Lyrics: I can really safely say I'm glad you're still alive One thing they can't take away Is your will to survive I don't, I won't believe it I don't, I won't believe it They say a cure can not be found This man is better off dead They wanna turn your head around Turn your head around Turn your head around Turn your head around, yeah How can they leave you lying there Hiding from the light? They don't know and they couldn't care They'll be dead by tonight I don't, I won't believe it I don't, I won't believe it They say a cure can not be found This man is better off dead, yeah Someone's made a big mistake Smiling through the tears Just how long will this thing take? Now it all becomes clear I don't, I won't believe it I don't, I won't believe it They say a cure can not be found This man is better off dead They wanna turn your head around Turn your head around Turn your head around Turn your head around Turn your head around Turn your head around Turn your head around Turn your head around, yeah Turn, turn Turn your head around Turn, turn Turn your head around, yeah Turn, turn Turn your head around Turn, turn Turn your head around, yeah Turn, turn Turn your head around Turn, turn

This song and the entire 'Filth Hounds Of Hades' album are heavy metal classics. This album still remain one of my favourites today. I've had 3 copies of the LP and 2 copies of the CD over the years because I played 'em so fuckin' much. I liked Algy in The Damned but forming Tank and having Eddie Clarke produce the album was brilliant.

These guys are just as important to mention in the invention of thrash metal as any other touted name. Metallica and Megadeth will talk about Diamondhead and Motorhead until the cows come home, but when I hear this song, there's no question that Tank is one of those bands Dave Mustaine always failed to mention as one of his biggest influences, I almost wonder if even he realizes how much he took from this band for Killing is My Business and Business is Good. That riff at around 1:30 leading into the solo is textbook early Megadeth! Chromatic, wily, extreme and damn near Appalachian in small sections. Tank is a band I regret not knowing about during my teenage years when I was listening to all the relevant namesakes that survived over they decades. Filth Hounds of Hades would've fit so well in my catalog alongside Kill 'em All, Killing is my Business, Executioner's Song, Overkill/Bomber, and Heavy Metal Maniac!
@ecatalan98
@ecatalan98 4 жыл бұрын
Indeed! Tank, for some reason, got lost in the shuffle of the NWOBHM. I was surprised they weren't included on the NWOBHM compilation Lars did in 1990 (copyright issues I presume). While Megadeth has rarely mentioned them ever in their interviews, Metallica at least wears their T shirts and they were actually friends with Algy and company. I always view Tank as a slightly more "technical" version of Motorhead. They also had that "punk" thing going on (Algy actually playing on The Damned's classic "Machine Gun Etiquette"). Bad management, bad labels, changing band members, etc. all that affected immensely Tank's impact in the music world. They were pivotal in shaping what became thrash metal. It's a shame very few bands given them their due respect (Sodom being the one that comes to mind).
@chadgray5872

@@ecatalan98 I'm so glad I came across them recently. Thank you for uploading. What I can't understand is how very few bands beyond Sodom even mention these guys but Diamond Head is the band everyone mentions from the nwobhm movement. Those guys had one good album and had very little in the way of innovative ideas after their debut. Borrowed Time had a fascinating early take on power metal on the opening track "heat of the night", but I couldn't stomach the sell out pandering on that album and Canterbury. I've been exploring the depths of this era and so far I have to say I find Tank and Raven to be the most impressive acts. I have a weird soft spot for Witchfynde too. 😅😅
@ecatalan98
@ecatalan98 4 жыл бұрын
@@chadgray5872 Yes! Diamond Head is cool, but I much prefer Tank or Raven over them. Tank simply got lost in the shuffle. When thrash took off, they were more in the "traditional" metal vein, but were WAY heavier than all those hair bands. They stayed true to their raw metal style and did not sell out like Saxon did in the mid 80s, trying desperately to break into the American market. I love Saxon (another NWOBHM great band), but after "Power And The Glory", they dove deep into commercial stuff. Thank god they got out of that and returned to their heavier style. Angel Witch were also very good. Girlschool too! Their early stuff is very similar to Tank and Motorhead!
@chadgray5872
@chadgray5872 4 жыл бұрын
@@ecatalan98 Believe it or not, I could never get into Saxon. I tried every album and found they put out the same record over and over again, don't like Biff's vocals that much either. Angel Witch, just like Diamond Head lost their popularity after their first album, but I thought Frontal Assault and Screamin n Bleedin were pretty good! Girlschool got surprisingly better on their sophomore release Hit and Run! Such an amazing era. I have some obscure gems for you, Saracen, Limelight and Holocaust!

Funny thing though at some point in my early metal years I've been listening to all those big names AND Tank. But only Tank really stuck with me apart from a few exceptions. Now when I turn on Tank my heart still jumps while I roll my eyes at most Megadeth songs whenever they come on. I know it's personal preference but I LOVE Tank, the real deal with Algy.

People place to much emphasis on Tank being like Motorhead. They are similar in some ways but also very different and unique. It's the delivery more than anything that resembles Motorhead, a lot of the other stuff is definitely themselves. Such a great band! Hail Tank!

A couple bands where the sound just sounds like classic pool skating...this and Minor Threats discography exemplify that youthful feeling down to a T. Always have been more of a punk adherent, but some of this shit is brilliant and manages to cut through some of that cliche metal vibes that became pervasive. That attitude presented here is apparent in a number of other genres, and they're all great because of it.

Sadly, Algy Ward's former band mates tried to steal the Tank name form him after he no longer could tour due to illness, and they partially succeeded despite Algy owning the rights to the Tank name and logo. Some guy tried telling me one time that it's a free world and no one owns the name Tank, and I told him to remember that when someone tries to steal Metallica's name. As usual with people of low intelligence, the point went way over his head, and all I got was a curse-laden reply accusing me of running down Metallica. I love how these little jerks act over music in a world where we have mush more pressing matters..

this band was really the English predecessor of Sodom in many aspects: they were three, the singer was also the bassist, they worshipped Motörhead, they played a straight-forward and raw kind speed metal, and I also find that Thomas Such used to look like Algy Ward in his early days, the same haircut, the same attitude! of course Sodom moved to a more thrash-oriented style after Persecution Mania, but early Sodom (In the Sign of Evil era) really had a strong Tank flavour! what I said is also true for Venom, another NWOBHM power trio, which also shared the childish Satanist image with Sodom
