Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS Nano USM II at 300mm is pin sharp and colourful and has no chromatic abberation like the Tamron do ! Tamron is sharp from 70-200 mm from 200-300mm loses some sharpness and become more chromatic !

I had the Tamron on a D800 for around 3 years until I gave it away to an upcoming photo pro in my family :) IMO this is one of the best price/quality performers on the market. The OS is probably the most effective one I´ve ever had. Though it makes some noise. Tamron has really stepped up in terms of build and image quality and kept reasonible prices.

Just bought this lens on Chris's recommendation and i've got to say he is absolutely spot on. I love this lens and have up to now been very happy with the pictures I have taken with It. So far the only fault I can find with It is the weight! Boy is this lens heavy both on the camera and in the bag. However this is a small price to pay. I'm a Canon and MFT (Olympus/Panasonic) user, I bought this lens to have a smaller option when "Canoning" and to replace my very good but heavy 24-105 f/4L and 300mm F/2.8 L. I also use my Canon EF lenses on my MFT cameras with an AF adapter with fantastic results but when Canon, the body+lenses+battery grip is close to 6kg, too heavy to carry all day long. I bought this Tamron and his little brother 17-50mm 2.8 and it reduced the weight nearly by 2. The picture qualities of both lenses are not as good as the L but still great and the confort of use is amazing. VC on Tamron out performs the Canon IS, but my L are MKI, may be better on MKII but the Tamron is perfect, especially compared to the Sigma OS that's just OK. On top of that, the Tamron is a 140-600 on MFT, what's great. It's sad to say but I let my L lenses sleep in my bag and use exclusively the Tamron as the ratio quality-versatility-portability is really excellent even compare to L lenses and for a fraction of the cost.

Had this lens, and returned to Canon 55-250 STM which is of similar quality, a lot cheaper, and LIGHTER, turned out that I never have it with me because of it's weight. Only worthwhile if you have a fullFrame body. Eventually I ended up also replacing all of them with Tamron 16-300 which is quiet acceptable and adds up as an all-in-one.

Why are you saying you think my copy was defective? Your comment isn't clear. Because it missed AF a little at 300mm? Well, I'm not the only reviewer to have found some minor AF issues - Bryan over at the-digital-picture also did. It could be a slight fault in the lens, but even if it is, Tamron should take better care on quality control.

I had one on my Sony A580, so when I upgraded to a Canon 5D mk2 I bought another. However the 5D is full frame and there's a problem. It's very soft around the edges at 300mm, even at F11 on the tripod! The reason is simple, full frame cameras looks at a greater surface area of the glass elements. A cropped sensor doesn't see these weak areas, so they're not an issue in the same way. Lesson - be careful when buying for full-frame... you may need to spend a lot to sort the problem.

Thanks to your reviews, I preferred this over Canon equivalent for my Canon 750D. As against your experience, it was way cheaper here than the Canon. It's a great lens - particularly with APSC Canons. I and my friend (who has a 70D) even used it indoors without artificial lighting and on an overcast day, yesterday (my daughter's 1st birthday) and it worked great. We bumped up the ISO to 800 and still no noise whatsoever. I don't know how to add a picture into a KZbin comment or I would have posted a sample. Thanks a lot for your insightful review.

+Oskar Mahendra How does the autofocus do with photographing birds in flight? Is it fast enough? Im most likely selling my tamron ld for this vc version but need to know if autofocus is fast enough.

+N Z in my own opinion the autofocus is not the best feature in this lense. However, I think it is good enough for wildlife photography. In conclusion the af is fine I guess. Let's see what Christ comment about it

Unsure if i should get the 70-300 now, and maybe an 85mm 1.8 in a year or so etc etc, or just go all out now and buy the Tamron 70-200 2.8 and be done with it.

The Tamron is a rare bargain. At 300 euros a sharp telephoto with great VC. The lens with the Sony a-mount doesn't have vibration control because sony a-mount cameras have image sensors with vibration control. Keep in mind in case you want to use it with sony a-mount adapters on mirrorless cameras. I think it is the same situation with all Tamron and Sigma a-mount lenses.

max factor The new Canon 70-300 is fantastic but has at least double the price. Lenses are full of compromises between price, size, weight, max aperture size, sharpness, quality of construction, stabilization, distortion, vignetting, lens flaring. (There are also factors like Macro distance , autofocus speed, Coma, water resistance, lens filter thread diameter but are secondary) Above all is the price. It is is quite easy to construct a manual focus lens with great specifications at a very high price. Distinctive examples of this are the Leica M mount lenses and the ZEISS Otus. Sigma and Tamron mostly produce cheaper equivalent full frame lenses of the Canon Nikon with a few inferior characteristics that may aren't too important by most photographers. Only lately with the Signa art series lens, Canon and Nikon have been attacked by superior lenses. Tamron has a tradition of superzoom lenses that the rest manufacturers lack. The Tamron 70-300 is one of the few exceptions of a sharp telephoto full frame lens at a low price.

Achilleas Labrou now matter how sharp is the new canon 70-300, i believe it can not be sharper than canon 70-300 L . right?

I'm currently viewing all youtube reviews of this lens. I thought your presentation was excellent and appreciated the comprehensive "actual" shots taken at various settings. Much better than plain verbal comments on IQ. I found the constant music really distracting especially when you were demonstrating the noises the lens could make. I know it's a modern trend to have music in every video but I hate it. Dave

I purchased this lens for a trip 4 months ago, and found it to be lacking. With an adapter, it wouldn't focus accurately on my Sony A6000. On my Canon 6D, the out of focus blur was really busy and nervous. Above 200mm the image quality was mediocre at best. I bought it so I wouldn't have to bring my 70-200 2.8 on trips.
