Both of the students are pros. Ryan is principal trumpet in the Indianapolis Symphony and Stuart is principal in the Atlanta Symphony.

He's Ryan Beach, Indianapolis Symphony, former Northwestern University, winner of the 2011 ITG Orchestral Excerpts and (I think) Solo competition winner... (2011 ITG was the summer after his sophomore year).

The Members of a class are quite good and I was moved. They can be orchestra's member immediately as a Principal trumpet in Japan. Because the performance level of the trumpet is very low in Japan.

Rolfs does the whole section from 11:38 to 12:10 in one breath. Wright takes 3 breaths!

Those two Ryan and Stuart are sometimes brighter and punchier sounding than the teachers!

Blue shirt just isn't getting it. He's playing like he's inferior to the higher voice.

No surprises. Structure and airstream control. I just can't get behind the advice given here. Reference Bud Herseth to understand what I'm talking about. Bud didn't talk only to immediately pickup a horn and crack a note.

@@magmahawk583 If one is to teach he or she is not to play or self reference. It doesn't serve the student in any beneficial way. If a teacher plays their instrument during a lesson with a student it tells me they do not have the ability or intelligence to articulate the lesson verbally. This video is evidence of that. This lesson became nothing more than a rehearsal for the old guys.

@@andrewwhitfield5480 how do you know bud never cracked a note after talking? He’s not perfect, nobody is, and Tom and Ben showed in these videos that they’re excellent teachers.

@@magmahawk583 I don't know if Bud ever cracked a note. If you like the video that's all that really matters to you, right? I was brought up and taught by the generation before these guys. One of the most simple lessons taught to me was that a teacher cannot play the instrument for the student just like I cannot go to the bathroom for you so it's rather important to verbally express and provide instructions in a lesson for the benefit of the student. I will not drop my standards because someone else has.
