Tip: don't buy a sim card at Telcel near the ADO station when you come to Cancun downtown from the airport or from another town. They'll scam you into buying a sim card for 25 dollars. Instead, if you know some Spanish, walk for 5 minutes in the palacio municipal direction and enter a Telcel store there. The cost will be as little as 100 pesos or 5 dollars

I just came back from a 5 night 6 day stay at Villas del Palmar all inclusive, best getaway trip i've had in a long time. I paid $100 for round trip shuttle from airport to resort and the shuttle was a 2023 Chevy Suburban, 30 min drive, very worth it. Food was top gourment. amazing Cancún

$100 is a lot but for a SUV sounds reasonable. Cars are $25-40 for 30 min drive.

One thing I would add to your tips about credit cards is to make sure they charge your card in pesos. When I have been in Mexico recently, they have offered to charge my card in USD, but at an inflated exchange rate that was around 10% more than the actual exchange rate.

Went to cancun, playa, tulum, isla mujeres, and cozumel twice last year ! We just went in December and had no problems at all! We usually stay 13 days, we had a blast! It was very safe that the ocean was magnificent ! Going back soon

Jordan, thank you for the Snap Car Rental recommendation. We rented a mid-size car from them the week before Christmas. Price was reasonable and all insurance was included in the quote we received. The rental car made it easy and flexible for us to visit Chichen Itza, Merida, Progreso, and to load up on groceries from Chedraui.

Your tips are spot on! I go several times a year to Cancun airport and still sometimes get caught out by people that say "this is where the bus stops" (it isn't) or "the next ADO bus is in two hours" etc. No need to buy ticket in advance either. You can often buy just before you get on the bus.

08:48 really? I've lived in Cancun for 3 years and for me the WORST weather is from December to February like right now. It's cold and rainy lol the best months for me are march to July. August to November is the hurricane season 😁but i guess many people can't bear the summer heat so maybe they'd prefer the winter months 😊

I literally got back from Cancun today and there was only one place that actually enforced the no smoking rules. Every single place we went to was non-smoking during the week we were there, and only one place told us we couldn’t.

CAUTION FOR SMOKERS ! Due to very recent changes to the law (two week ago) You can only smoke in your own home. You cannot go outside a restaurant and spark one up nor can you walk along a sidewalk puffing on a ciggie. I'm not sure of all the restrictions or possible tourist exemptions but it will be best to check with your hotel or landlord.

some other option is to rent a house for holidays, it can be way cheaper than staying in a hotel with the same amenities. There are places like puerto aventuras, puerto morelos or Tulum where you can have a great deal doing that. obviously this is for the ones with bigger families or more frequent travelers

Great video. Yes I tell people that they will have to "run the gauntlet" at the Cancun airport. I just smile and laugh and even the high pressure sales people can see how funny it is, and laugh along with me. I was obviously getting scammed at Budget car rental even though I had booked online so I told them to go scam someone else and hired a taxi for our 4 hour trip. Had a great trip chatting with the driver. We took the bus back a few days later which was a much cheaper and simpler option.

FOR CAR RENTALS IN CANCUN: highly discourage from renting at one those hotel car rental places. They may seem cheap ($15/day) but end up taking in unnecessary fees like you explained. I actually had really good experience from a company called Yes Cancún Car rental (?) and they picked me up in a shuttle and there was no added surprises. Promise this is not sponsored, people can look them up online!

All true. Have your airport transportation planned. I recommend All Inclusive resorts. Food and Alcohol will crush you with inflated prices. I did spend $30 on the sunscreen 😞

We were in Cancun two years ago for two weeks. We decided to opt-out of all inclusive food and alcohol. That was a bad move. Average price for lunch for two $100, dinner $200 x 14 days. That was pricey. But, Cancun had great world-class restaurants with entertainment.

Great info. We always go all inclusive at one of the resorts including transfers. I don't have to worry about transports, AND, they usually sell you beer on the bus for alot cheaper than the stands outside the airport. The walk through the mine field of scammers at the airport is quick and painless if you just don't engage and head outside where our transfer is clearly marked with our rep. waiting with our names on his or her list....We found the collective to be the cheapest if we ventured off resort and into a ruins or shopping trip. Excellent videos ....very informative.

There is a check point entering the hotel zone,the cops hustled me out of $20, the held my kids phone to make sure they didnt record them. I gave him $20, but almost spoiled my trip. In regards to car rental, Budget in Playa del Carmen (Plaza Paraíso) is running a scam. The google reviews also have many same comments about different scams. My experience and a couple others, You reserve a car and when you get there they don’t have the car available or the reservation but they just happened to have more expensive cars available for rent. Others mentioned hidden fees, being double charged, etc.

Hey Jordan! Love this video. Don't miss your former co-host at all. I was the victim of an attempted federales shakedown in Playa Del Carmen. Two cops followed my friend and I down an alley by the beach late at night. They hopped out of their SUV, opened the back doors and told my friend and I to get in the back. I told him we were leaving and yelled at my friend who was being harassed by the other cop, to follow me and don't say a word. I wasn't sure if we were going to get tased or arrested, but they let us walk away without doing anything. It was an obvious attempt at a shakedown. Phew!

The scams, fines, gotchas. . .why bother?! Maybe a few decades ago, but probably not anymore. I just want to relax if I go for a trip, and not have to be so vigilant and careful about everything. I will say, my last trip in 2019, I booked an Airbnb room in a condo in Puerto Morelos, and the owners, who lived there, offered to pick me up at the CUN airport for an additional $400 MXN. After watching this video, I sure am glad she did, and that I took her up on it.

Wow! This information is awesome! Even the small restaurants in los angeles, calif. will charge a credit card transaction fee! Some have posted cash only! The credit cards such as Discover charge big fees to the businesses! That is partly why we get cash back and airline/hotel points!

I spent several months in Francisco Uh May and Macario Gomez near Tulum. you can just take the collectivo bus beside the Aki grocery store in Tulum to get to it if you don't have a car. i loved it. They have great places in the villages.

car rental tip - haggle in person at the airport and do not reserve a car online. Many car rental salesman will steer you or even force you into buying over priced insurance for the car before renting to you if you reserve online. They have limited inventory on cars and they work on commission so why would they want to do extra work for no money on an online sale. Haggle in person and it's a win/win AND you avoid paying unnecessary insurance.

Another tip- don't change your money at the airport money changing booth- terrible exchange rate. There are machines at the airport for the banks with a better rate . I leave for Cancun in 17 days! Phish at Moon Palace woo hoo!

Forget to mention what do car rental companies are doing? When I was there, they charged an extra day to my CC but I called the CC company and told them I can prove I wasn’t late returning car because I had the receipt stamped with time I dropped the car plus I told them if I was late as they claimed, I would have missed my flight! I’ll consider your rental car recommendation, although I must say that Cancun and Riviera Maya is overrated. There are much better beaches in Mexico.
