I’m trying regular “gorilla glue” and chipping it away to get a chipped and bubbly flaking effect. Gorilla glue expands and bubbles but drys hard and can be flaked off leaving a bread-like texture with lots of holes, yet a strong resin structure. I’m Using this step right after the dremeling just before the rust coloring.
@BananaBabys3 жыл бұрын
Update: it worked. Also worked really well for exposed seat foam on my micro Toyota seats. Shipping away the shiny layer in holes seems to have the best effect. Doesn’t really work good on flat surfaces. Better in holes.

Do you seal it all at the end
@DrywFiltiarn4 жыл бұрын
How to best seal the vinegar/steelwool true rust? As from what I understand it also easily washes away with water, which would be a bit of an issue when you would drive through mud or waterpools. Just clearcoat wouldn’t do it I think as that would probably turn it glossy and take away from the realism.
@TandemCTelevision4 жыл бұрын
I use a matte clear to seal it. A really cool method is to matte clear the entire panel/body and use the hairspray or salt method under a clear coat. What I mean is 1. create the rusty panel/body 2. matte clear it 3. use hairspray/salt 4. spray gloss over hairspray/salt 5. chip gloss away in a weathered pattern. Everything is sealed and makes for a really nice weathered effect. Hope this helps.

What would be an alternate for the hair spray
@TandemCTelevision4 жыл бұрын
The salt method is another way of creating a chipped paint look. Basically you use salt as a masking material, there are many good video tutorials. I like hairspray because it's a bit more controllable.

What's the point of the hair spray?

The hairspray is what allows the paint to chip. They are chipping mediums that companies like Vallejo make, but hairspray is cheaper and usually laying around the house.
