I'm starting to think I'm the only one who still recalls the Baretta version, chambered in .308 and fed by an M-14/M1A1 style box magazine. When those puppies hit the U.S. market they sold like hot cakes. Sadly, for me at least, the price tag for the Barettas was way beyond my income at the time but I still wish I could have afforded one back then.

Yet another comment: If it tells you anything, the PDWs of U.S. Tankers into the 1980s were 1911A1s and M3A1 submachineguns. I know that because I was one of those Tankers.

For a 308 rifle to work properly, you need to open up the gas port hole in the barrel. A worn gas cylinder and op rod will also cause problems.

The ejection pattern changes as you keep shooting...it starts off nice and strong but by the end of the first clip its barely lobbing 'em out???

That action Is designed for a longer cartridge. That's probably the problem.

It's seems like the reverse of the issue Americans had during WW2 when we made some MG42 prototypes for the .30-06 round. Tons of issues. Just shows you can have a great cartridge and a great gun and they may not be compatible.

Yes. Dragging in the gas tube. That put strain on the bolt locking cams and the raceways.

@bradh74, Yes they did, until 1968. United States Armory and Arsenal, Springfield, Mass. "Springfield Armory" adopted the name for their company when it closed.

@@davidcoudriet8439 If that's true they sold Americans arms unless they were all surplus. That would be the first time I heard of that but Springfield Armory is anti 2A anyway so nobody is going to give them money that's American anyway.

It closed and a private group got the name. A lot of tooling and stock. The first M-1A's were built on M-14 actions complete with with the cutout for a selector.
