Thank you very much for sharing this very clearly. I have been helping tuning a PID for a boiler level control ( Single Element ) Than I realised that we not only making up the level volume at the Drum , we also have to consider the steam rate. A 3 element could have been better suit but the client only want to put back the single element controllers. We have to do a bit of trial and error tuning as the boiler water demand subjected to 1. Steam rate 2. Drum level difference 3. Inconsistent Carryover along steam stream due to Load Demand 4. Possible frequent blowdown due to TDS control...

Really good explanations focused on process control industry and how to practically work through tuning. Many of the you tube videos on tuning are around robotics which have very different rules of thumb and methods and tend to rely on calculus which can be hard to apply to a live process while sitting in a control room with an impatient plant or project manager breathing down your neck. E.G it would be too hard to calculate every physical function ahead of time in a plant that has 100s of loops. Maybe I'm also bit biased as I'm used to 800xa, so your control form/terminology and units (Ti, Td etc) matches, making this easier to understand.

quick question. what if i want to include a derivative part in my controller? how do i calculate for that? im a third year student in a control systems program.

Great presentation! One question from the slow kid in the class. In your Max deviation calculation, MD= Kp*Ti*DeltaL/2e, please define the "e" term. I don't see it defined.
