Living anywhere Foreign, wherein a foreign language is spoken and everything is so different, is a very hard adjustment! And, doesn't everyone hate where they live, besides also loving their home? I commend you and Maddie for having learned to speak Spanish as well as you apparently have. Spanish only has about 18 tenses, and some ones which are not even present in English which complicates the difficulty, of course, learning the language. Mexico does not seem to be ADA-friendly, either.

Things in Mexico have changed so much and you might be in denial if you think that crazy amounts of tourism isn’t part of the problem. I was just there last week and my family complains they have to go out of our Pueblo to buy household items due to tourism. Everything is turning into a tourist spot. Turning true gems to tourism hot spots😢. Mexico is beautiful but not for everyone and not cheap.

I don't know which Area or which Pueblo you're speaking of but I noticed all kinds of Tourist related issues even in Mexico City when I was there recently. Certain parts didn't even feel like the City I knew and more like Sets for people to take selfies. Plus a lot of hotels and Airbnb's were occupied.

I’m 1/2 Peruvian and have spent time there. Peru has the same issues as Mexico but magnified. And I still love it. Latin American people are generally hardworking, warm and welcoming. My husband and I are years away from retirement but know we won’t be able to comfortably retire in the United States, and we really don’t want to stay in the United States after seeing how the elderly middle class struggles here. Plus, U.S. cities have become dangerous, so the safety we once felt here is going away. I’m used to walking around in dangerous areas of Lima and know what it’s like to be hyper vigilant of my environment. Recently, I feel like this in U.S. cities. Yes, things are still “safer” in the U.S. but I feel like things are rapidly declining. If we’re going to feel unsafe, I’d rather be in a more affordable country with warm, hardworking people.

Peru has a LOT of CRIME. Lima always has since the "migraciones" in the late 60s.. but a LOT worse because of the Venezuelans. Ever heard of "Tren de Aragua?" They even have Colombian gangs now in Arequipa. My mom is from Callao. In Bellavista in the 70s and 80s I didn't feel afraid. Now, dont leave your house after 7-8pm! Unless you live in Miraflores, San Isidro, La Molina, La Punta, forget it. You have to live with "pitucos" or AYOR. Mexico now has desperate ppl from all over Latin America. Now with the Cartels in Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, Sonora, Veracruz, Zacatecas, Michocan, Guerrero, things can be VERY dangerous, especially for gringos. You have to live like in Queretero, or Riviera Maya where things seem very safe as per these videos. Even Merida and Campeche are now having crime problems bc of all of the foreigners who have moved there. In Mexico, if you have money, live with the "fifis/fresas" or you're on your own. Mexicans in el DF are getting sick of all the bougie, gringo, digital nomads, pushing up the prices. Resentment has begun. Just like in Costa Rica. US Blue State cities are getting VERY bad because of the DEMOCRATS. Ppl are leaving those places There are small towns in many places in the South with that are affordable, even in Northern and Central Florida.

Things have changed. Seems like everyone is now moving to Texas, and it's become expensive and crime has increased. So incredibly heartbreaking. Guess there's nowhere to go now.

I agree with you, I always wonder why gringos want to move to Mexico or other countries. The United States is one of the countries everyone wants to live in. I met a gringo from Wisconsin and she lives in Puerto Vallarta and looks and feels so happy to live there. Maybe it's the climate that they love. I love my country, in Mexico I don't have to live on too much medication, I don't go shopping so often because we don't have good sales and it's a good reason not to fill your house with so many stuff. I don't get bore because there is a pueblo mágico close to where I live. I hardly hear about people commiting suicide and even though there are carters I haven't heard of shootings in schools or supermarkets. Our happiness depends on us.

we had to move back to the usa, we did all the research and one thing didnt know was about the insurance not accepting pre existing, we so didnt want to chance a hospital stay that could break us, further down the line, we were there for 2 years and then covid hit and we moved back, we have since been back for a visit and i was shocked to see the increase in prices, we were living in puerto vallarta...everything was triple the price, so it was a good call, even though we qualified for perm resident at the age of 55, which totally showed we had enough money, dont think we would have lasted our entire old age with what we had for retirement after what covid did to the prices in mexico. we miss mexico and our life there, but needed to have the security of health insurance.

If you want a safe place where you can walk around at any time of the day or night, you want to stay clear of St. Louis, Baltimore, Detroit, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Kansas City, Cleveland, Memphis, Chicago, ... you get the idea.

After two years in Morelia, Michoacan- The noise isn't that bad. Sometimes, the Mariachis. Don't see many mosquitoes in Morelia. Electronics ARE more expensive, but also include sales tax in price. Public bathrooms cost 5 pesos. Only had Montezuma's Revenge once, in Mexico City. Trash IS placed outside, but always bagged. The wiring situation is bizarre. The streets and sidewalks ARE treacherous/dangerous. Haven't had any problems with finding foods. Haven't seen a hurricane yet, but one big earthquake out of the west coast. My wife is Mexican, so it makes learning Spanish easier. I haven't been blamed for any price raises yet, but we don't live in an expat area. I found medical care cheaper than insurance premiums, paying out of pocket. I've had surgery for an aneurysm. The street dog situation is true, but I've never seen a cat. Weird... Haven't had any internet or cable issues. Maybe we've just been lucky? (Tel-mex stinks) I've never been the victim of any crime, or police corruption. I know it happens, but I haven't seen any. We do live in a nice area. My wife is a Mexican citizen, so citizenship is being fast tracked. I've never been made to feel unwelcome in Mexico. All in all, it's been a wonderful experience in Mexico 🇲🇽

I was disabled for a couple of years because I was waiting for a surgery that was unaffordable at a private hospital. I got to experience first hand how much Mexico is not made for disabled people. There are not enough ramps or facilities for people with a disability, even in nice places like malls or office buildings. I was kicked out of the lobby at my previous job because there weren’t any chairs and I sat on the planter. I was waiting for a friend who offered to give me a ride home and it was painful to stand with the crutches for 40 minutes. I had to take a cab home instead. Public transportation is just impossible to use if you are in crutches or a wheelchair. Authorities just don’t care and they don’t do anything about it. One good thing is I got a very expensive orthopedic surgery completely for free with the best doctors and the best equipment. I had to wait for two years, though.

Helpful video for snowbirds who spent a week in a Mexican beach resort last winter and are besotted by the prospect of living in Mexico. The great majority of KZbin videos paint a positive picture of life in Mexico, perhaps because most creators search out the good and rarely experience the bad. Non of the caveats mentioned by you are insurmountable, but it takes real effort to overcome some of them. Potential expats should make a few trial runs, staying in different places for a month or so and find out if they have half a chance of being happy in Mexico. Most US citizens are probably better off vacationing in Mexico rather than moving there.

As someone from México I’d say most of your problems would be solved by not living in the center of the cities. They are usually the most insecure and older (less developed) areas. This applies to every single place in Mexico. If you live in Querétaro I’d suggest you move Jurica or Juriquilla where conditions are better. In general, most cities in Mexico are better and nicer the father you go from the center.

My sister literally fell out of the bathroom in the hotel we were staying in. There was a one foot high step between the bathroom and the main living area. . Some bathroom floors are raised to accommodate the plumbing, but it’s easy to forget it’s there.

I think this video may help reduce the amount of people who are seeking refuge in Mexico...not to be selfish or sound inhospitable but there is little work and a lot of people, and if many foreigners move to Mexico, this will make things hard for the average Mexican. The possibility of getting horrible food poisoning alone is enough for me not to want to go to Mexico. You don't know if the food is able to poison you, so it's best to avoid the food in Mexico like the plague if you don't want to be sick for weeks, let alone months. In regards to safety, you should not drive into Mexico or anywhere within Mexico, because chances are, something terrible is almost guaranteed to happen. This is why I wouldn't even bother trying to go to places like Ciudad Juarez, Torreon, Culiacan, Nogales, Tijuana, Reynosa, Zamora, Uruapan, Acapulco, Ciudad Obregon, Zacatecas, Rosarito, Durango, Chihuahua, the list goes on.

This article sure paves a hard road for other Americans who might just love everything about mx. I arrived in MX in 2006 when the rate of exchange was roughly 10 pesos to 1 USD. I have never lost track of the fact that when I am in another country I am GUEST and the local peoples are HOST! The very last thing I will do is try and rearrange their customs, culture, safety standards, noise, or the price or the quality of goods purchased. When I crossed the Border I left all my constitutional rights behind me! If anyone is contemplating a move to another country, might I suggest picking up a copy of the book, "The Ugly American" by William Lederer and Eugene Burdick. These days I find that the thoughts of this 90 year-old are mostly in Spanish. But the thing I take most seriously is that, "Yo soy un puro Mexicano y un Embajaor de los Estados Unidos Americanos". " Viva Mexico y sus Gentes que me tratan tan super amable!!" And, my safety is always in the hands of the Lord our Savior. and my health is my responsibility to maintain a healthy body!

I have been to Mexico a lot. And the private pay restrooms are always clean. Sometimes old but since they are pay for play they are always kept clean. And there are plenty of them everywhere. And they are cheap. like 5 pesos. You always see a lady cleaning and maintaining them. The ones in the USA are sometimes far dirtier. Have you traveled in the US and been to gas stations or rest stop restrooms?

I'm mexican living in Europe for the last 15 years and I'm considering move back with my family, I can survive, although every time I go I suffer because I got used to the many good things in Europe. Kindness, weather, food, family values... I'm ready for it, I hope my kids see it everyday.

I am aware that the country is once again going through an economic crisis with high inflation. I do know that on the HDI Argentina is ranked 0.842 while Mexico is ranked 0.758.

Unfortunately that is not entirely true. Argentina is going through a tough stage lately, and for countries like Uruguay and Chile, they are still in the same situation as every Latin American country. Maybe to a lower degree, but it is still very present. Latin America has its spectrum but still has the same problems. At least we’re very far away now from being like African nations (no disrespect to their beautiful countries) but we still have some way to go.

It's all in what we make it. My first time in my current city was in 1989. I moved here permanently, just up the road from you, in 2009. Things get rougher as you go. The peso got stronger overnight, going from $17.95/$1 on Sunday night to $17.54/$1 by Monday morning. Actually, it's the dollar that is crashing, since January 2021. The peso is also not gaining. It's just that the dollar is crashing faster. For people on Social Security, countries you can live in and still receive Social Security retirement are limited. I served a short stint in China, and there were absolutely zero US expats legally living in China on US Social Security. It's illegal to receive Social Security and live in China. (I know I'm going to get a lot of internet know-it-all replies to that who say they have parents or uncles who live in China on US Social Security. Well... nicely done. You've just alerted the US intelligence community who will investigate, and your family member will lose their Social Security.) I can't stand putting toilet paper in the waste can, and I can't breathe at all if I enter a bathroom where people do that. It's ridiculous. I get literally, physically sick from it for a week at a time, and I've lived in Mexico off and on for 34 years. The USA has its problems like super corrupt police and a divided government, divided into two parties of corruption, collusion, and oppression, but Mexico? The word corruption covers every aspect of every level of government, police and business. We are not leaving Mexico. You just have to be careful where you go, what you do, what you *say,* who you affiliate with (including expats. You dont really know anyone here. It's all a facade.) You can make it here, but you must be prepared to deal with the things that Jordan detailed here in this video on a perpetual basis.

Because most of the businesses are family owned, every street looks completely different than in the US. (Turn right just past the mall go about a half mile and make a left at the Walmart go another half mile and make a right at the Pizza Hut... .You get the drift) You may get lost here and there because of this but that's a good thing.

26. Be ready for people expecting you to tip them. For example, there was a elderly guy who I thought was just my friend and wanted to show me around and tell me about his city. But then, he asked me for a tip. After that, I kept my distance from him. All in all, my experience, Mexico has been one of my least favorite trips. Been living , had different companies and now we just vacation here in PV for almost 45 years. I arrived in 1975 when I was just turning 18. I am now 66. So taking everything into consideration,. Would I move down permanently now?. No. First off when you're young you don't think about getting sick or seriously I'll. But as you get older you start to think differently.. We have some of the best hospitals in Mexico here in Puerto Vallarta. Saying that , good Lord I sure would not want to go to one for anything serious, heart, kidney, lung, cancer.. no way. You don't see kings and queens sending their loved ones to a Mexican hospital..They send them to Yale New Haven , Beth Israel, Sloan Kettering, etc.. no need to say more . .also your medicare insurance doesn't work down here. The only other big deterant is the whole Cartel issue. The Mexican government And the cartels work hand in hand. .There are no checks and balances. Here in Mexico there is absolutely zero justice. I mean I know the court system in the USA is a mess, but in all seriousness, in Mexico the homicide rate of being solved is under 9 percent. So if you want to live in a country where you have very little rights, Drug cartels rule, and sub par medical care then live in Mexico.. now the other hand, why do I stay 4 months out of the year?. Simple ! The Mexican people are very good, hard working , generous people. . The weather is amazing, for winter months none better. We now have a great selection of foods from all over the world. If you want to live simple in a Mexican neighborhood, you can on the cheap. Very cheap...and the neighborhood will embrace you.. learn the language, you don't have to speak perfect, ...they just love when you at least try, they will never ridicule you on your Spanish. Like Jorden said, noise is a big issue, especially as you get older and have a tough time sleeping. Between the music, party's, barking dogs all night etc. It's not easy.. So in closing and my advice to my young American adventurer (Jorden). Very simply, living in Mexico is a love / hate relationship.. when it's more hate than love. Pack your bags.

I can get use to the noise. When I moved down to San Diego to start my college years. I lived in an apartment that was maybe 50 yards away from the highway. It took me a about a week to get use to the traffic noise coming from the highway. Maybe a truck with an empty and bouncing flatbed trailer might wake me up. I had a friend who bought a house that was located close to the railroad tracks. He said it took him and his wife a couple of weeks to get use to the trains rolling through. I can't even imagine doing that but apparently it's possible. He stayed at that house a few years and sold it for a huge profit and then he moved back to his hometown which was only 35 minutes away. I am glad you notice and mention these things, I have noticed them also. Besides a lack of sales on items and specifically clothing... Mexico is tough on anyone who enjoys consuming generally. Interest rates on credit cards are crazy... stores often have poorly marked goods, poor displays, and come from a tradition of cranky return policies. Many daily services, cable water, phone, etc... often have employees who have less than optimal customer service skills... to say the least, haha.

I worked and earned a good deal of money in the US, but was always in debt up to my ears and maxed out credit cards. Mexico has afforded me the ability and opportunity to live debt-free and do with a lot less belongings' and manage to bank some of my modest retirement$ And the bonus, great sleep and sore face from so many smiles. (The "Do not accept" button is hidden in the lower left corner at HSCB) You need a card like a Schwab debit card that doesn't charge ATM, bank transfers or exchange rate fees. Here is a big tip for you and others! When the ATM asks if you accept their bank rate DON'T ACCEPT IT! You will still get your money!! It's a trick question for people like you to give you a lower exchange rate! I just saved you a ton of money! You should always get close to an up to date exchange rate at ATM's. BTW- Another heads up. The BBVA where I live doesn't give you this option. They give you an absurdly low exchange rate and their ATM fees are around $9.00us. You probably got that 29 peso fee at a Citibanamex ATM. They don't play that option and they just give you a good exchange rate You owe me a taco or two or three.....

I remember when Home Depot and Walmart started constructing their buildings in mexico in the 90s. It's good, but what's not so good is that they sell products even more expensive than in the U.S. How is it possible when people don't make enough to afford anything? I know cost of living is cheaper like rents, insurance, etc so it leaves more room to spend more in other areas, but still it's even more expensive than the mom and pop stores, that's why many try to avoid those big box stores and fast food chains.

As a Mexican, they are a lot of problems that in fact are common and very realistic The only thing I’ll add is that many of those problems are just by bad luck and if you live whit your own safety and cleaning most of those problems can be avoid Whit the part of city planing and codes, those where build when none of that exist and most medium and little cities were ranch and Spain-European base on urban center so many of the most modern, fast growing or recent cities are the ones that are applying planing construction codes

I've been living in Mexico in Colima for 8 years. I did buy international health insurance, but this year they wanted almost $10,000 US dollars. I figured that if I didn't use it, it was gone, but if I put that money in the bank it would be available to me if I needed it. So I dropped my insurance and am putting it in the bank instead. Very good video. As a Mexican, I think you have very good points about what may not be right for many foreigners generally in small Mexican towns. Especially coming from the US where the living standards are higher and more consistent even in the smallest towns. The big Mexican cities are excluded of course. Tourism is one of the highest forms of revenue in Mexico so I can't see Mexicans hating on tourists any time soon. Moving to Mexico any other part of the world will take some major adjustments for sure. Not for everyone.

Jordan, I went to watch the Cancun jail video, and it's not there. I suppose those scammers flagged your video. I had an experience with a family that was in the cartels here in my city that stalked me as I went to the ATM and back to my vehicle. They watched inside the ATM as i got my money, and they called ahead to the woman driving their car. She pulled her car up to the back of my vehicle and took photos, to make it look like I had parked up against the front bumper of their car. Thing is, there was a different car behind me when I parked. Then they moved their car back a foot or two and they used their crooked transito and police officers to try to make me pay $2000 for damage *that did not exist,* or *GO TO JAIL.* Of course, the cop and the transito officer were in on it, and would receive a portion of the beer money the Vinegas family was trying to extort from me. I stood firm, and no matter how much they tried to scare me, they were doing was pissing me off. The cop kept telling me that they were going to tow my van if I didnt pay. I kept reminding him that the law states that if we dont come to an agreement, *BOTH VEHICLES MUST BE TOWED TO IMPOUND,* not just mine. I took video of the whole thing. Thats what saved me, and it's what I turned in to Ministerio Publico. The transito officer, last name Lara, and the cop, last name Moreno, finally let me go as I began demanding the names of my accusers so I could start legal action against them. I posted the video but made it private (unlisted). I shared it with my wife and her family. My wife's brother said he knew the one guy, that he owned a factory that sometimes bought products from my brother-in-law's factory. My cuñado went to talk to that guy, who said, "i felt bad for that guy for what THEY were trying to do to him. I wasnt involved" When, it was him at the Banorte ATMs standing beside me counting my money so they knew how much they would be able to extort from me, and it was him who called ahead to tell them to set up the extortion racket however they could. That car that was behind me moved out, and that car the scammers were driving that day pulled up into the spot behind me. A few weeks before that, i was sitting on the street while my wife was inside the supermarket. I hsd slightly tinted windows and my visors were down so outsiders could not see me sitting in thevdriver seat. A motorcycle went by, the rider came back and parkerked his little bike right up against the front of my vehicle, and walked across the street to sit on a bench and wait for me to come out of the store, start up my vehicle and hit his bike so he could extort me. Thing is, I was in my vehicle and watched it happen. I started recording, and got out. I showed him sitting across the street, showed his bike up tight against the front of my vehicle, and watched ss he got up very quickly, jumped on his bike with no license plate, and he took off. I also turned that in to Ministerio Publico. It was also the last time motorcyclists tried to pull that scam on me, When I park now, I take video of everything that is in front of or behind me. When I leave, the same. Everyone in town has seen me do that. I had a front dashcam during both incidents and got those videos. Since the cartel scam incident i installed a rear camera. Cover your ass.

I find it a great invention to through the toilet paper into the trashcan!! After living 1 year in Mexico I now am so used to through it into the trashcan that I can't stop doing it in Kanada, lol. I believe it is a good thing to protect environment. Great video!!! And soooo true, lol ! I don't want certain people to come to live there. Its important to chase them out, lol! ... Otherwise ... they will change Mexico into another US state.

My issues: #1 - Can't consume the water, not even in the shower. And since water SPLASHES, you have to wear a face guard. #2 - No buttermilk biscuits in Mexico. #3 - They don't have a CLUE how to make pancakes. #4 - Good luck finding your favorites pies (sweet potato, pecan, etc.).
