I DOnt like the back step. Always taught and there is no need for it. As soon as students learn it, they are discouraged to not use it! It is dangerous because too many people cannot get out of the habit of doing it in the social milonga! It is fine when the leader can see if there is nobody behind them ie when they progress through their dance and are facing the outside wall. It should be made perfectly from the outset its danger.

Though the line of dance should allow the couple in front the space to make one step backward, on a crowded floor this is not always the reality.

Can be very small, like just changing weight... But this combination is mainly for learning, I think... Like alphabet, we repeat it in school a lot, but not so much later...

I think it depends on the milonga. We dance at a ballroom with a bigger floor, and back steps are always part of our movements.
