@connork71Күн бұрын
The allays could work, but you'd also be incorporating more Redstone into the space and need more entities to be dedicated for each specific item. Allays also could potentially fly into the kitchen, whereas with foxes, you may be able to prevent them from accessing areas with the old carpet over a pit trick.
@connork71Күн бұрын
The pathing system may be as simple as carpet or moss over a pit to block their pathfinding back into the kitchen. For item removal, foxes should eat food items after a set time, so that's a non-issue for disposal. Non-consumable ingredients will be dropped in favor of food, but if players focus on using that retrieval mechanic, then the players are going to need to hunt down the fox that stole from them and lose a food item that they also potentially needed (resulting in a net loss). At that point, they already wasted more time than what would have been spent retrieving another of that item from it's original location.

"Items may only be removed from the crafter by crafting." That is a simple rule, which has the natural side effect of making it so that you only ever put item in the crafter when you are working towards crafting, but doesn't have the time component and so doesn't have the open-to-interpretation problem.

What Pearl and Etho i think have not yet realized and what could save a ton of time is, that at the booking station, you dont have to wait every time until the item comes before you press the button again. Especially Etho seemed to do that a lot. You can just spamclick the button and only the first item will have a delay, the rest will come one after another (Tango did that). You could really stack up on dog treats day 1 really quickly that way. Get 20 or so dog treats and you are set for some time.

@donotpressw2 күн бұрын
The point made by Pearl and Etho in the end about having to stack bonemeal and dog treats are valid, but the same can be said for quite some non-farm items, like cookies, sugar, beetroots, gold nuggets etc. That’s part of the challenge: are you storing an item on a valuable itemframe shell, holding a stack of items in your hotbar, risking it all by dropping some on the ground to quickswap while farming or crafting stuff. I liked chat’s idea for the mud bricks on the farm because it introduces no new mechanics and it doesn’t dictate a play style. It also makes the early game a bit more challenging and hectic and the late game doesn’t really suffer because you should have plenty of item frames by then. Also, there are multiple places with item slots (barrels in the farm, crafter) and the general rule don’t use any GUI-inventory slots other than the ones in your hotbar to store stuff is REAL simple. Lastly: I think devs shouldn’t adjust their game to 100% bullet proof speedrunners, and Tango shouldn’t adjust his too much just for the two or three really, really good players. Some stuff gets abused and then patched, but too much ‘well, hypothetically this could lead to X which is overpowered’ discussions will just end up in a lot of rules, hacky solutions, hall monitoring by chat and fixes for problems that might not be actual problems. Let the top tier gamers prove they can abuse something before patching the exploit I’d say, and keep the rules simple and mostly naturally embedded in the game (so in stead of ‘no dropping items’, there’s rats that will enforce)
@aka_Lazer2 күн бұрын
what are you talking about, nothing hes fixed has been to bullet proof the game from speed running. the F is speed running in HH anyway? And the clarification of the rules wasn't for the hermits, it was to hopefully prevent certain types of people in their chats and comments from being annoying.
@justrecentlyi54442 күн бұрын
Regarding your last point, Tango has made this game primarily as a social game for his friends, as well as a good source of content for them. So he has to manage demand to play the game as well, and a ludicrous high score that's only possible by abusing certain mechanics could be a definite turn-off to some Hermits. This game is inherently less competitive/more social than Decked Out, so it's not as important, but I'm sure it's a factor Tango is considering. The social aspect should really help mitigate those issues, for example I really hope to see Keralis and xB play this together at some point, although IDK that they will be a huge threat for high scores. That said, higher-scoring games do take longer, which could cause issues with throughput, unless Tango finds a way to balance a 3-player mode.
@donotpressw2 күн бұрын
@@justrecentlyi5444yeah, that’s a fair point.
@knack2baybeeКүн бұрын
The problem with waiting for players to prove something can be abused, rather than fixing it early based on speculation, is that then you end up with high scores based on an exploit that no one else is going to be able to match. This is what's already happened with Pearl's phone-spam run; the issue's been fixed, but now Tango has to decide whether to let the high score stand or throw their run out completely.

Dunno if this is helpful but I got a couple ideas for all the rules you were discussing: -Rule for items on the farm: Everything used and produced on the farm can also be stored there. This includes buckets and bottles since both can be used and don't give a significant advantage. -Putting something in the crafter means you want to craft something soon. If you want to automate it, detect items in it and start a 30sec timer. If no crafting has started by then cause a flood. -When someone dies make them respawn by the chests. They will be out for the rest of that round and can be let back in by their teammate at the end of the day. The person who died has to lock back up before entering the restaurant and starting a new day. If there are any flaws please tell me.
@heatherreadsreddit8579Күн бұрын
I prefer for the teammate to be able to rejoin if they die. If they can’t, then it’s a high percentage of failure. It’s still a time penalty if they die, because they have to return and usually finish what they were doing.

@@heatherreadsreddit8579 Also a very good point. I think respawning, locking back up and then your teammate can let you back in during the round would be really good aswell since it costs both of you time as a penalty but you are not out of the game right away.

Hey Tango! A possible solution to the death consequence that's not as punishing could be some sort of re-entry chamber, in which locks are dispensed into the player's inventory and they are stuck for x amount of time delay before they're let into the restaurant. This would solve both the problem of people going back in without locks and provide a softer, not game-ending (but still severe) consequence to dying.

Crafter rule: "If you put anything in the crafter, it can not be removed other than by crafting." This removes the possibility of using it for storage.
@justrecentlyi5444Күн бұрын
Regarding the discussion around 3:26:00 about re-locking after dying, could you set up their spawn room so that there's a container with the correct number of locks, and only if they've emptied the locks would the door open? I think the biggest challenge would be accounting for the slot upgrades, which might not even be possible I guess. If it's infeasible, you could just make it a gameplay-enforced rule where you lose your unlock slots upgrade if you die during a run. In that scenario, say Etho is playing with Jevin. They get the slot upgrade so they're rocking 3 slots. However, Etho dies in the freezer. When he respawns, Etho goes back to only having 2 unlocked slots. Although you could also just make it work on the honor system as well with stacking one of the locks in the player's inventory so it doesn't matter too much. TL;DR: I think a respawn room that forces players to pick up the appropriate number of locks before re-entering the game would be enough reminder that in practice, any player who dies in the game would re-lock before resuming.

For the automatic crafter, what about a two button redesign? Have a glass block door in front of the crafter which opens when button 1 is pressed. Button 2 then can activate the crafter as normal in order to craft items. For extra cheekiness, have disposed items filter back into the rat system.

I'm not sure how much you read these comments. But I have to strongly disagree with Etho re: dying during a run. I would argue that if you die, you can go back in at the beginning of the next day. This isn't a survival horror game. It's a tense cooking strategy game. If you're worried about people dying to reset food, not being able to come in til the next day negates any benefits that dying would give you. If you're worried about people coming back in without relocking, they're more likely to remember if they have to wait out the day without the stress of trying to get back in and keep the run going. It's fairly common in multiplayer games for death to only temporarily disadvantage the run because the point is for you to play the game with your friends, not sit there and watch them play by themselves because of bad luck.
@justrecentlyi544423 сағат бұрын
@@KhanuuG I agree that dying shouldn't invalidate a run, I don't think that mortal peril should be a game-ending threat. I think his point about using death to reset hearts and saturation could easily be abused, and that should be accounted for. One idea I had for that was for the path back in after respawning during a round should be threatening (a few wither roses for example) which guarantees that players go back in with a low saturation and/or down some hearts so that you're unlikely to benefit from dying intentionally.

you could make it so there's a respawn button that's available to the other player to press to respawn there team mate back in for the cost of say 4 game points. The the door will reopen. But make it so they can only respawn them back in at the end of the day.

3:24:21 i think the dying part and not being able to play is not a good idea, imo. although it has some sort of unbalancing for the game, it will cost more than you thought it will be (e.g. they need someone to push the button for the freezer, it'll cost them to lose the game just because they don't have a partner to let them out). if picking up locks is the issue i think it's better to force them to get the appropriate number of locks in a chest or barrel so they can enter the game again.

So me and the girlfriend were putting together dinner, and I'm just unconsciously humming and she's like... marcus what is that humming.....it was the hungry hermits music. That tune lives in my brain, well done whoever did the music

I really think you should move the high scores over to the side and call them BETA or something...and open the score board up for the game with the changes you made.

i hope when the hermits are required to stand on the phone to listen to it, it will play a random voice of a hermit ordering their real life favorite food

Idea for emergency melons/ pumpkins, use the old system that you had for the trash pots. (that you have to keep a button pressed for some time to get an item). Alternatively have a pressure plate that you have to stand on for 10-15 seconds to get one, that way it is so slow that it shouldn't be the default option and getting other foods for personal consumption would be faster. Just a minor recommendation, make the blocks that surround the water for the crops glass blocks, to avoid any accidents. If two customers are served in such a way that the piston that sets the timer for checking for the correct food is only pressed once, would that mean that players could get a free pass for an incorrect food as the correct food hopper gets two items but only one signal to drain it is sent? This is not game breaking as it is a benefit to the player and quite obscure. Similarly, if the two droppers that were installed in the correct food system get a signal when one item is already in the second one would not have two items as both would fire for a net 0 exchange. The could lead to the same bug? I love that the hermits managed to find so many different ways to die. Just watching the different pairings and how they play is so great. I know that this would be technically difficult, but if hermits struggle to get to day 8 after a lot of tries, introducing some way to get two upgrades in a day (possibly for some other penalty or long task during the day? (spend points?)) could help as for the later days you almost need a lot of the upgrades to survive but have no way of getting enough of them in time for when you need them. (more bonemeal for beetroot soup, faster crafting for cake and honey, item frames for storage, inventory slot and such). I think that it is an interesting idea but it would require quite a few changes to the current system. I also love the game discussion that you had at the end with Etho and Pearl, just hearing the thoughts and considerations are very interesting to listen to.

For the death issue, a "easy" solution could be that the teamate would have to pay a certain amount of food to let someone rejoin the game. It creates a new event, it creates a buffer timer for people to remember relocking and prevents people dying for reseting hunger.

i had an idea about the water hazard: what about theres a chance, like 25%, of water hazard comes with a pufferfish. you can still take the 75% chance when it is desperate, but still pulling pufferfish is too much of a risk and annoyance to ignore. the issue is, picking it up with water bucket then put it in a bin, seems too much. so im still not sure

I think an interesting upgrade could be to automatically be dispensed some high level ingredients once in a while. Good for stockpiling ingredients over time for free, no immediate impact. Gives a push and pull reason to secure or skip it

It would be cool to have a berry bush in the upgrade room for the guys to have food to regen health between rounds. It can’t be used in any recipe plus it’s a throw back to decked out :)

For the farm sign: No cooked, crafted or freezer items may be dropped on the farm floor. Personally, though, I think anything being dropped on the farm floor is fine, as long as it’s the same for everyone. It’s simpler, more fun, and allows for the development of interesting strats. A simple rule for the crafter could be that players are only allowed to place items in the crafter, never to remove them from it.

For the dying thing: making it so that the teammate has to come get you seems fine an "easy" to implement. Just make the bed a box only able to open with a button from the outside (like the freezer)

I ve a got a very interesting idea. When it's flooding a water by a chance can break a piece of redstone which opens iron doors to customers (replace doors with irone one and a new bunker/underground for electronics/redstone). And hermits need to fix the redstone to open doors again.

1:41:41 Tango for the melons if you give the stem all for points to grow it might help as they try to grow to the block space so if it is occupied by another stem then that chance falls and it restarts it cycle. Might help avoid adding another system.

Hi, I don't post much, but when I do, everyone can ignore. In case it does not get ignored. I thought about a potential solution for the items being dropped in the farm. 1st Suggestion(easy):Have stationary minecarts that pick items up in some specific blocks, so players have to identify where it is safe to drop items, and then they have to choose the items that go on specific safe blocks. In the first rounds this should not become punishing for players, but later when they have to move fast, they will probably start to make mistakes and drop the wrong items in the wrong places. At least that is how I saw from the VODs, players randomly chuck items, adding this function will require of them some planning and reactions in the farm part. 2nd Suggestion(hard): Split the land into parts(for example 4x4 blocks) that have underneath them minecarts that pick items up at random times, instead of rats, call it moles, because it is a farm. At first it is slow, but each time it picks them up, it increases the chance of minecarts being released in random parts of the farm. This does not stop players dropping the items, but makes them think about if they want to risk dropping the items now, or later. Dog(or any station that has functionality) - add stationary minecarts that players need to actively avoid when dropping items, just avoid enough to allow players get the bonemeal from the dog. Sorry for the wall of text. I enjoy the VODs.
