Hi Eric sorry to hear about your problems, you might want to try some Seachem Phosguard to fight the silicates and phosphates it works pretty quickly and is a lot cleaner than the gfo. I would also check that your nutrients are in ratio as that can also lead to problems, hope you can get it sorted and stay positive, happy reefing and have a good weekend

Hey Jim! Thanks for watching! I have never used Seachem Phosguard before. I think I will give it a try as I am already seeing he brown powder sludge in the sump. Thank you for the suggestion! I need to take some measurements this weekend to see where everything is. My nitrates today were 23ppm which is getting better. I need to check the phosphates though.

I say your sand bed is telling you it’s the source of nitrates mate :) I went bare bottom and dosed np bacto balance and all for reef, all weird algae/ diatoms gone
