90% of people that viewed my profile or messaged me first were girls. I tried contacting a few guys. Some replied politely at first, but they wouldn't say much after a few days. Anyways, I only used the app last year and uninstalled it.

Tandem is practically a dating app. Sure there are people who genuinely wants to practice languages but even many of them ended up in having a love-like relationship. Lets be honest: If your real intention is ONLY practicing a language, you could also talk to the same sex. You can talk about food, travelling, music, thoughts on life, cultural differences, places which are worth seeing in your language partner’s country or what you recommend to see in your own country. You can ask them what it’s like to live in their country. It’s just a small amount of things which can be asked. And also don’t ask many personal questions because it scares some people away as many people have this need to protect their privacy and there are some people who just don’t like to be asked about such things and they might block you after some time or right away. I am speaking about my own experience there. Sticking to these rules worked in my case so maybe in your case it will also help. Good luck with finding some good match! I am sure that you will find in no time some kind and respectful language partner:)

Similar to tinder, it works well if you are a woman. I tried the app using a male and a fake woman profile. In the first case you have to do all the efforts for a useful conversation while in the second case you become a lot of messages (althaugh many are shit). Holy shit it should't be like a Dating App!
